well enjoy it or not just be just

observe it it's not a case of like or

dislike it's just watching it now when

you're sitting in meditation and your

knees starts to hurt this is an

experience that mind likes to run away

from doesn't like this kind of

experience so when you let go that tight

mental fist around it and allow the

experience to be without trying to

control it it turns from pain into

sensation and when it's sensation you

can experience the sensation without a

mind that wobbles without a mine is

trying to control now I have the silver

tooth here when I was in Burma a dentist

decided he was going to do me a favor

and clean my teeth and he broke it and

then he said okay we have to do a root

canal and I said fine with the root

canal but you're not going to stick any

needles in me you want to do this I

don't want any painkiller the reason I

said that is they don't clean their

their equipment very well and I'm not

real wild about getting AIDS so he

started drilling now there was some real

intense sensation and my whole body

would not up and I'd see I was holding

on tight and then you start relaxing and

relax and all the way through relaxing

my mind focusing on loving kindness to

the person causing me the pain

and he went on for about 15 minutes 20

minutes something like that there was

intense sensation and it was okay for

that sensation to be there because

that's the truth I was experiencing the

experience without any resistance

without any want to control only opening

and relaxing oh it doesn't it didn't

hurt

there was sound there was sensation and

that was fine they they had they don't

have the modern stuff there they didn't

have one of these high speed drills they

had the old kind that had the pulling

Zhan it like that as soon as he stopped

drilling my mind was very uplifting and

happy not happy because a sensation

stopped just happy and in the present

moment the doctor air the dentist was

completely amazed he didn't think

anybody could do that sort of thing but

if you don't have resistance to your

experience then it's just experienced

that's all and you're observing there's

no like there's no dislike

without any like in this knife there's

no subtle I like where I don't like

there's no craving and because there's

no craving there's no clinging that

means all the thoughts about the reasons

you don't like this when you're when it

gets that far it turns into pain and you

start thinking about all the reasons you

don't like this situation when I was

done my mind was very light very clear

and that clarity lasted for two days

just from that one experience

and that can happen for you anytime

you're sitting and you start allowing

instead of trying to control when you

start experiencing the experience and

seeing it for what it is and the wat for

mine to tighten around it and let go and

relax more that's how you change your

level of consciousness now when you do

this what happens is these low states of

consciousness if they start to come at

some other time in your life you'll be

able to recognize them more quickly

because your mind is at this level and

all of a sudden it gets pulled down you

say we'll wait a minute let's let go of

that one that hurts that is the

cessation of suffering

that's the third noble truth
