Context: Throughout this transcript, Bhante Vimalaramsi is the speaker unless otherwise indicated.
thus have i heard on one occasion the
blessed one was living at sawati in
jettas grove annath and pindika's park
is wise
anytime you read the word wise or wisdom
in the suttas it is referring to
so this this part of the suit is talking
about sorry
and how he understood the links of
dependent origination
puta has joyous wisdom
sorry
has quick wisdom
sorry puta has keen
gained insight into states one by one as
they occurred
on
insights into states one by one as they
occurred was this
uh
here quite secluded from sensual
pleasures
secluded from unwholesome states
sorry
entered upon and abided in the first
drama
sorry
uh
means a level of understanding
too often when many people hear the word
jhana to them it translates as
one pointed concentration
uh
okay
sorry puta entered upon and abided in
the first drama which is accompanied by
thinking and examining thought
with joy and happiness born of seclusion
the thinking the examining thought the
joy the happiness the unification of
mind
uh
the contact feeling perception formation
and mind
okay now these
are called the five aggregates
uh
the five aggregates and the four
foundations of mindfulness are exactly
the same thing
if you look in your booklet you can see
on page 14 how they
all right so every time you see this
part of this phrase it's talking about
the four foundations of mindfulness
while you are in a
jhana
uh
and this also shows you that there's
more than one kind of jhana that's being
you remember last night i was talking
about how you practice one pointed
concentration absorption concentration
and you always bring your attention back
with the craving
when you're practicing this kind of
concentration it does not lead to nibana
uh
but when you're practicing with the six
hours
and you relax and smile and come back to
your object to meditation
that is the direct path to nibana
so when you're practicing the six r's
you are also practicing the four
foundations of mindfulness
okay
the
enthusiasm decision energy mindfulness
equanimity
and attention
okay i didn't know you were done
these states were defined by him one by
one as they occurred
he abided unattracted unrepelled
independent detached free dissociated
with a mind rid of barriers
and with it a cultivation of that
attainment he confirmed that there is
now this is where
you start to realize the importance of
the hindrances
they are your teacher they are your best
friend because they help you
to strengthen your mindfulness
you will have a hindrance
you'll sit in the first jhana for a
period of time your mindfulness gets
weak all of a sudden the hindrance
arises
that is your friend
talking about
every time you let go you use the six
r's you let go of the hindrance come
back to your object of meditation
your mindfulness gets a little bit
stronger
to get to the first jhana you had to let
go of a hindrance
and you understand how that works
as you get deeper into your practice
you start seeing more closely how
okay again monks
with the stilling of thinking and
examining thought
which has self-confidence
with joy and happiness born of
collectedness
your confidence
in the meditation starts to get stronger
you start to feel like you're
understanding more clearly
now if you try to
in your mind say
may my friend be happy and bring that
feeling to your heart you start to get
tightness in your head
um reason that tightness arises is
because you don't need to verbalize the
wish anymore
of noble silence
because you don't mentally verbalize
the wish anymore
now you have to understand that when you
attain a jhana it helps your
understanding
in your daily life
too
you have confidence
you're able to see hindrances more
easily
and this is with your daily life
this is how this practice
helps to develop your personality
some people can get angry and they stay
angry for
two or three weeks
but when you start developing your mind
through the six hours
you see that you are causing your
foreign
the self-confidence the joy the
happiness and unification of mind
the contact feeling perception formation
and mind
chip
again this is the four foundations while
you are in the jana
the enthusiasm decision energy
mindfulness equanimity
and attention
these states were defined by him one by
one as they occurred
known to him those states arose
he understood there's still more to do
and with the cultivation of that
attainment he confirmed that there is
quesanchiri
and mindful and fully aware
he entered upon and abided in the third
jhana
on account of which noble ones announce
he has a pleasant abiding who has
equanimity and is mindful
when you get to the third jhana you no
longer have joy arise
your mind has very strong balance in it
well you still can hear sounds
if someone comes up and touches you you
will feel that
uh
because your equanimity is starting
because
you will be sitting in meditation and
you start to lose the feeling
in your body
as you lose feel as you
lose feeling in your body
your mind is becoming more pure
you're wondering
so you'll be sitting and you don't feel
so you're losing tension in your mind
and you lose tension in your body
as you go deeper in this channel
more places in your body will start to
disappear
in
eventually
even the feeling in the heart
disappears
uh
okay
and the states in the third drama the
equanimity
the happiness
the mindfulness
the full awareness
and unification of mind
children
um
the contact feeling perception formation
and mind
again the four foundations of
mindfulness while you're in the third
genre
the
enthusiasm decision energy mindfulness
equanimity and attention
these states were defined by him one by
one as they occurred
known to him those states arose
known
and with the cultivation of that
attainment he confirmed that there's
still more to do
with
again monks
with the abandoning of pleasure and pain
with the previous disappearance of joy
and grief
which has neither pain nor pleasure and
purity of mindfulness
due to equanimity
your mind has exceptional balance
in it
you
become what the buddha called an
advanced meditator
um
your mindfulness is so your your balance
of mind is so strong
that you hear a sound and it doesn't
make your mind move at all it just goes
through you
from here
up to the top of your head
some students have come and told me told
me they felt like their head
was sitting on the floor there was
nobody
more
the last part of the eightfold path
is called
right
concentration
the definition of right concentration
is the four
chanas
the other four jhanas are called well
the the other four states
are called
arupa
these are called the immaterial genres
there are some people
in other words if a mosquito comes and
lands on you you still feel it
but your mind doesn't shake
um
and that does not make your mind
so anybody that has gotten to the point
where their
objective meditation is in their head
has become an advanced meditator
and you will start to start to see more
and more subtle things arise
i'll get into it a little bit
uh after this
and the states in the fourth china
the neither painful nor pleasant feeling
pyongyang
and the unification of mind
the contact feeling perception formation
and mind
chop chok nukem
again you still have the four
foundations of mindfulness
while you are in this state is
the enthusiasm decision energy
mindfulness equanimity and attention
now the
enthusiasm that this talks about
you start to become very enthusiastic
about doing the meditation
here you say
i know
any time you put too much energy into
the meditation you will get a headache
and that is a sign
that you back away from trying so hard
to talk
because now i'm going to talk about very
subtle states
and you have to keep backing away a
little bit more and a little bit more
to allow these things to occur
uh
he understood this
and with the cultivation of that
attainment he confirmed that there is
more to do because
with the complete surmounting of
and i'm sure you don't have this word in
there gross perception
of forms
cross perception right
uh
and i
talked to
the translator about this telling him
that he was
misleading people
by saying it this way
but if there is contact
so that's why i say gross perception
because the big perception
of just feeling a pain arise in your
body or
uh feeling your body at all that that's
gross
but only if there's contact that is
subtle
but
with the disappearance of gross
perception of sensory impact
up to the fourth jhana you have been
practicing loving kindness meditation
um
it's called
infinite space
the feeling of loving kindness naturally
changes
uh
to a feeling of compassion
you have to describe that feeling to me
also what happens is you start to feel
everything
there's only this expansion feeling
that is
what infinite space the what it feels
like
a lot of
mahayana teachers they talk a lot about
infinite compassion
and actually what they're describing is
compassion
while you are in infinite space
in your mind
ah
and the states in the base of infinite
space
the perception of the base of infinite
space
and unification of mind
the contact filling perception
formations and mind chip
so you still have the four foundations
of mindfulness right here
the
enthusiasm decision energy mindfulness
equanimity and
these states were defined by him one by
one as they occurred
known to him those states arose
known they were present
he confirmed that there is still more to
do
again
by completely surmounting the base of
infinite space
aware that consciousness is infinite
sorry
entered
upon and abided in the base of infinite
consciousness
as you go deeper in infinite space
eventually the feeling of compassion
will change to a feeling of joy
last night i was gonna tell you about
five kinds of joy and i only told you
about four
the last kind of joy
is called all prevailing
joy
uh
um
it's like i would take a pitcher of
water and i would pour it in the glass
and keep pouring and it would overflow
and no part of that glass
would not have water touching it
this is the kind of joy
that is in the awakening factors
okay
this does not have the excitement of the
other kinds of joy
this kind of joy is very interesting
because
you can be sitting in meditation
and all of a sudden this joy arises and
your eyes open up
and do you think well that was odd
a lot of buddha images you see that have
the eye half open
the artist is talking about this kind of
joy that the buddha felt
there's not one cell in your body that
does not feel this joy but it's not
excitement
it's just a very happy feeling
this is the kind of joy
that the compassion changes into
virus
when we're talking about infinite
consciousness this is very interesting
that was a hundred thousand arising and
passing away of that sound
arising and passing away of that sound
sound
but now your awareness is so strong
that you will be able to see
individual consciousnesses
arise and pass away very quickly
here
because there's nothing to smell up here
it's not going to happen at the nose so
much
or the tongue
upon us
but you can notice it in the body and
you can notice it in the mind
and it
say you're seeing it with the eye it
looks like a motion picture
going a little bit too slow and you see
the picture and then
there's a blank spot and the picture and
a blank spot and a picture in a blank
spot but it's happening fast
now you are showing yourself
up close and very personally
that
everything is changing
you're seeing each consciousness arise
and pass away arise and pass away arise
and pass away very quickly
after a period of time it becomes
tiresome saying this all the time
how
and you see
very closely that there is no controller
there is no i
making this happen
by direct experience
okay
and the states in the base of infinite
consciousness
the perception of the base of infinite
consciousness and unification of mind
the contact feeling perception formation
the enthusiasm decision energy
mindfulness equanimity and attention
disappeared
and with the cultivation of that
attainment he confirmed that there's
still more to do
praise
by completely surmounting the base of
infinite consciousness
aware that there is nothing
sorry
entered upon and abided in the base of
nothingness
okay this state
is probably
the most interesting state in all of the
meditation
when you get to this state mind is not
looking outside of itself anymore
the whole time you've been doing the
meditation
you're
experimenting with how much energy you
have to put in to stay with your
objective meditation without losing it
now this is like walking on a tight rope
that's made out of
spider web
very thin
if you use too much energy
to stay with your object of meditation
your mind gets restless
if you don't use quite enough energy
your mind gets dull
now when you go from infinite
consciousness to nothingness
the feeling of joy changes to a feeling
of very strong equinimnty
uh
your mind has exceptional balance
there are things that happen while
you're in that state that you have to
tell me about
chris won't tell you
because if i tell you
then you can start imagining it and i
don't want that i want to know what's
your actual experience
so as you continue going deeper in your
meditation you'll get to a place
that
is very interesting
but i won't tell you about it you have
to tell me
when you get to this state you will
notice that your mind is on your object
to meditation
and it will start to move or wobble a
little bit
and then before long
there's a distraction
but as you start to notice that it
wobbles like that you 6r right then and
your mind stays on your object of
meditation
um
there is something that happens before
that movement of mind's attention
when you get to the fourth jhana it
doesn't move very much at all but is
vibrating
as you keep relaxing with the six hours
that vibration becomes less and less and
less
when you get to
this stage of nothingness
it's very fine little tiny movements
that you'll be able to observe
uh
the perception of the base of
nothingness
and unification of mind
the contact feeling perception formation
the
enthusiasm decision energy mindfulness
equanimity and attention
known to him those states arose known
they were present known they disappeared
yeah understood this
and with the cultivation of that
attainment he confirmed that there's
still more to do
by completely surmounting the base of
nothingness
uh
entered upon and abided in the base of
neither perception
nor non-perception
as you're going through nothingness
the vibration becomes very very subtle
and hard to see
as
when you get to the base of neither
perception or non-perception
it's hard to tell whether there's any
vibration
many students come to me and they say is
it possible to be awake and asleep at
the same time
as a child
and my answer is yes that is the state
of neither perception or non-perception
is
you'll be in this state for a short
period of time maybe five minutes or so
it
and is you come out of that state you
remember what happened while you were in
there
you will be able to see colors and
shapes and
different kinds of patterns and things
when you see them you 6r
and then your mind becomes exceptionally
calm
you might be able to sit for an hour
hour and a half two hours without
anything arising
as you get used to this state you will
start to see
very very subtle
links of dependent origination
by this time your six hours should be
automatic
your mind notices
contact
and as soon as it notices six hours and
i relax
and then you might see
mentality materiality arise and six are
that and relax
and then you see
very subtle
consciousness
arise
6r radar
when you let go of the formations there
are no more conditions
um
in other words
that is
you will get into a state that is called
the cessation of perception
feeling and consciousness
you will be in that state for a short
period of time two minutes five minutes
10 minutes like that
when you come out of that state
you will see how the links of dependent
origination arise
and how they cease
and when that last formation disappears
that is what i call the big o wow
when you come out of that state you will
be happy
because
a lot of people are too happy to do that
so i let you go for a little while then
i put you back to work
everything in buddhism has to do with
your understanding
and the way you truly understand is by
seeing it
exactly as it occurs
in english it's called knowledge and
knowledge and vision
that's why when you finally see
exactly how dependent origination works
you understand it
and then there is this huge release
okay
now we're talking about neither
perception nor non-perception
he emerged mindful from that attainment
having done so he observed the states
that had passed ceased and changed
so indeed these states not having been
come into being
having been they vanish
regarding those states he abided
unattracted
he didn't like the state and try to hold
on to it
and with the cultivation of that
attainment he confirmed that there is
course
again monks by completely surmounting
the base of neither perception or
non-perception
sorry
entered upon and abided in the cessation
of perception feeling and consciousness
and his distractions were
you remember at the start of this i said
anytime you hear the word
wise or wisdom in the buddhist
literature
it's talking about the links of
dependent origination
all craving all clinging
vanish
by his seeing exactly how it occurred
he recalled the states that had passed
ceased and changed
having been they
regarding those states he abided
unattracted unrepelled independent
detached free dissociated with a mind
rate of barriers
he understood there is no escape beyond
this
and with the cultivation of that
attainment
he confirmed that there is not
so
remember
to keep using the six r's because you
will use them all the way to the end
and nothing would make me happier than
to see this whole room experience this
is
is it possible
sorry did it in two weeks
right
okay
monk's rightly speaking word to be said
of anyone
he has attained mastery and perfection
in noble virtues
attain mastery and perfection in noble
collectedness
noble wisdom
attain mastery and perfection in noble
deliverance
born
and is kept rolling rightly by sariputta
sariputta is
that is what the blessed one said
the monks were satisfied and delighted
in the blessed ones
that
so i gave you all the keys you need to
get into nibbana
christopher
there's still a few more things i need
to talk about
but this
is definitely gives you an idea of where
you are
on the path
and what you need to do and what your
experiences will be
i have had students tell me
that what i'm saying about this is
exactly right
uh
so does anybody have any questions
now you know why this is my favorite
suitable
anybody
everybody's yeah
do you believe that our capacity is even
better than that
kenya
so you have to come to the next retreat
in swan
foreign
how long did it take doug when he got
there
that was less than 10 days
just let it alone let it alone it was
less than 10 days
yeah and we had we had
two other people that came and they were
there for nine days
very successful
but to be honest
i have to tell you they did a lot of
meditation with me before they did they
came
for that
foreign
you said that you gave us the key to
nibbana is that key
yes absolutely
that is the way
you have to understand even the links of
dependent origination
are
a
distraction
and when you
keep using the 6r and the distraction
gets smaller and smaller and smaller and
finally there is no more
that's when you attain nevada
it is a six hour
and we are talking about very subtle
states of mind where your awareness has
to be exceptionally
m
well in the course of meeting uh
when we leave when we forget about the
key
and forget about six hours what should
we
drown yourself
might as well just commit suicide
don't forget
that's the whole point um
showing you how to carry that with you
when you're walking from here to your
car
before you go to work
i'm showing you how to carry that with
you in many different ways
so that when you get off retreat you can
continue
meditation is not just about sitting
here meditation is all of life
and there will be times that you will
forget and you will get caught and you
will suffer
but the length of time that you suffer
gets to be less and less as you become
more
uh familiar with the six r's and you
start to use them more
and life
really begins to be fun
sometimes it makes my whole day when i
see a little child
that is crying
and i radiate meta to them
so you make other people happy when you
get happy
why do you think i tell you to smile all
the time
it reminds you it makes your mindfulness
sharper
me
um
something
may suffering ones be suffering free and
the fear struck fearless be
may the grieving shed all grief
and may all beings find relief
may all beings share this merit that
we've thus acquired for the acquisition
of all kinds of happiness
may beings inhabiting space and earth
devas and nagas of mighty power
they long ours the buddha's dispensation
you
thus have i heard on one occasion the

to a feeling of compassion
you have to describe that feeling to me
also what happens is you start to feel
everything
there's only this expansion feeling
that is
what infinite space the what it feels
like
a lot of
mahayana teachers they talk a lot about
infinite compassion
and actually what they're describing is
compassion
while you are in infinite space
in your mind
ah
and the states in the base of infinite
space
the perception of the base of infinite
space
and unification of mind
the contact filling perception
formations and mind chip
so you still have the four foundations
of mindfulness right here
the
enthusiasm decision energy mindfulness
equanimity and
these states were defined by him one by
one as they occurred
known to him those states arose
known they were present
he confirmed that there is still more to
do
again
by completely surmounting the base of
infinite space
aware that consciousness is infinite
sorry
entered
upon and abided in the base of infinite
consciousness
as you go deeper in infinite space
eventually the feeling of compassion
will change to a feeling of joy
last night i was gonna tell you about
five kinds of joy and i only told you
about four
the last kind of joy
is called all prevailing
joy
uh
um
it's like i would take a pitcher of
water and i would pour it in the glass
and keep pouring and it would overflow
and no part of that glass
would not have water touching it
this is the kind of joy
that is in the awakening factors
okay
this does not have the excitement of the
other kinds of joy
this kind of joy is very interesting
because
you can be sitting in meditation
and all of a sudden this joy arises and
your eyes open up
and do you think well that was odd
a lot of buddha images you see that have
the eye half open
the artist is talking about this kind of
joy that the buddha felt
there's not one cell in your body that
does not feel this joy but it's not
excitement
it's just a very happy feeling
this is the kind of joy
that the compassion changes into
virus
when we're talking about infinite
consciousness this is very interesting
that was a hundred thousand arising and
passing away of that sound
arising and passing away of that sound
sound
but now your awareness is so strong
that you will be able to see
individual consciousnesses
arise and pass away very quickly
here
because there's nothing to smell up here
it's not going to happen at the nose so
much
or the tongue
upon us
but you can notice it in the body and
you can notice it in the mind
and it
say you're seeing it with the eye it
looks like a motion picture
going a little bit too slow and you see
the picture and then
there's a blank spot and the picture and
a blank spot and a picture in a blank
spot but it's happening fast
now you are showing yourself
up close and very personally
that
everything is changing
you're seeing each consciousness arise
and pass away arise and pass away arise
and pass away very quickly
after a period of time it becomes
tiresome saying this all the time
how
and you see
very closely that there is no controller
there is no i
making this happen
by direct experience
okay
and the states in the base of infinite
consciousness
the perception of the base of infinite
consciousness and unification of mind
the contact feeling perception formation
the enthusiasm decision energy
mindfulness equanimity and attention
disappeared
and with the cultivation of that
attainment he confirmed that there's
still more to do
praise
by completely surmounting the base of
infinite consciousness
aware that there is nothing
sorry
entered upon and abided in the base of
nothingness
okay this state
is probably
the most interesting state in all of the
meditation
when you get to this state mind is not
looking outside of itself anymore
the whole time you've been doing the
meditation
you're
experimenting with how much energy you
have to put in to stay with your
objective meditation without losing it
now this is like walking on a tight rope
that's made out of
spider web
very thin
if you use too much energy
to stay with your object of meditation
your mind gets restless
if you don't use quite enough energy
your mind gets dull
now when you go from infinite
consciousness to nothingness
the feeling of joy changes to a feeling
of very strong equinimnty
uh
your mind has exceptional balance
there are things that happen while
you're in that state that you have to
tell me about
chris won't tell you
because if i tell you
then you can start imagining it and i
don't want that i want to know what's
your actual experience
so as you continue going deeper in your
meditation you'll get to a place
that
is very interesting
but i won't tell you about it you have
to tell me
when you get to this state you will
notice that your mind is on your object
to meditation
and it will start to move or wobble a
little bit
and then before long
there's a distraction
but as you start to notice that it
wobbles like that you 6r right then and
your mind stays on your object of
meditation
um
there is something that happens before
that movement of mind's attention
when you get to the fourth jhana it
doesn't move very much at all but is
vibrating
as you keep relaxing with the six hours
that vibration becomes less and less and
less
when you get to
this stage of nothingness
it's very fine little tiny movements
that you'll be able to observe
uh
the perception of the base of
nothingness
and unification of mind
the contact feeling perception formation
the
enthusiasm decision energy mindfulness
equanimity and attention
known to him those states arose known
they were present known they disappeared
yeah understood this
and with the cultivation of that
attainment he confirmed that there's
still more to do
by completely surmounting the base of
nothingness
uh
entered upon and abided in the base of
neither perception
nor non-perception
as you're going through nothingness
the vibration becomes very very subtle
and hard to see
as
when you get to the base of neither
perception or non-perception
it's hard to tell whether there's any
vibration
many students come to me and they say is
it possible to be awake and asleep at
the same time
as a child
and my answer is yes that is the state
of neither perception or non-perception
is
you'll be in this state for a short
period of time maybe five minutes or so
it
and is you come out of that state you
remember what happened while you were in
there
you will be able to see colors and
shapes and
different kinds of patterns and things
when you see them you 6r
and then your mind becomes exceptionally
calm
you might be able to sit for an hour
hour and a half two hours without
anything arising
as you get used to this state you will
start to see
very very subtle
links of dependent origination
by this time your six hours should be
automatic
your mind notices
contact
and as soon as it notices six hours and
i relax
and then you might see
mentality materiality arise and six are
that and relax
and then you see
very subtle
consciousness
arise
6r radar
when you let go of the formations there
are no more conditions
um
in other words
that is
you will get into a state that is called
the cessation of perception
feeling and consciousness
you will be in that state for a short
period of time two minutes five minutes
10 minutes like that
when you come out of that state
you will see how the links of dependent
origination arise
and how they cease
and when that last formation disappears
that is what i call the big o wow
when you come out of that state you will
be happy
because
a lot of people are too happy to do that
so i let you go for a little while then
i put you back to work
everything in buddhism has to do with
your understanding
and the way you truly understand is by
seeing it
exactly as it occurs
in english it's called knowledge and
knowledge and vision
that's why when you finally see
exactly how dependent origination works
you understand it
and then there is this huge release
okay
now we're talking about neither
perception nor non-perception
he emerged mindful from that attainment
having done so he observed the states
that had passed ceased and changed
so indeed these states not having been
come into being
having been they vanish
regarding those states he abided
unattracted
he didn't like the state and try to hold
on to it
and with the cultivation of that
attainment he confirmed that there is
course
again monks by completely surmounting
the base of neither perception or
non-perception
sorry
entered upon and abided in the cessation
of perception feeling and consciousness
and his distractions were
you remember at the start of this i said
anytime you hear the word
wise or wisdom in the buddhist
literature
it's talking about the links of
dependent origination
all craving all clinging
vanish
by his seeing exactly how it occurred
he recalled the states that had passed
ceased and changed
having been they
regarding those states he abided
unattracted unrepelled independent
detached free dissociated with a mind
rate of barriers
he understood there is no escape beyond
this
and with the cultivation of that
attainment
he confirmed that there is not
so
remember
to keep using the six r's because you
will use them all the way to the end
and nothing would make me happier than
to see this whole room experience this
is
is it possible
sorry did it in two weeks
right
okay
monk's rightly speaking word to be said
of anyone
he has attained mastery and perfection
in noble virtues
attain mastery and perfection in noble
collectedness
noble wisdom
attain mastery and perfection in noble
deliverance
born
and is kept rolling rightly by sariputta
sariputta is
that is what the blessed one said
the monks were satisfied and delighted
in the blessed ones
that
so i gave you all the keys you need to
get into nibbana
christopher
there's still a few more things i need
to talk about
but this
is definitely gives you an idea of where
you are
on the path
and what you need to do and what your
experiences will be
i have had students tell me
that what i'm saying about this is
exactly right
uh
so does anybody have any questions
now you know why this is my favorite
suitable
anybody
everybody's yeah
do you believe that our capacity is even
better than that
kenya
so you have to come to the next retreat
in swan
foreign
how long did it take doug when he got
there
that was less than 10 days
just let it alone let it alone it was
less than 10 days
yeah and we had we had
two other people that came and they were
there for nine days
very successful
but to be honest
i have to tell you they did a lot of
meditation with me before they did they
came
for that
foreign
you said that you gave us the key to
nibbana is that key
yes absolutely
that is the way
you have to understand even the links of
dependent origination
are
a
distraction
and when you
keep using the 6r and the distraction
gets smaller and smaller and smaller and
finally there is no more
that's when you attain nevada
it is a six hour
and we are talking about very subtle
states of mind where your awareness has
to be exceptionally
m
well in the course of meeting uh
when we leave when we forget about the
key
and forget about six hours what should
we
drown yourself
might as well just commit suicide
don't forget
that's the whole point um
showing you how to carry that with you
when you're walking from here to your
car
before you go to work
i'm showing you how to carry that with
you in many different ways
so that when you get off retreat you can
continue
meditation is not just about sitting
here meditation is all of life
and there will be times that you will
forget and you will get caught and you
will suffer
but the length of time that you suffer
gets to be less and less as you become
more
uh familiar with the six r's and you
start to use them more
and life
really begins to be fun
sometimes it makes my whole day when i
see a little child
that is crying
and i radiate meta to them
so you make other people happy when you
get happy
why do you think i tell you to smile all
the time
it reminds you it makes your mindfulness
sharper
me
um
something
may suffering ones be suffering free and
the fear struck fearless be
may the grieving shed all grief
and may all beings find relief
may all beings share this merit that
we've thus acquired for the acquisition
of all kinds of happiness
may beings inhabiting space and earth
devas and nagas of mighty power
they long ours the buddha's dispensation
you
