the women always like this particular
suit because it domine nuh was the wife
of the Sokka
and he was a merchant
and very successful but he started going
and visiting the Buddha and then we
would he would come back from seeing the
Buddha and she would go out to greet him
and take him in and beat him and then
they would go to bed then one day she
came up to greet him he didn't read her
back and he walked into the dining hall
anyway the moussaka came came back from
seeing the Buddha and he didn't read his
wife and she went in and fixed a meal
for him and he didn't say anything then
he got ready for bed and he laid down on
the bed and she got ready for bed and
laid down on the bed beside him like
they always had done and he got up and
laid down on the floor so she thought
it's the strength so she got up and laid
down on the floor and he got up and went
on the bed so she said have I done
something wrong make you angry with me
what's what's happening here and he said
well actually I did some meditation at
that at the Buddhist I in a Buddha's
presence and I became a non egami
and being a non agami means that there
is no lust porn or sacred ever arise in
Kent Emma gallons and he said we can
live like brother and sister or if you
want you can take over the whole house
and do whatever you want and take over
the business that's up to you and she
said well what I really want is to be
coming begoony is that alright with you
we adapt she had to ask permission and
he said yes so she became a bit Cooney
and she did a lot of meditation and
before too long she became an are hot
and she was living at a monastery and
visakha went to visit her and have
dhamma discussions so that's what this
is all about that's have I heard on one
occasion the blessed one was living in
raja kaha the bamboo
the squirrel sanctuaries then the lay
follower he stayed a legs he didn't take
on the ropes went to the Baku need a
medina his former wife and after paying
homage to her sat down as one side and
ask her lady personality personality is
said what is called personality by the
Blessed ones friend moussaka these five
aggregates that are affected by craving
and clinging are called personality by
the blessed one that is the material
form aggregates affected by craving and
cleaning the feeling aggregate affected
by craving and clinging the perception
aggregate affected by Clare craving and
clinging the formations aggregate
affected by craving and cleaning and the
consciousness aggregate affected by
creating and clinging these five
aggregates affected by craving and
clinging are called personality by the
blessed one these five aggregates are
only called personality when they are
affected by craving and clingy and that
means getting carried away with your
your liking and disliking and the story
about it
saying good lady soul a follower nasaka
delighted and rejoiced in the Baku knees
da Medina's words then he asked her a
further question lady origin of
personality origin of personality is
that what is called the origin of
personality by the Blessed ones friends
Osaka it is craving which brings the
renewal of habitual tendency is a
company by delight and lust the lights
and this and that that is craving for
sensual pleasures craving for habitual
tendency and craving for non being this
is called the origin of personality by
the blessed one lady cessation of
personality cessation of personality is
that what is called the cessation of
personality by the Blessed One Brenda
Sokka it is the remainder bliss fading
away and ceasing the giving up
relinquishing letting go and rejecting
of that same craving what are you doing
every time music's are
go of crazy
this is called the cessation of
personality by the Blessed One lady the
way leading to the cessation of
personality the way leading to the
cessation of personality is that what is
the way leading to the cessation of
personality by the Blessed One friend
visakha is just as Noble Eightfold Path
that is harmonious perspective
harmonious imaging harmonious
communication harmonious movement
harmonious lifestyle our money is
practice harmonious observation and
harmonious collectiveness
lady is that clinging the same has these
five aggregates affected by tangy or is
clinging something apart from the five
aggregates affected by craving teeny
friend visakha that clinging is neither
the same as the five aggregates affected
by craving and claiming nor is claiming
something apart from the five aggregates
affected by craving and clingy it is the
desire the lust in regard to the five
aggregates affected by craving and
clinging that is the clinging here
lady how does personality you come to be
here friend a nun Todd ordinary person
who has no regard for the noble ones is
unskilled and undisciplined in their
gamma who has no regard for true men and
is unskilled and undisciplined in their
Dhamma regards material form as self or
self as possessed of material form or
material form as in self or self as in
material form he regards feeling as self
or self as possessed a feeling or
feeling as in self herself as in feeling
he regards perception is self or self as
possessed of perception or perception as
in South for self as in perception he
regards formations as self or self as
possessed of formations or formations as
in self or self as informations he
regards consciousness as self or self as
possessed of consciousness or as
consciousness as in self for self as in
consciousness that is how personality
view comes to be get it
lady how does personality view not come
to be good question here friend visakha
well Todd Noble disciple who has regard
for noble ones and a skilled and
disciplined in their Dhamma who has
regard for true men and his guild and
disciplined in their Dhamma does not
regard material form as self or self as
possessed of material form or material
form as in self for self as in material
form he does not regard feeling as self
for self as possessed of feelings or
feeling as in self or self as in feeling
he does not regard perception as self or
self as possessed of perception for
perception as in self or self as in
perception he does not regard formations
as self or self as possessed of
formations or formations as in self
herself as informations he does not
regard consciousness as self or self as
possessed of consciousness or
consciousness as in self or self as in
consciousness that is how personality
view does not come to be lady what is
the Noble Eightfold Path friend visakha
it is just this noble
a fold path that is harmonious
perspective you remember what harmonious
perspective is seeing everything as
being in person
you see everything as being impersonal
when you see everything is being in
personal num seen this man
when you see everything as part of an
impersonal process there is no
attachment when you see everything has
an impersonal process there is no cream
and then one is in the universal
consciousness one can say no and it is
such a big think I'd know drugs being
and dance in a white bean not from the
not making a proprietor always to
everything work to feeling and craziness
again controls actually much to see it
as an input as
universal energy on which we all hang in
there are small at launching
yeah so oh my god me still experience
it's creepy
they still cling to things and they
still have a tiny bit of crazy
they still have pride thinking that
they're really special because they're
they're who they are
they still have ignorance ignorance
means not seeing the Four Noble Truths
what is a second noble truth the origin
of suffering what is the origin of
suffering crees so there's small amount
that doesn't actually disappear until
you become an hour then you get to come
with me to Missouri State da medina oh
my god I'm sorry I'm sorry I didn't mean
they 100 in the file okay so
restlessness can occur completely
without without lost or heat yes
well the thing is when when lust and
hatred are still within the hindrances
don't they don't come up on each time
they like to gain up and keep you in
your down right so they did they like a
the lust for something with restlessness
it's planning right I really like to
plan this is great stuff there's two
hindrances right there and with a
version
restless comes up I don't like this I
want it to stop so you have two
entrances right there but 16 art takes
care of them all resolution is Prince
abroad her governess many of the
hindrances to me can attack on us yes
they do Richard a cat digging good son
so far none agami there's just like a
lot of movement I wouldn't say a lot I
mean not having less than hate cuts down
a lot of movement and your mind is
exceptionally clear because you don't
have these things clouding you at all
but can they still get restlessness yes
and eat and they still get slot than
tour forget they don't get slot they get
torque
they do have periods of very short
periods of time when they can have a
little dull or they might have a very
small amount of restlessness for right
but it's not going to be overwhelming
like it is right now for all of us okay
somebody knows that but yeah yeah so
when you say they have you know last
major a version and desire now does that
mean that the propensity for it the or
that it's really present at all times no
it's not present at all soapy they come
up when one comes up there's the I like
it or I don't racket in it so it's a
propensity to be able to but what is
then eliminated is the seed of that the
clause for that to arise not completely
well in the arrived let's just say any
are not of course every all load fetters
are gone okay all there is to it but in
the on egami they still have a little
bit of craving and commune left so they
still have some attachment so you said
that we're having you know as we
practice the six hours these are in fact
cessations yes and so from and then
these stages these paths are seems to me
that attained you know 16 hour at a time
until they're sort of you know dropped
yeah they're basically are you dropping
these fetters right incremental e your
you're weakening and till they just are
so many thing fade away and
back
okay and that is because you keep 6rn
you start to get the sense of I go again
all the same time it did the magic cool
that there is night now but that's this
kind of starts to fade away absolutely I
just
no all this this is another whatever
thing coming up max don't get involved
with the story of it don't get involved
with your opinions whether it's good bad
or indifferent so let it be and relax
when you relax you've let go of the
gravy when you've let go of the craving
no clinging camp arrives
no thing you can arise your eventual
tendency dozen tonight when that doesn't
arise earth the birth of action doesn't
arise when that doesn't arise Adrian
death
so you want to be perpetually young
characteristics are very deep that's
young in mind not necessarily perpetual
young your body yeah I can vouch for
that so batta if I could just stick it
doesn't take one step with the few
people that I mean I don't I see older
people now who are yet friends of
parents that are mentally losing it
because they don't meditate or have
never meditated and they just really
don't know what goes on there like
delusional and these were people who
were successful in business and
everything and had a very fine working
mind at one time does meditation this
meditation in fact create a level of
awareness where that doesn't happen well
that's kind of tricky because some of it
is physical things p generation yeah its
physical degeneration but it's a lot of
it comes from the kinds of foods that we
put in our body and you wear deodorant
that has
and then gets into your system and that
starts affecting your mind and a very
are you you drink fluoride in your water
or you use for right in your toothpaste
these are going to affect you later on
in life in a very negative way and that
is the start of the degeneration of mind
but when you eat healthy food and you
practice meditation then did you notice
tunku lucido when he was in his mid 90s
before he died yeah I had an interview
with him I was kind of blown away she
got big shark mine sure cuz he was agile
yeah yeah it just was some ancient man
and he's just bouncing around he didn't
have a large command of English but he
was it was very inspiring oh yeah and
that's what the meditation can do for
you but you have to do it in a balanced
way with the way that you're living and
this part is part of right idly the
right lifestyle
you know I really think not too long ago
that there was a lot of women that were
starting to get both breast cancer and
thyroid cancer and they found out the
cause of that was from the black dye
that we're putting in their hair
when you have that kind of physical
problem it is going to affect the way
you think whether you like to believe it
or not so it's it's kind of a tricky
question that you're asking because it
all depends on not just the factor
that's the mental factor it's the fact
that's body factor too and what has been
put into the body so that would affect
the cognitive ability shirking that kind
of stuff got it the district our memory
oh you got we're making your own karma
by using these kind of things that are
not good for your body right okay so
getting back to the Eightfold Path I was
at a meditation center doing one month
retreat and somebody at the end of the
retreat asked the monk that was teaching
why did the Buddha always talk about
right view first and
my answer is that it is the aspect of
seeing everything as in person and
that's really important aspect that's
why its first and this monk said with a
smirk because that's what the Buddha did
he didn't have a clue
but the whole point of of the meditation
is to see that everything is in fact
just an impersonal process and to
realize that is the goal to realize that
for yourself
okay then we have harmonious imaging
what kind of an image do you hold in
your mind is it harmonious imaging or
unharmonious imagery what does that mean
one of the best examples is money and
talk to some people and they they tell
you that they never have enough money
they're always broke and that's the kind
of image that they hold for themselves
and the universe being the universe that
it is makes it so because that's the
kind of image they hold in your mind all
the time people that are very badly
overweight you talk to them about them
gay they're being overweight and you see
that that's the kind of image that they
hold for themselves well I've been like
this my whole life there's nothing I can
do about it and they keep on holding
this image of being fat and as a result
they eat a lot of things they shouldn't
eat and that makes it makes them back
and they eat in a way that they
shouldn't eat almost every fat person
that you ever see when they chew their
food they chew it once or twice and
swallow
this causes body to get that it's real
hard on the digestion real hard in a lot
of ways the Buddha it is said in the
suit does that whenever he ate food
there wasn't one grain of rice that
wasn't masticated in other words chewed
before he's followed try slowing down
and chewing your food until it turns to
liquid in your mouth and all of a sudden
he'll start noticing how much more
healthy feel it's really amazing and the
Buddha also said that you want to eat
until your stomach is half full
take a quarter for water and leave a
quarter for air and that's how you stay
healthy of course it does take some
decent food
but that's all they had during the time
of the Buddha they had organic food so
what kind of an image do you hold you
hold an image of yourself as being a
successful meditator or an image of
yourself of not being able to understand
or an image of yourself I know it all
what kind of an image do you hold about
yourself that's what the universe gives
to you and when you hold the view that
everything that arises is impersonal
that image will help you to get off of
the wheel of anybody
I believe that thank you okay now we
come to harmonious communication who do
you communicate most with are you nice
to yourself or not there is no such a
thing as try their own is either do or
don't do no track I love you to further
and a good question to ask yourself is
do I like myself right now yeah
am I happy
and if you're not then don't hold on to
being unhappy love yourself let go of
the critical thoughts about what you
think is right
I've said this a couple times during the
retreat but you do 25 things in a day
that are absolutely brilliant that
helped many many people and do one thing
that your mind says was wrong what do
you think about so why don't you start
thinking about the right
when I was in Malaysia there was one man
that he was really negative he was
continually anything he said it came out
negative and finally and told him that
he had to sit down with a piece of paper
and a pen and he had to write down five
things that he really liked about
himself it took him over an hour and
then when he did that he came to me and
I said oh good do five more and when he
came back I said now look at that list
and feel that feel each one of these
things and reflect on how you you are
when you do these things and how you you
start appreciating yourself for being
like this and they said okay when you
get done with that then I want you every
day to make a new list ten qualities
that you really like in yourself can't
repeat do that for a week and what
happens is you start not only looking at
yourself with kindly eyes you start
looking at those qualities and other
people and it really is kind of a fun
practice
try it
I want to see your list then we have
harmonious movement and harmonious
movement is how you treat yourself and
your mind are you jerking yourself
around are you trying to force things
away by this kind of movement stop them
from happening or are you in harmony
with the movement without doing things
too fast without doing them too slow
seeing and letting go of the things that
we get attached letting them be
unplug
okay then we have right lifestyle
harmonious lifestyle and then harmonious
practice harmonious mindfulness and
harmonious collectiveness the harmonious
lifestyle is how are you living are you
living in harmony or are you not that
means with everything around you with
everyone around you are you being in
harmony are you living with harmony and
harmony with yourself
are you living in a way that is
uplifting
that helps not only you with other
people around you
the harmonious practice is the six ours
the harmonious mindfulness is your
observation power and the collectiveness
is having a mind that's calm collected
composed and
still
I had a question yeah suggestion you had
earlier would it be best to make these
lists in the morning or evening it's
just your choice but i want to see him
when you get that
how is practice and collective go to get
it from Ramona is practice is the six RS
the collectiveness is the result of the
harmonious practice
lady is this noble eightfold path
conditioned or unconditioned what do you
think James friend visakha the Noble
Eightfold Path is conditioned lady are
the three aggregates included by the
Noble Eightfold Path or is the Noble
Eightfold Path included by the three
aggregates the three aggregates are
talking about wisdom morality
concentration the three aggregates are
not included in Noble Eightfold Path
friend visakha but the Noble Eightfold
Path is included by these three
aggregates this is where I get into
problems with monks that are scholars
okay right speech right action and right
livelihood these states are included in
the aggregate of virtue when they're
talking about meditation they tell you
don't even have to pay attention to
these three aggregates because we're
already doing but as you saw by the
definitions I was just giving you a
peephole path it all relates to the
meditation so we go round and round with
that so you want to keep teaching a five
fold path not an Eightfold Path if you
say that the that the virtue is isn't
necessary because it's automatic I've
never
any part of the Eightfold Path to be
truly automatic right effort right
mindfulness when ranked collectiveness
these states are included in the
aggregate aggregate of concentration
right view and rights imaging these
states are included in the aggregate of
wisdom now we're going to be talking
about concentration but I don't like to
use that word because it's so
misunderstood so I change this to
collectiveness lady what is collected
pneus what is the basis of
collectiveness what is the equipment of
collectiveness what is the development
of collectiveness unification of minds
of bringing together and staying on your
object to meditation friend misaka is
collected pneus the four foundations of
mindfulness are the basis of
collectiveness the four right kinds of
striding six ours
are the equipment of collectiveness
listen closely the repetition
development and cultivation of these
same states is the development of
collected nasteria ok how much
repetition do you do with the 6rz a few
times ok now we're going to talk about
the formations lady how many formations
are there there are these three
formations Busacca friend Osaka the
bodily formation the verbal formation
and the mental formation but lady what
is the bodily formation what is the
verbal formation what is the mental
formation in breathing and out breathing
friend visakha are the bodily formation
thinking and examining thought are the
verbal formation perception feeling and
consciousness are the mental formation
yeah so the girl information stop at
second down
while you're in meditation yes but does
it stop you from talking outside of the
meditation
already
in and out breath
there is one whose kids huh I'm sorry oh
isn't now what is only in and now friend
because that's nothing
what other things do you want it to
include
um
does it doesn't see it doesn't mean if a
the actual action of the body
you can't live unless you're breathing
in Oh best weapon
but it does not refer to breeding in
economy
oh now listen to this why are in
breathing and out breathing the bodily
formation why are thinking and examining
thought the verbal formation why our
perception feeling and consciousness the
mental formation friend Busacca in
breathing and out breathing our bodily
these states these are states bound up
with the body that is why in breathing
and out breathing are the bottling
formation got it
first one thinks and examines thought
and subsequently one breaks out into
speech that is why thinking and
examining thought are the verbal
formation perception feeling and
consciousness are mental these are
States bound up with mind that is why
perception feeling and consciousness are
mental formation attaining cessation
lady how does the attainment of
cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness come to be friend bussaco
when a monk is attaining the cessation
of perception feeling in consciousness
it does not occur to him I shall attain
the cessation of perception feeling in
consciousness or I am attaining the
cessation of perception feeling of
content consciousness or I have attained
the cessation of perception dealing
unconsciousness but rather his mind has
previously been developed in such a way
that it leads him to that state
hey you got it understand it okay lady
when a monk is attaining the cessation
of perception feeling and consciousness
which state sees in him first the bodily
formation of verbal formation or the
mental formation friend Busacca when a
monk is attaining the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness
first the valve verbal formation cease
then the bodily formation and the mental
formation that's the order of the CC
lady how does emergence from the
attainment of the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness
come to be how do you get out of the
state friend Masako when a monk is
emerging from the attainment of the
cessation of perception feeling in
consciousness it does not occur to him I
shall emerge from the attainment of the
cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness or I'm emerging from the
attainment of the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness or
I have emerged from the attainment of
the cessation feeling of consciousness
but rather his mind has previously been
developed in such a way that him it
leads into that state so what happens
when you steal or when you experience
the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness you
will be in that state for a little while
the first time that happens let's take
my last five minutes ten minutes
something like that not very long and
then we'll come out by itself and then
because your mind is so pure they had no
perception no feeling and no
consciousness at that time that is why
you're able to see the links of
dependent origination how they arise and
how they cease all of these are
conditions one thing conditions another
when it comes to the cessation when this
doesn't arise that won't arise when that
won't arise this one or right and you
come down to the formations and finally
you see the cessation of the Four Noble
Truths you see the cessation of
ignorance now there's no more conditions
you've seen all the conditions and you
let them go that's how your mind gets
into the pumpkin
you've let go of all of these concepts
and then you get to the place of no
concepts that is the unconditioned state
that is Nevada how work
now there's actually three paths that
you can take to attain me but first you
have to get to the 4th job that's the
start of it if your mind is very
intelligent but not particularly
sensitive to feeling then you go through
all of the our pajamas and the cessation
of perception and feeling and then
seeing dependent origination in the
bottom that's one way if your mind is it
can be intelligent but not particular
but very particularly sensitive to
feeling this is when psychic abilities
start happening and they happen by
themselves
but the last of the psychic abilities is
the cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness and then seeing dependent
origination and
but then the last way of attaining this
is by getting to the 4th jhana
remembering past lifetimes then
this is where you develop the divine
here in the divine I you start visiting
beings in other realms you see they're
passing away and arising from one won't
realm to another and you can talk to
them and you can find out what they've
been doing in their last few lifetimes
and why they're in this realm whether
it's a heavenly realm or brahmaloka or a
day belocca doesn't matter it can be a
hell realm it can be a hungry ghosts
realm it can be any of these realms what
happens is you start to see dependent
origination of rising in them and you
see how it works and then there is the
cessation of perception and dealing then
you actually see this and then you
attain nirvana
now the thing is of these three paths
the one that I call the fast track is
the way that the Buddha did was called
in poly is called tbj nidra as wisdom
teaches three this is the three wisdoms
so you're seeing past lives you're
seeing a rata passing away and rising of
beings and different realms in you're
seeing it dependent origination Endicott
that way
many monks practice that way during the
time
I prefer to teach going through all of
the jobs and going through the aruba
johns mostly because people in America
are incredibly intelligent
and it takes a good 5 to 10 years to
develop peace I haven't
spontaneous happening it takes a lot of
work to develop the skill to be able to
fly in the air or read other person's
mind walk through walls and things like
that dive into the earth
and you think that the up ray of the
western line has a lot to do with that
intellect
you know I i I've considered this a lot
and haven't really come up with an
answer yet we learn in a lot different
way than the Asians burn the Asians do
things for repetitious and that could
have a lot to do with their sensitivity
to feeling and also there they have very
much stronger family ties and that could
have something to do with their
sensitive to feelings you know I've seen
Asian families where the youngest son
was forty-five years old still living at
home and it wasn't because he was lazy
he was going out working all the time he
could live by himself but his family
wanted him close and he got married and
he took us his wife and moved into them
I mean she moved into the family too
that doesn't happen in America so much
we're taught to be more quote
independent and I think that might have
something to do with the lack of
sensitivity to I mean when you give with
a group of people and you live with them
on for a long period of time you can
each other's thinking right but in our
country what what we're encouraged to do
is when you get out of high school get
out of the house and then then you lose
that possibility of having that
sensitivity and that's kind of a problem
I suspect in the last two a lot has to
do with sensitive Questor enlightenment
with the rise of science and the whole
kind of objective thinking really
suppressed a lot of wise leaders in the
other way of thinking that's it was
poured out on the best up until about
1700s and still run out of cultures
the other ones
well you know what you think and ponder
on what we're taught to think and ponder
on is science and not spirituality and
not sensitivity we're not taught to have
that come up as much as it could yeah I
also think subcultures are more luck
worrying and others are more ripe berry
but that that comes from a variety of
different reasons and one of the biggest
one is the family and the small villages
without the flashing lights and loud
music and things of the city I mean when
I went out into Burma and I started
teaching meditation in Burma I was
completely shocked at how fast everybody
caught on I mean in a week or ten days
they were gay and it wasn't this kind of
meditation that I was teaching I was
teaching the casa de and they were
getting into in 10 days they were
getting into Sanka Rebecca equanimity
two formations and that's very deep in
10 days
you know not bad
but it wasn't just one person I mean
this was like at this one village I went
to there must have been 15 people that
took the retreat in 10 of them got to
that state it was amazing and having a
small village living in a small
community where you can share where you
can me where you're completely secure
that helps opening up the ability to get
into the other parts of the brain but
because we live where the way we do in
the and how we do with the electronic
age and if you have to wait for two
minutes for your computer to do
something you're pounding and say god
this is slow i wish you to hurry up but
somebody that lives on the farm they're
not doing that they just say okay yes
and then they'll sit there has been a
date for a minute or two it's no big
deal so it's all in the way that we
perceive and the way that we live
so after cessation apparently from the
description of the sea scene of the
bodily formations the in and out breath
the breath itself would cease for the
eris Luke I'm so it's done there's no
breathing for five or ten minutes and a
body that is experiencing sensation
breath goes through the years happen it
happens by itself the the actual thing
that happens is your heartbeat slows
down it doesn't completely stopped but
it slows down to like two or three a
minute oh so there's not enough of need
for oxygen at that time so it's almost a
nap close close you'll get to see that
in okay hold on boy let me just finish
my question so that it would follow that
when these formations realized that they
would arise in the reverse order in the
facies to see that just
okay lady when a monk is emerging from
the attainment of the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness
which states arise in him first bodily
formation verbal formation or mental
formation friend visakha when a monk is
emerging from the attainment of the
cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness first the mental formation
arises then the bodily formation arises
then the verbal formation arises lady
when a monk has emerged from the
attainment of the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness how
many kinds of contact touch him bread
moussaka when a monk has emerged from
the attainment of the cessation of
perception feeling of dealing in
consciousness three kinds of contact
touch him voidness contact sign lyst
contact and desireless contact
that's what you experience while you're
in that cessation of perception feeling
and consciousness lady when a monk is
emerged from the attainment of the
cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness to what does his mind
inclined to what does it lead to what
does it tend friend hosaka when a monk
has emerged from the attainment of the
cessation of perception feeling in
consciousness his mind inclines to
seclusion leans to seclusion tends to
seclusion don't feel like did you feel
like sitting just being by yourself not
popping out say hey now you do today
that's what silence contact there are
you know what a sign is you don't know
what assignments inhibitor
but silence contact means that there is
no disturbance there is no signs and
features coming up in your in your mind
why because there's no perception
there's no feeling there's no
consciousness so there is no sign that's
why it's assignments okay and the was it
the link would what is what is the void
pneus it means that there is nothing
that arises at that time
it is void of everything that can
possibly arise
lady how many kinds of feeling are there
from the sakha there are three kinds of
feeling pleasant feeling painful feeling
and neither painful or pleasant feeling
but lady what is pleasant feeling what
is painful feeling what is neither
painful more pleasant feeling friend
bussaco whatever is felt bodily or
mentally as pleasure as pleasant and
soothing is pleasant feeling whatever is
felt bodily and mentally as painful and
hurting is a painful feeling whatever is
felt bodily or mentally as neither
soothing nor hurting is neither painful
nor pleasant feeling lady what is
pleasant and what is painful in regard
to pleasant feeling what is painful and
what is pleasant in regard to painful
feeling what is pleasant and what is
painful in regard to neither painful
more pleasant feelings friend this acha
pleasant feeling is pleasant when it
persists and painful when it changes
right
we've been sitting long enough to
recognize that as being true remember
painful feeling is painful when it
persists and pleasant when it changes is
that right neither painful more pleasant
feeling is pleasant when there is
knowledge of it and painful when there
is no knowledge of it okay so neither
either painful my pleasantest actually
pleasant
when you know that it's there and what
is that actually referring to its
referring to when you have neither
painful more pleasant feeling it is
pleasant when you have equanimity and
when you do not it is not blessed in
other words your mindfulness is is
caught up with indifference and it's
very weak so you don't really recognize
this and that in itself causes you to
get caught up in your thinking and your
your your whole situation with what
you're thinking about and that sort of
thing so it's boring an example of that
absolutely go through it
boredom is a great sign it is absolutely
one of the best signs that you can have
when you're meditating when you said go
through it explain 6rf allowed to be
who's bored but same with indifference
yes that's Matt that's Matt festive
tourism for them or can be I suppose it
can or not but boredom is is a great
sign I love to see it when people have
it
it's a sign of your development
it's a sign that you're working
and you're repeating something over and
over and over again and you're bored
with it who's bored
whose attack all you need to do is let
go that very simple thing six art and on
the other side of that is something good
okay
Jessica laughs at all you want to
so that in the same category as
disenchantment and a difference that's a
lesser category of it but it's getting
there that's it lady what underlying
tendency underlies pleasant feeling what
underlying tendency underlies painful
feelings
what underlying tendency underlies
neither painful nor pleasant feeling
friendly saka the underlying tendency to
lust underlies being a pleasant feeling
the underlying tendency to aversion
underlies painful feeling the underlying
tendency to ignorance underlies the
neither painful more pleasant feeling
lady does the underlying tendency to
lust underlie all pleasant feeling does
the underlying tendency to aversion
underlie all painful feeling does the
underlying tendency to ignorance
underlie all neither painful more
pleasant feeling Brenda Sokka the
underlying tendency to lust is not
underlie all paid pleasant feeling the
underlying to tendency the underlying
tendency to aversion does not underlie
all painful feeling the underlying
tendency to ignorance does not underlie
all neither painful more pleasant
feeling lady what should be abandoned in
regard to pleasant feeling what should
be abandoned in regard to painful
feeling what should be abandoned and
regard to neither painful more pleasant
feeling Brenda Sokka the underlying
tendency to lust should be abandoned in
regard to pleasant feeling so the
underlying tendency to lust means to be
let go of when there is a pleasant
feeling right
six are that pleasant feeling the
underlying tendency to aversion should
be abandoned in regard to painful
feeling how many people here do that
underlying tendency
the aversion of the painful feeling
Joe heads nobody some anyway the
underlying tendon its tendency to
ignorance should be abandoned in regard
to neither painful nor pleasant feeling
lady does the underlying tendency to
lust have to be abandoned in regard to I
just read that okay does the underlying
tendency to lust have to be abandoned in
regard to all pleasant feeling does the
underlying tendency to aversion have to
be abandoned in regard to all painful
feeling does the underlying tendency to
ignorance have to be abandoned in regard
to all neither painful more pleasant
feeling friends Osaka the underlying
tendency to lust does not have to be
abandoned in regard to all pleasant
feeling the underlying tendency to
aversion does not have to be abandoned
in regard to all painful feeling the
underlying tendency to ignorance does
not have to be abandoned in regard to
neither painful or pleasant feeling here
friend visakha quite secluded from
sensual pleasures secluded from
unwholesome states among enters upon an
abides in the first round which is
accompanied by thinking and examining
thought with joy and happiness born of
seclusion with that he abandons lust and
the underlying tendency to lust does not
underlie that
then that doesn't that statement right
there doesn't that say that you don't
become attached to Jonas doesn't it yeah
that was pretty good job with it here's
your argument right I remember that 128
suit too wordy war-era monk considers
thus when shall I enter upon and abide
in the base that the noble ones now
entering upon and abide in in one who
thus generates a longing for the supreme
liberation brief arises with that long
with that he abandons a version in the
underlying tendency to aversion and does
not underlie that here with the
abandoning of pleasure and pain with a
previous disappearance of joy and grief
amok enters upon and abides in the 4th
jhana which has neither pain nor
pleasure and purity of mindfulness duty
equanimity with that he abandons
ignorance and the underlying tendency to
a tendency to ignorance does not
underlie that by underlying by
abandoning ignorance what he's talking
about is developing equanimity
lady what is the counterpart of pleasant
feeling friend asanka painful feeling is
the counterpart of pleasant feeling what
is the counterpart of painful feeling
pleasant feeling is a counterpart of
painful feeling what is the counterpart
of neither painful more pleasant feeling
ignorance is the counterpart of neither
painful more pleasant feeling what is
the counterpart of ignorance true
knowledge is a counterpart of excuse me
ignorance what is the counterpart of
true knowledge deliverance is the
counterpart of true knowledge what is
the counterpart of deliverance Nibhana
is the counterpart of deliverance lady
what is the counterpart of Nibhana
friend moussaka you have pushed this
line of questioning too far
you were not able to grasp the limit to
the questions for the holy life friend
Vaisakhi merges in Nibhana culminates in
nevada and ends in the bottom if you
wish friend Busacca go to the blessed
one and ask him about the meaning of
this as the blessed one explains it to
you you should remember it then lady the
Leigh follower visakha having delighted
and rejoiced in New bhikkhuni da
Medina's words rose from his seat and
after paying homage to her keeping her
on the right he went to the blessed one
after paying homage to him he sat down
at one side and told the blessed one his
entire conversation with the Baku need a
medina when he fished finish speaking
the blue the blessed one told him the
Baku need a medina is wise the Baku
needa Medina has great wisdom if you had
asked me the meaning of this I would
have explained it to you in the same way
that the Baku need a medina has
explained it such is its meaning and so
you should remember it that is what the
Blessed ones that the way power of
Hassakeh was satisfied and delight
in the Blessed ones words the thing with
Baku need a medina which she was
foremost in expounding the dump of all
of the because he was really good one we
really understood it and she could say
it to you in a way that she'd understand
okay daddy questions we've been asking
questions all the time yeah that was
this waiting for the answer for this and
we're sitting show Coughlin when he said
the honor when she said the underlying
County where Las does not have to be
abandoned in regard to all puzzles right
getting into drama
ok so the joy that arises in the channel
not have to be a man but
so on it's all pervasive yeah that's
right this is one of the Enlightenment
factors
let's see if I can throw this out there
navona is unconditional and the bonnet
creek you can have navona become a soda
pop and become socketed Elmo on the
downy bird however it seems like it is
the lower ones until your air hot it is
not a fun conditioned state because
there is craving at certain points with
those certain feds know now while you're
in it it is unconditioned when you come
out of it because you haven't you
haven't gone deep enough when you come
out of it those conditions and the right
so it's that state accessible once
you've before East sort of on a second
egami time ago it's what state navona
decision can't obtain it if you don't
but can they repeatedly accessible
easily only the Nibhana is only
experienced twice by each of those
states ok it's only experienced twice
they can get into the cessation of
perception and dealing if you are on
agami for an are hot many times but you
will not
you will not see dependent origination
which you cannot know
so why do it really
you think you have relief now with a
little bit of stillness of my think
about students being able to sit for
seven days without having your mind move
without even having consciousness
I'll check
and don't not while you're in that state
you have to make a determination to come
out of that state
in another suit
okay we start talking about the by
faculties this is the suitor right
before this suit 243 we're going to
section 21 the PI bakal t friend these
five faculties each have a separate
field a separate domain and do not
experience each other's field and domain
that is the I faculty year faculty nose
faculty tug faculty and body faculty now
these five faculties each have a
separate field a separate domain not
experiencing each other's field or
domain what is it talking about you know
here through your eyes you don't smell
through your through your ears they each
have their own their own realm each of
these by faculties what is their resort
what experience is their field and
domains friend these five faculties each
have a separate field as separate domain
and do not experience each other's field
and though
that is the I faculty year faculty those
faculty ton faculty and Biden faculty
now these five faculties each have a
separate field and a separate domain not
experiencing each other's build and
don't mean they have mine as their
resort and mind experiences their fields
and domains okay
friend as to these five faculties that
is the eye ear nose tongue body faculty
what do these five faculty stand in
dependence on friend as to these five
faculties that is the eye ear nose
tongue and body faculties by faculty
stand in dependence on vitality okay
Fred what does vitality stand in
dependence on vitality stands in
dependence on heat friend what does heat
stand in dependence on your gonna love
this answer he stands in dependence on
vitality just now friend we understood
the venerable sorry booted to have said
vitality stands and dependence on heat
and now we understand him to say he
stands in dependence on vitality how
should the meaning of this statement be
regarded think it's a good question in
that case friend I shall give you
assembly for some wise men here
understand the meaning of a statement by
means of assembly just as when an oil
lamp is burning its radiance is seen in
dependence on its flame and its flame is
seen in dependence on its radiance
one without the other right here
dependent on each other
so to vitality stands and dependence on
heat and heat stands in dependence on
vitality ok friends are vital formation
states of feeling or are vital
formations one thing in states of
feeling another vital formations friend
is not our vital formations friend are
not states of feeling if bio formations
were states of healing then when a monk
has entered upon the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness he
would not be seen to emerge from it ok
because vital formations are one thing
and states of feeling another when a
monk is entered upon the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness
here he can be seen to emerge from it
friend when this body is to be reaped of
how many states is it then discarded
forsaken left lying senseless like a log
friend when this body is bereaved of
three states vitality heat and
consciousness it is then discarded and
forsaken left senseless like like a love
that means dying friend what is the
difference between one who is dead and
one who has completed his time in a monk
who has entered upon the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness
friend in the case of one who is dead
who has completed his time his bodily
formation subsea stand subsided his
verbal formations have ceased and
subsided his mental formations have
ceased and subsided his vitality is
exhausted his heat has been dissipated
and his faculties are fully broken up in
the case of a monk who has entered upon
the cessation of perception and feeling
and consciousness his bodily formations
have seized and subsided his verbal
formations have ceased and subsided his
mental formations have ceased and
subsided but his
eyetality is not exhausted his heat has
not been dissipated and his faculties
become exceptionally clear this is the
difference between one who is dead and
one who and who has completed his time
and a monk who is entered upon the
cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness so when yours when you're
in the cessation of perception feeling
and and consciousness you still have the
heat in your body and you still have
vitality in your body that will last for
seven days at the most
now getting out of that state you have
to make a determination before you go
into that state that means when you are
on agami all right I've talked to some
of you a little bit about learning how
to develop mastery of going in and out
of the Javas this is learning how to
develop your determinations so when you
get to be an auto gommi and you make a
determination it will happen the way you
want so you make a determination well
I've got six and a half days and then I
have to do something so you make the
determination to go in and out of the
cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness for six days 12 hours and
27 seconds and then you go into that and
because of that determination you will
come out at exactly that to the second
you
the women always like this particular
suit because it domine nuh was the wife
of the Sokka
and he was a merchant
and very successful but he started going
and visiting the Buddha and then we
would he would come back from seeing the
Buddha and she would go out to greet him
and take him in and beat him and then
they would go to bed then one day she
came up to greet him he didn't read her
back and he walked into the dining hall
anyway the moussaka came came back from
seeing the Buddha and he didn't read his
wife and she went in and fixed a meal
for him and he didn't say anything then
he got ready for bed and he laid down on
the bed and she got ready for bed and
laid down on the bed beside him like
they always had done and he got up and
laid down on the floor so she thought
it's the strength so she got up and laid
down on the floor and he got up and went
on the bed so she said have I done
something wrong make you angry with me
what's what's happening here and he said
well actually I did some meditation at
that at the Buddhist I in a Buddha's
presence and I became a non egami
and being a non agami means that there
is no lust porn or sacred ever arise in
Kent Emma gallons and he said we can
live like brother and sister or if you
want you can take over the whole house
and do whatever you want and take over
the business that's up to you and she
said well what I really want is to be
coming begoony is that alright with you
we adapt she had to ask permission and
he said yes so she became a bit Cooney
and she did a lot of meditation and
before too long she became an are hot
and she was living at a monastery and
visakha went to visit her and have
dhamma discussions so that's what this
is all about that's have I heard on one
occasion the blessed one was living in
raja kaha the bamboo
the squirrel sanctuaries then the lay
follower he stayed a legs he didn't take
on the ropes went to the Baku need a
medina his former wife and after paying
homage to her sat down as one side and
ask her lady personality personality is
said what is called personality by the
Blessed ones friend moussaka these five
aggregates that are affected by craving
and clinging are called personality by
the blessed one that is the material
form aggregates affected by craving and
cleaning the feeling aggregate affected
by craving and clinging the perception
aggregate affected by Clare craving and
clinging the formations aggregate
affected by craving and cleaning and the
consciousness aggregate affected by
creating and clinging these five
aggregates affected by craving and
clinging are called personality by the
blessed one these five aggregates are
only called personality when they are
affected by craving and clingy and that
means getting carried away with your
your liking and disliking and the story
about it
saying good lady soul a follower nasaka
delighted and rejoiced in the Baku knees
da Medina's words then he asked her a
further question lady origin of
personality origin of personality is
that what is called the origin of
personality by the Blessed ones friends
Osaka it is craving which brings the
renewal of habitual tendency is a
company by delight and lust the lights
and this and that that is craving for
sensual pleasures craving for habitual
tendency and craving for non being this
is called the origin of personality by
the blessed one lady cessation of
personality cessation of personality is
that what is called the cessation of
personality by the Blessed One Brenda
Sokka it is the remainder bliss fading
away and ceasing the giving up
relinquishing letting go and rejecting
of that same craving what are you doing
every time music's are
go of crazy
this is called the cessation of
personality by the Blessed One lady the
way leading to the cessation of
personality the way leading to the
cessation of personality is that what is
the way leading to the cessation of
personality by the Blessed One friend
visakha is just as Noble Eightfold Path
that is harmonious perspective
harmonious imaging harmonious
communication harmonious movement
harmonious lifestyle our money is
practice harmonious observation and
harmonious collectiveness
lady is that clinging the same has these
five aggregates affected by tangy or is
clinging something apart from the five
aggregates affected by craving teeny
friend visakha that clinging is neither
the same as the five aggregates affected
by craving and claiming nor is claiming
something apart from the five aggregates
affected by craving and clingy it is the
desire the lust in regard to the five
aggregates affected by craving and
clinging that is the clinging here
lady how does personality you come to be
here friend a nun Todd ordinary person
who has no regard for the noble ones is
unskilled and undisciplined in their
gamma who has no regard for true men and
is unskilled and undisciplined in their
Dhamma regards material form as self or
self as possessed of material form or
material form as in self or self as in
material form he regards feeling as self
or self as possessed a feeling or
feeling as in self herself as in feeling
he regards perception is self or self as
possessed of perception or perception as
in South for self as in perception he
regards formations as self or self as
possessed of formations or formations as
in self or self as informations he
regards consciousness as self or self as
possessed of consciousness or as
consciousness as in self for self as in
consciousness that is how personality
view comes to be get it
lady how does personality view not come
to be good question here friend visakha
well Todd Noble disciple who has regard
for noble ones and a skilled and
disciplined in their Dhamma who has
regard for true men and his guild and
disciplined in their Dhamma does not
regard material form as self or self as
possessed of material form or material
form as in self for self as in material
form he does not regard feeling as self
for self as possessed of feelings or
feeling as in self or self as in feeling
he does not regard perception as self or
self as possessed of perception for
perception as in self or self as in
perception he does not regard formations
as self or self as possessed of
formations or formations as in self
herself as informations he does not
regard consciousness as self or self as
possessed of consciousness or
consciousness as in self or self as in
consciousness that is how personality
view does not come to be lady what is
the Noble Eightfold Path friend visakha
it is just this noble
a fold path that is harmonious
perspective you remember what harmonious
perspective is seeing everything as
being in person
you see everything as being impersonal
when you see everything is being in
personal num seen this man
when you see everything as part of an
impersonal process there is no
attachment when you see everything has
an impersonal process there is no cream
and then one is in the universal
consciousness one can say no and it is
such a big think I'd know drugs being
and dance in a white bean not from the
not making a proprietor always to
everything work to feeling and craziness
again controls actually much to see it
as an input as
universal energy on which we all hang in
there are small at launching
yeah so oh my god me still experience
it's creepy
they still cling to things and they
still have a tiny bit of crazy
they still have pride thinking that
they're really special because they're
they're who they are
they still have ignorance ignorance
means not seeing the Four Noble Truths
what is a second noble truth the origin
of suffering what is the origin of
suffering crees so there's small amount
that doesn't actually disappear until
you become an hour then you get to come
with me to Missouri State da medina oh
my god I'm sorry I'm sorry I didn't mean
they 100 in the file okay so
restlessness can occur completely
without without lost or heat yes
well the thing is when when lust and
hatred are still within the hindrances
don't they don't come up on each time
they like to gain up and keep you in
your down right so they did they like a
the lust for something with restlessness
it's planning right I really like to
plan this is great stuff there's two
hindrances right there and with a
version
restless comes up I don't like this I
want it to stop so you have two
entrances right there but 16 art takes
care of them all resolution is Prince
abroad her governess many of the
hindrances to me can attack on us yes
they do Richard a cat digging good son
so far none agami there's just like a
lot of movement I wouldn't say a lot I
mean not having less than hate cuts down
a lot of movement and your mind is
exceptionally clear because you don't
have these things clouding you at all
but can they still get restlessness yes
and eat and they still get slot than
tour forget they don't get slot they get
torque
they do have periods of very short
periods of time when they can have a
little dull or they might have a very
small amount of restlessness for right
but it's not going to be overwhelming
like it is right now for all of us okay
somebody knows that but yeah yeah so
when you say they have you know last
major a version and desire now does that
mean that the propensity for it the or
that it's really present at all times no
it's not present at all soapy they come
up when one comes up there's the I like
it or I don't racket in it so it's a
propensity to be able to but what is
then eliminated is the seed of that the
clause for that to arise not completely
well in the arrived let's just say any
are not of course every all load fetters
are gone okay all there is to it but in
the on egami they still have a little
bit of craving and commune left so they
still have some attachment so you said
that we're having you know as we
practice the six hours these are in fact
cessations yes and so from and then
these stages these paths are seems to me
that attained you know 16 hour at a time
until they're sort of you know dropped
yeah they're basically are you dropping
these fetters right incremental e your
you're weakening and till they just are
so many thing fade away and
back
okay and that is because you keep 6rn
you start to get the sense of I go again
all the same time it did the magic cool
that there is night now but that's this
kind of starts to fade away absolutely I
just
no all this this is another whatever
thing coming up max don't get involved
with the story of it don't get involved
with your opinions whether it's good bad
or indifferent so let it be and relax
when you relax you've let go of the
gravy when you've let go of the craving
no clinging camp arrives
no thing you can arise your eventual
tendency dozen tonight when that doesn't
arise earth the birth of action doesn't
arise when that doesn't arise Adrian
death
so you want to be perpetually young
characteristics are very deep that's
young in mind not necessarily perpetual
young your body yeah I can vouch for
that so batta if I could just stick it
doesn't take one step with the few
people that I mean I don't I see older
people now who are yet friends of
parents that are mentally losing it
because they don't meditate or have
never meditated and they just really
don't know what goes on there like
delusional and these were people who
were successful in business and
everything and had a very fine working
mind at one time does meditation this
meditation in fact create a level of
awareness where that doesn't happen well
that's kind of tricky because some of it
is physical things p generation yeah its
physical degeneration but it's a lot of
it comes from the kinds of foods that we
put in our body and you wear deodorant
that has
and then gets into your system and that
starts affecting your mind and a very
are you you drink fluoride in your water
or you use for right in your toothpaste
these are going to affect you later on
in life in a very negative way and that
is the start of the degeneration of mind
but when you eat healthy food and you
practice meditation then did you notice
tunku lucido when he was in his mid 90s
before he died yeah I had an interview
with him I was kind of blown away she
got big shark mine sure cuz he was agile
yeah yeah it just was some ancient man
and he's just bouncing around he didn't
have a large command of English but he
was it was very inspiring oh yeah and
that's what the meditation can do for
you but you have to do it in a balanced
way with the way that you're living and
this part is part of right idly the
right lifestyle
you know I really think not too long ago
that there was a lot of women that were
starting to get both breast cancer and
thyroid cancer and they found out the
cause of that was from the black dye
that we're putting in their hair
when you have that kind of physical
problem it is going to affect the way
you think whether you like to believe it
or not so it's it's kind of a tricky
question that you're asking because it
all depends on not just the factor
that's the mental factor it's the fact
that's body factor too and what has been
put into the body so that would affect
the cognitive ability shirking that kind
of stuff got it the district our memory
oh you got we're making your own karma
by using these kind of things that are
not good for your body right okay so
getting back to the Eightfold Path I was
at a meditation center doing one month
retreat and somebody at the end of the
retreat asked the monk that was teaching
why did the Buddha always talk about
right view first and
my answer is that it is the aspect of
seeing everything as in person and
that's really important aspect that's
why its first and this monk said with a
smirk because that's what the Buddha did
he didn't have a clue
but the whole point of of the meditation
is to see that everything is in fact
just an impersonal process and to
realize that is the goal to realize that
for yourself
okay then we have harmonious imaging
what kind of an image do you hold in
your mind is it harmonious imaging or
unharmonious imagery what does that mean
one of the best examples is money and
talk to some people and they they tell
you that they never have enough money
they're always broke and that's the kind
of image that they hold for themselves
and the universe being the universe that
it is makes it so because that's the
kind of image they hold in your mind all
the time people that are very badly
overweight you talk to them about them
gay they're being overweight and you see
that that's the kind of image that they
hold for themselves well I've been like
this my whole life there's nothing I can
do about it and they keep on holding
this image of being fat and as a result
they eat a lot of things they shouldn't
eat and that makes it makes them back
and they eat in a way that they
shouldn't eat almost every fat person
that you ever see when they chew their
food they chew it once or twice and
swallow
this causes body to get that it's real
hard on the digestion real hard in a lot
of ways the Buddha it is said in the
suit does that whenever he ate food
there wasn't one grain of rice that
wasn't masticated in other words chewed
before he's followed try slowing down
and chewing your food until it turns to
liquid in your mouth and all of a sudden
he'll start noticing how much more
healthy feel it's really amazing and the
Buddha also said that you want to eat
until your stomach is half full
take a quarter for water and leave a
quarter for air and that's how you stay
healthy of course it does take some
decent food
but that's all they had during the time
of the Buddha they had organic food so
what kind of an image do you hold you
hold an image of yourself as being a
successful meditator or an image of
yourself of not being able to understand
or an image of yourself I know it all
what kind of an image do you hold about
yourself that's what the universe gives
to you and when you hold the view that
everything that arises is impersonal
that image will help you to get off of
the wheel of anybody
I believe that thank you okay now we
come to harmonious communication who do
you communicate most with are you nice
to yourself or not there is no such a
thing as try their own is either do or
don't do no track I love you to further
and a good question to ask yourself is
do I like myself right now yeah
am I happy
and if you're not then don't hold on to
being unhappy love yourself let go of
the critical thoughts about what you
think is right
I've said this a couple times during the
retreat but you do 25 things in a day
that are absolutely brilliant that
helped many many people and do one thing
that your mind says was wrong what do
you think about so why don't you start
thinking about the right
when I was in Malaysia there was one man
that he was really negative he was
continually anything he said it came out
negative and finally and told him that
he had to sit down with a piece of paper
and a pen and he had to write down five
things that he really liked about
himself it took him over an hour and
then when he did that he came to me and
I said oh good do five more and when he
came back I said now look at that list
and feel that feel each one of these
things and reflect on how you you are
when you do these things and how you you
start appreciating yourself for being
like this and they said okay when you
get done with that then I want you every
day to make a new list ten qualities
that you really like in yourself can't
repeat do that for a week and what
happens is you start not only looking at
yourself with kindly eyes you start
looking at those qualities and other
people and it really is kind of a fun
practice
try it
I want to see your list then we have
harmonious movement and harmonious
movement is how you treat yourself and
your mind are you jerking yourself
around are you trying to force things
away by this kind of movement stop them
from happening or are you in harmony
with the movement without doing things
too fast without doing them too slow
seeing and letting go of the things that
we get attached letting them be
unplug
okay then we have right lifestyle
harmonious lifestyle and then harmonious
practice harmonious mindfulness and
harmonious collectiveness the harmonious
lifestyle is how are you living are you
living in harmony or are you not that
means with everything around you with
everyone around you are you being in
harmony are you living with harmony and
harmony with yourself
are you living in a way that is
uplifting
that helps not only you with other
people around you
the harmonious practice is the six ours
the harmonious mindfulness is your
observation power and the collectiveness
is having a mind that's calm collected
composed and
still
I had a question yeah suggestion you had
earlier would it be best to make these
lists in the morning or evening it's
just your choice but i want to see him
when you get that
how is practice and collective go to get
it from Ramona is practice is the six RS
the collectiveness is the result of the
harmonious practice
lady is this noble eightfold path
conditioned or unconditioned what do you
think James friend visakha the Noble
Eightfold Path is conditioned lady are
the three aggregates included by the
Noble Eightfold Path or is the Noble
Eightfold Path included by the three
aggregates the three aggregates are
talking about wisdom morality
concentration the three aggregates are
not included in Noble Eightfold Path
friend visakha but the Noble Eightfold
Path is included by these three
aggregates this is where I get into
problems with monks that are scholars
okay right speech right action and right
livelihood these states are included in
the aggregate of virtue when they're
talking about meditation they tell you
don't even have to pay attention to
these three aggregates because we're
already doing but as you saw by the
definitions I was just giving you a
peephole path it all relates to the
meditation so we go round and round with
that so you want to keep teaching a five
fold path not an Eightfold Path if you
say that the that the virtue is isn't
necessary because it's automatic I've
never
any part of the Eightfold Path to be
truly automatic right effort right
mindfulness when ranked collectiveness
these states are included in the
aggregate aggregate of concentration
right view and rights imaging these
states are included in the aggregate of
wisdom now we're going to be talking
about concentration but I don't like to
use that word because it's so
misunderstood so I change this to
collectiveness lady what is collected
pneus what is the basis of
collectiveness what is the equipment of
collectiveness what is the development
of collectiveness unification of minds
of bringing together and staying on your
object to meditation friend misaka is
collected pneus the four foundations of
mindfulness are the basis of
collectiveness the four right kinds of
striding six ours
are the equipment of collectiveness
listen closely the repetition
development and cultivation of these
same states is the development of
collected nasteria ok how much
repetition do you do with the 6rz a few
times ok now we're going to talk about
the formations lady how many formations
are there there are these three
formations Busacca friend Osaka the
bodily formation the verbal formation
and the mental formation but lady what
is the bodily formation what is the
verbal formation what is the mental
formation in breathing and out breathing
friend visakha are the bodily formation
thinking and examining thought are the
verbal formation perception feeling and
consciousness are the mental formation
yeah so the girl information stop at
second down
while you're in meditation yes but does
it stop you from talking outside of the
meditation
already
in and out breath
there is one whose kids huh I'm sorry oh
isn't now what is only in and now friend
because that's nothing
what other things do you want it to
include
um
does it doesn't see it doesn't mean if a
the actual action of the body
you can't live unless you're breathing
in Oh best weapon
but it does not refer to breeding in
economy
oh now listen to this why are in
breathing and out breathing the bodily
formation why are thinking and examining
thought the verbal formation why our
perception feeling and consciousness the
mental formation friend Busacca in
breathing and out breathing our bodily
these states these are states bound up
with the body that is why in breathing
and out breathing are the bottling
formation got it
first one thinks and examines thought
and subsequently one breaks out into
speech that is why thinking and
examining thought are the verbal
formation perception feeling and
consciousness are mental these are
States bound up with mind that is why
perception feeling and consciousness are
mental formation attaining cessation
lady how does the attainment of
cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness come to be friend bussaco
when a monk is attaining the cessation
of perception feeling in consciousness
it does not occur to him I shall attain
the cessation of perception feeling in
consciousness or I am attaining the
cessation of perception feeling of
content consciousness or I have attained
the cessation of perception dealing
unconsciousness but rather his mind has
previously been developed in such a way
that it leads him to that state
hey you got it understand it okay lady
when a monk is attaining the cessation
of perception feeling and consciousness
which state sees in him first the bodily
formation of verbal formation or the
mental formation friend Busacca when a
monk is attaining the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness
first the valve verbal formation cease
then the bodily formation and the mental
formation that's the order of the CC
lady how does emergence from the
attainment of the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness
come to be how do you get out of the
state friend Masako when a monk is
emerging from the attainment of the
cessation of perception feeling in
consciousness it does not occur to him I
shall emerge from the attainment of the
cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness or I'm emerging from the
attainment of the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness or
I have emerged from the attainment of
the cessation feeling of consciousness
but rather his mind has previously been
developed in such a way that him it
leads into that state so what happens
when you steal or when you experience
the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness you
will be in that state for a little while
the first time that happens let's take
my last five minutes ten minutes
something like that not very long and
then we'll come out by itself and then
because your mind is so pure they had no
perception no feeling and no
consciousness at that time that is why
you're able to see the links of
dependent origination how they arise and
how they cease all of these are
conditions one thing conditions another
when it comes to the cessation when this
doesn't arise that won't arise when that
won't arise this one or right and you
come down to the formations and finally
you see the cessation of the Four Noble
Truths you see the cessation of
ignorance now there's no more conditions
you've seen all the conditions and you
let them go that's how your mind gets
into the pumpkin
you've let go of all of these concepts
and then you get to the place of no
concepts that is the unconditioned state
that is Nevada how work
now there's actually three paths that
you can take to attain me but first you
have to get to the 4th job that's the
start of it if your mind is very
intelligent but not particularly
sensitive to feeling then you go through
all of the our pajamas and the cessation
of perception and feeling and then
seeing dependent origination in the
bottom that's one way if your mind is it
can be intelligent but not particular
but very particularly sensitive to
feeling this is when psychic abilities
start happening and they happen by
themselves
but the last of the psychic abilities is
the cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness and then seeing dependent
origination and
but then the last way of attaining this
is by getting to the 4th jhana
remembering past lifetimes then
this is where you develop the divine
here in the divine I you start visiting
beings in other realms you see they're
passing away and arising from one won't
realm to another and you can talk to
them and you can find out what they've
been doing in their last few lifetimes
and why they're in this realm whether
it's a heavenly realm or brahmaloka or a
day belocca doesn't matter it can be a
hell realm it can be a hungry ghosts
realm it can be any of these realms what
happens is you start to see dependent
origination of rising in them and you
see how it works and then there is the
cessation of perception and dealing then
you actually see this and then you
attain nirvana
now the thing is of these three paths
the one that I call the fast track is
the way that the Buddha did was called
in poly is called tbj nidra as wisdom
teaches three this is the three wisdoms
so you're seeing past lives you're
seeing a rata passing away and rising of
beings and different realms in you're
seeing it dependent origination Endicott
that way
many monks practice that way during the
time
I prefer to teach going through all of
the jobs and going through the aruba
johns mostly because people in America
are incredibly intelligent
and it takes a good 5 to 10 years to
develop peace I haven't
spontaneous happening it takes a lot of
work to develop the skill to be able to
fly in the air or read other person's
mind walk through walls and things like
that dive into the earth
and you think that the up ray of the
western line has a lot to do with that
intellect
you know I i I've considered this a lot
and haven't really come up with an
answer yet we learn in a lot different
way than the Asians burn the Asians do
things for repetitious and that could
have a lot to do with their sensitivity
to feeling and also there they have very
much stronger family ties and that could
have something to do with their
sensitive to feelings you know I've seen
Asian families where the youngest son
was forty-five years old still living at
home and it wasn't because he was lazy
he was going out working all the time he
could live by himself but his family
wanted him close and he got married and
he took us his wife and moved into them
I mean she moved into the family too
that doesn't happen in America so much
we're taught to be more quote
independent and I think that might have
something to do with the lack of
sensitivity to I mean when you give with
a group of people and you live with them
on for a long period of time you can
each other's thinking right but in our
country what what we're encouraged to do
is when you get out of high school get
out of the house and then then you lose
that possibility of having that
sensitivity and that's kind of a problem
I suspect in the last two a lot has to
do with sensitive Questor enlightenment
with the rise of science and the whole
kind of objective thinking really
suppressed a lot of wise leaders in the
other way of thinking that's it was
poured out on the best up until about
1700s and still run out of cultures
the other ones
well you know what you think and ponder
on what we're taught to think and ponder
on is science and not spirituality and
not sensitivity we're not taught to have
that come up as much as it could yeah I
also think subcultures are more luck
worrying and others are more ripe berry
but that that comes from a variety of
different reasons and one of the biggest
one is the family and the small villages
without the flashing lights and loud
music and things of the city I mean when
I went out into Burma and I started
teaching meditation in Burma I was
completely shocked at how fast everybody
caught on I mean in a week or ten days
they were gay and it wasn't this kind of
meditation that I was teaching I was
teaching the casa de and they were
getting into in 10 days they were
getting into Sanka Rebecca equanimity
two formations and that's very deep in
10 days
you know not bad
but it wasn't just one person I mean
this was like at this one village I went
to there must have been 15 people that
took the retreat in 10 of them got to
that state it was amazing and having a
small village living in a small
community where you can share where you
can me where you're completely secure
that helps opening up the ability to get
into the other parts of the brain but
because we live where the way we do in
the and how we do with the electronic
age and if you have to wait for two
minutes for your computer to do
something you're pounding and say god
this is slow i wish you to hurry up but
somebody that lives on the farm they're
not doing that they just say okay yes
and then they'll sit there has been a
date for a minute or two it's no big
deal so it's all in the way that we
perceive and the way that we live
so after cessation apparently from the
description of the sea scene of the
bodily formations the in and out breath
the breath itself would cease for the
eris Luke I'm so it's done there's no
breathing for five or ten minutes and a
body that is experiencing sensation
breath goes through the years happen it
happens by itself the the actual thing
that happens is your heartbeat slows
down it doesn't completely stopped but
it slows down to like two or three a
minute oh so there's not enough of need
for oxygen at that time so it's almost a
nap close close you'll get to see that
in okay hold on boy let me just finish
my question so that it would follow that
when these formations realized that they
would arise in the reverse order in the
facies to see that just
okay lady when a monk is emerging from
the attainment of the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness
which states arise in him first bodily
formation verbal formation or mental
formation friend visakha when a monk is
emerging from the attainment of the
cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness first the mental formation
arises then the bodily formation arises
then the verbal formation arises lady
when a monk has emerged from the
attainment of the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness how
many kinds of contact touch him bread
moussaka when a monk has emerged from
the attainment of the cessation of
perception feeling of dealing in
consciousness three kinds of contact
touch him voidness contact sign lyst
contact and desireless contact
that's what you experience while you're
in that cessation of perception feeling
and consciousness lady when a monk is
emerged from the attainment of the
cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness to what does his mind
inclined to what does it lead to what
does it tend friend hosaka when a monk
has emerged from the attainment of the
cessation of perception feeling in
consciousness his mind inclines to
seclusion leans to seclusion tends to
seclusion don't feel like did you feel
like sitting just being by yourself not
popping out say hey now you do today
that's what silence contact there are
you know what a sign is you don't know
what assignments inhibitor
but silence contact means that there is
no disturbance there is no signs and
features coming up in your in your mind
why because there's no perception
there's no feeling there's no
consciousness so there is no sign that's
why it's assignments okay and the was it
the link would what is what is the void
pneus it means that there is nothing
that arises at that time
it is void of everything that can
possibly arise
lady how many kinds of feeling are there
from the sakha there are three kinds of
feeling pleasant feeling painful feeling
and neither painful or pleasant feeling
but lady what is pleasant feeling what
is painful feeling what is neither
painful more pleasant feeling friend
bussaco whatever is felt bodily or
mentally as pleasure as pleasant and
soothing is pleasant feeling whatever is
felt bodily and mentally as painful and
hurting is a painful feeling whatever is
felt bodily or mentally as neither
soothing nor hurting is neither painful
nor pleasant feeling lady what is
pleasant and what is painful in regard
to pleasant feeling what is painful and
what is pleasant in regard to painful
feeling what is pleasant and what is
painful in regard to neither painful
more pleasant feelings friend this acha
pleasant feeling is pleasant when it
persists and painful when it changes
right
we've been sitting long enough to
recognize that as being true remember
painful feeling is painful when it
persists and pleasant when it changes is
that right neither painful more pleasant
feeling is pleasant when there is
knowledge of it and painful when there
is no knowledge of it okay so neither
either painful my pleasantest actually
pleasant
when you know that it's there and what
is that actually referring to its
referring to when you have neither
painful more pleasant feeling it is
pleasant when you have equanimity and
when you do not it is not blessed in
other words your mindfulness is is
caught up with indifference and it's
very weak so you don't really recognize
this and that in itself causes you to
get caught up in your thinking and your
your your whole situation with what
you're thinking about and that sort of
thing so it's boring an example of that
absolutely go through it
boredom is a great sign it is absolutely
one of the best signs that you can have
when you're meditating when you said go
through it explain 6rf allowed to be
who's bored but same with indifference
yes that's Matt that's Matt festive
tourism for them or can be I suppose it
can or not but boredom is is a great
sign I love to see it when people have
it
it's a sign of your development
it's a sign that you're working
and you're repeating something over and
over and over again and you're bored
with it who's bored
whose attack all you need to do is let
go that very simple thing six art and on
the other side of that is something good
okay
Jessica laughs at all you want to
so that in the same category as
disenchantment and a difference that's a
lesser category of it but it's getting
there that's it lady what underlying
tendency underlies pleasant feeling what
underlying tendency underlies painful
feelings
what underlying tendency underlies
neither painful nor pleasant feeling
friendly saka the underlying tendency to
lust underlies being a pleasant feeling
the underlying tendency to aversion
underlies painful feeling the underlying
tendency to ignorance underlies the
neither painful more pleasant feeling
lady does the underlying tendency to
lust underlie all pleasant feeling does
the underlying tendency to aversion
underlie all painful feeling does the
underlying tendency to ignorance
underlie all neither painful more
pleasant feeling Brenda Sokka the
underlying tendency to lust is not
underlie all paid pleasant feeling the
underlying to tendency the underlying
tendency to aversion does not underlie
all painful feeling the underlying
tendency to ignorance does not underlie
all neither painful more pleasant
feeling lady what should be abandoned in
regard to pleasant feeling what should
be abandoned in regard to painful
feeling what should be abandoned and
regard to neither painful more pleasant
feeling Brenda Sokka the underlying
tendency to lust should be abandoned in
regard to pleasant feeling so the
underlying tendency to lust means to be
let go of when there is a pleasant
feeling right
six are that pleasant feeling the
underlying tendency to aversion should
be abandoned in regard to painful
feeling how many people here do that
underlying tendency
the aversion of the painful feeling
Joe heads nobody some anyway the
underlying tendon its tendency to
ignorance should be abandoned in regard
to neither painful nor pleasant feeling
lady does the underlying tendency to
lust have to be abandoned in regard to I
just read that okay does the underlying
tendency to lust have to be abandoned in
regard to all pleasant feeling does the
underlying tendency to aversion have to
be abandoned in regard to all painful
feeling does the underlying tendency to
ignorance have to be abandoned in regard
to all neither painful more pleasant
feeling friends Osaka the underlying
tendency to lust does not have to be
abandoned in regard to all pleasant
feeling the underlying tendency to
aversion does not have to be abandoned
in regard to all painful feeling the
underlying tendency to ignorance does
not have to be abandoned in regard to
neither painful or pleasant feeling here
friend visakha quite secluded from
sensual pleasures secluded from
unwholesome states among enters upon an
abides in the first round which is
accompanied by thinking and examining
thought with joy and happiness born of
seclusion with that he abandons lust and
the underlying tendency to lust does not
underlie that
then that doesn't that statement right
there doesn't that say that you don't
become attached to Jonas doesn't it yeah
that was pretty good job with it here's
your argument right I remember that 128
suit too wordy war-era monk considers
thus when shall I enter upon and abide
in the base that the noble ones now
entering upon and abide in in one who
thus generates a longing for the supreme
liberation brief arises with that long
with that he abandons a version in the
underlying tendency to aversion and does
not underlie that here with the
abandoning of pleasure and pain with a
previous disappearance of joy and grief
amok enters upon and abides in the 4th
jhana which has neither pain nor
pleasure and purity of mindfulness duty
equanimity with that he abandons
ignorance and the underlying tendency to
a tendency to ignorance does not
underlie that by underlying by
abandoning ignorance what he's talking
about is developing equanimity
lady what is the counterpart of pleasant
feeling friend asanka painful feeling is
the counterpart of pleasant feeling what
is the counterpart of painful feeling
pleasant feeling is a counterpart of
painful feeling what is the counterpart
of neither painful more pleasant feeling
ignorance is the counterpart of neither
painful more pleasant feeling what is
the counterpart of ignorance true
knowledge is a counterpart of excuse me
ignorance what is the counterpart of
true knowledge deliverance is the
counterpart of true knowledge what is
the counterpart of deliverance Nibhana
is the counterpart of deliverance lady
what is the counterpart of Nibhana
friend moussaka you have pushed this
line of questioning too far
you were not able to grasp the limit to
the questions for the holy life friend
Vaisakhi merges in Nibhana culminates in
nevada and ends in the bottom if you
wish friend Busacca go to the blessed
one and ask him about the meaning of
this as the blessed one explains it to
you you should remember it then lady the
Leigh follower visakha having delighted
and rejoiced in New bhikkhuni da
Medina's words rose from his seat and
after paying homage to her keeping her
on the right he went to the blessed one
after paying homage to him he sat down
at one side and told the blessed one his
entire conversation with the Baku need a
medina when he fished finish speaking
the blue the blessed one told him the
Baku need a medina is wise the Baku
needa Medina has great wisdom if you had
asked me the meaning of this I would
have explained it to you in the same way
that the Baku need a medina has
explained it such is its meaning and so
you should remember it that is what the
Blessed ones that the way power of
Hassakeh was satisfied and delight
in the Blessed ones words the thing with
Baku need a medina which she was
foremost in expounding the dump of all
of the because he was really good one we
really understood it and she could say
it to you in a way that she'd understand
okay daddy questions we've been asking
questions all the time yeah that was
this waiting for the answer for this and
we're sitting show Coughlin when he said
the honor when she said the underlying
County where Las does not have to be
abandoned in regard to all puzzles right
getting into drama
ok so the joy that arises in the channel
not have to be a man but
so on it's all pervasive yeah that's
right this is one of the Enlightenment
factors
let's see if I can throw this out there
navona is unconditional and the bonnet
creek you can have navona become a soda
pop and become socketed Elmo on the
downy bird however it seems like it is
the lower ones until your air hot it is
not a fun conditioned state because
there is craving at certain points with
those certain feds know now while you're
in it it is unconditioned when you come
out of it because you haven't you
haven't gone deep enough when you come
out of it those conditions and the right
so it's that state accessible once
you've before East sort of on a second
egami time ago it's what state navona
decision can't obtain it if you don't
but can they repeatedly accessible
easily only the Nibhana is only
experienced twice by each of those
states ok it's only experienced twice
they can get into the cessation of
perception and dealing if you are on
agami for an are hot many times but you
will not
you will not see dependent origination
which you cannot know
so why do it really
you think you have relief now with a
little bit of stillness of my think
about students being able to sit for
seven days without having your mind move
without even having consciousness
I'll check
and don't not while you're in that state
you have to make a determination to come
out of that state
in another suit
okay we start talking about the by
faculties this is the suitor right
before this suit 243 we're going to
section 21 the PI bakal t friend these
five faculties each have a separate
field a separate domain and do not
experience each other's field and domain
that is the I faculty year faculty nose
faculty tug faculty and body faculty now
these five faculties each have a
separate field a separate domain not
experiencing each other's field or
domain what is it talking about you know
here through your eyes you don't smell
through your through your ears they each
have their own their own realm each of
these by faculties what is their resort
what experience is their field and
domains friend these five faculties each
have a separate field as separate domain
and do not experience each other's field
and though
that is the I faculty year faculty those
faculty ton faculty and Biden faculty
now these five faculties each have a
separate field and a separate domain not
experiencing each other's build and
don't mean they have mine as their
resort and mind experiences their fields
and domains okay
friend as to these five faculties that
is the eye ear nose tongue body faculty
what do these five faculty stand in
dependence on friend as to these five
faculties that is the eye ear nose
tongue and body faculties by faculty
stand in dependence on vitality okay
Fred what does vitality stand in
dependence on vitality stands in
dependence on heat friend what does heat
stand in dependence on your gonna love
this answer he stands in dependence on
vitality just now friend we understood
the venerable sorry booted to have said
vitality stands and dependence on heat
and now we understand him to say he
stands in dependence on vitality how
should the meaning of this statement be
regarded think it's a good question in
that case friend I shall give you
assembly for some wise men here
understand the meaning of a statement by
means of assembly just as when an oil
lamp is burning its radiance is seen in
dependence on its flame and its flame is
seen in dependence on its radiance
one without the other right here
dependent on each other
so to vitality stands and dependence on
heat and heat stands in dependence on
vitality ok friends are vital formation
states of feeling or are vital
formations one thing in states of
feeling another vital formations friend
is not our vital formations friend are
not states of feeling if bio formations
were states of healing then when a monk
has entered upon the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness he
would not be seen to emerge from it ok
because vital formations are one thing
and states of feeling another when a
monk is entered upon the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness
here he can be seen to emerge from it
friend when this body is to be reaped of
how many states is it then discarded
forsaken left lying senseless like a log
friend when this body is bereaved of
three states vitality heat and
consciousness it is then discarded and
forsaken left senseless like like a love
that means dying friend what is the
difference between one who is dead and
one who has completed his time in a monk
who has entered upon the cessation of
perception feeling and consciousness
friend in the case of one who is dead
who has completed his time his bodily
formation subsea stand subsided his
verbal formations have ceased and
subsided his mental formations have
ceased and subsided his vitality is
exhausted his heat has been dissipated
and his faculties are fully broken up in
the case of a monk who has entered upon
the cessation of perception and feeling
and consciousness his bodily formations
have seized and subsided his verbal
formations have ceased and subsided his
mental formations have ceased and
subsided but his
eyetality is not exhausted his heat has
not been dissipated and his faculties
become exceptionally clear this is the
difference between one who is dead and
one who and who has completed his time
and a monk who is entered upon the
cessation of perception feeling and
consciousness so when yours when you're
in the cessation of perception feeling
and and consciousness you still have the
heat in your body and you still have
vitality in your body that will last for
seven days at the most
now getting out of that state you have
to make a determination before you go
into that state that means when you are
on agami all right I've talked to some
of you a little bit about learning how
to develop mastery of going in and out
of the Javas this is learning how to
develop your determinations so when you
get to be an auto gommi and you make a
determination it will happen the way you
want so you make a determination well
I've got six and a half days and then I
have to do something so you make the
determination to go in and out of the
