this this course tonight is on right
view or harmonious perspective thus have
I heard on one occasion the blessed one
was living in sawatya in Jettas bro
anathapindika spark there the venerable
sariputta addressed the monks thus
friends friends monks friend they
replied the venerable sorry put us at
this one of right view one of right view
is said friends in what way is a noble
disciple one of right view whose view is
straight who has perfect confidence in
the Dhamma and has arrived at this true
dama indeed friend we should come from
far away to learn from the venerable
sorry put to the meaning of this
statement it would be good it's our the
venerable sariputta would explain the
meaning of this statement having heard
it from him the MOX will remember it
then friends listen and a tempest lead
to what I shall say yes friend the monks
replied the venerable sariputta said
this when friends and noble disciple
understands the unwholesome and the root
of the unwholesome the wholesome and the
root of the wholesome in that way he is
one of right view who
is straight who has perfect confidence
in the Dhamma and has arrived at this
true Dharma and what friends is the
unwholesome what is the root of the
unwholesome what is the wholesome what
is the root of the wholesome killing
living beings is unwholesome taking what
is not given is unwholesome misconduct
and sexual pleasures is unwholesome
false speech is unwholesome malicious
speech is unwholesome harsh speech is
unwholesome gossip is unwholesome
covetousness is unwholesome ill-will is
unwholesome wrong view is unwholesome
this is called the unwholesome and what
is the root of the unwholesome greed is
a root of the unwholesome hate is a root
of the unwholesome delusion is a root of
the unwholesome this is called the root
of the unwholesome what is the wholesome
abstention from killing living beings is
also abstention from taking what is not
given is wholesome abstention from
misconduct and sensual pleasures is also
abstention from false speech is also
abstention from malicious beach is
wholesome abstention from harsh Beach is
wholesome abstention from gossip is
wholesome uncover test pneus is also non
ill-will is wholesome right view is
wholesome this is called the wholesome
and what is the root of the wholesome
non greed is a
root of the wholesome non hate is a root
of the wholesome non delusion is a root
of the wholesome it's kind of
interesting that they talk about
delusion has been unwholesome and non
delusion is being wholesome what is
delusion
come on confirma big rooms no concept of
so taking things personal taking things
personally been a personal sustenance so
that's considered unwholesome anytime
you take anything to be i me mine and
take your thoughts you take your
feelings you take your concepts you take
your ideas and if you identify with
those as being yours personally that is
unwholesome this is why when we practice
the six hours it's such an amazing
system because you're letting go of the
craving you're letting go of the start
of that personality belief or that
personal belief and when you let it go
you see everything as being part of an
impersonal process and that's wholesome
agree
when a noble disciple has thus
understood the unwholesome the root of
the unwholesome the wholesome and the
root of the wholesome he entirely
abandoned Z abandons the underlying
tendency to lust he abolish is the
underlying tendency to aversion he extra
baits the underlying tendency to view
and conceit I am what is extra paid me
take down no he get rid of it uproot I
always got a had it had a chuckle when i
ran across the word extra pate that's
been so bigger Bodhi the first sentence
of that last part when the noble
disciple has this understood the
unwholesome when it's understood then
that abolish is it when you understand
that correctly that's what about
but he extra paints the underlying
tendency to view and conceit I am and by
abandoning ignorance and arousing true
knowledge he here and now makes an end
of suffering in that way to a noble
disciple is one of Red you whose view is
straight who has perfect confidence in
the Dhamma and has arrived at this true
Dhamma now we're going to talk a little
bit about nutriment saying good friend
the Mocs delighted and rejoiced in the
venerable sariputta swerts then they
asked him a further question but Fred
might there be another way in which a
noble disciple was one of right view and
has arrived at this true Dhamma there
might be friends when friends a noble
disciple understands nutriment the
origin of nutriment the cessation of
nutriment and the way leading to the
cessation of nutriment in that way he is
one of right view and has arrived at
this true dama and what is nutriment
what is the origin of nutriment the
cessation of neutral
in the way leading to the cessation of
nutriment there are four kinds of
nutriment for the maintenance of beings
that already have come to be for the
support of those seeking a new existence
what for they are physical food as
nutriment gross or so contact as the
second mental volition as the third and
consciousness as the fourth with the
arising of craving there is the arising
of nutriment now what did that mean when
you six are something you've let go of
the craving that means you're not going
to be feeding that mental state and
eventually that mental state will die
from starvation right if you don't give
it food now what's the actual food the
actual food is the clinging right but
before the cleans my attention rate
placed on it goodna nutriment also be
the purity of mind the experience of the
pure well mine
here
it kind of depends on whether craving is
there or not if there is no craving then
there is purity of mine yes because
there's no playing in habitual tendency
and all the other stuff understand
momentary solution of Christ's suffering
right so I guess in a way you could say
that is a kind of nutriment because
you're feeding the wholesome good point
with the arising of craving there is the
arising of nutriment with the cessation
of craving there is the cessation of
nutriment the way leading to the
cessation of nutriment is just this
noble eightfold path that is harmonious
perspective harmonious intention
harmonious communication harmonious
action harmonious lifestyle harmonious
practice harmonious observation in
harmonious collectiveness when a noble
disciple has thus understood nutriment
the origin of nutriment the cessation of
nutriment and the way leading to the
cessation of nutriment he entirely
abandons the underlying tendency to
greed he abolish is the underlying
tendency to aversion he extra baits the
underlying tendency to view and conceit
I am and by abandoning ignorance and
arousing true knowledge he here and now
makes an end of suffering in that way to
the noble disciple is one of right view
who's whose view is straight who has
perfect confidence in the Dhamma as a
right at this predominant saying good
friend the monks delighted and rejoiced
in the venerable sariputta swerves then
they ask him a further question but
friend might there be another way in
which a noble disciple is one of right
view and has arrived
there might be friends when friends a
noble disciple understand suffering the
origin of suffering the cessation of
suffering in a way leading to the
cessation of suffering in that way he is
one of right view and has arrived at
this true dama and what is suffering
what is the origin what is a cessation
what is the way leading to the cessation
birth is suffering aging is suffering
sickness is suffering death is suffering
sorrow lamentation ping grief and
despair are suffering not to be obtained
not to obtain what one wants is
suffering in short the five aggregates
affected by clinging or suffering this
is called suffering the five aggregates
are not necessarily suffering but when
they're affected by clinging they are
and what is the origin of suffering it
is craving which brings renewal of being
is accompanied by delight and lust and
delights in this and that that is
creating for sensual pleasures craving
for being craving for not being this is
called the origin of suffering what is a
cessation of suffering it is the
remainder is fading away and CC the
giving up relinquishing letting go and
rejection of that same cradle this is
called the cessation of craving it's
amazing how another Dhamma talks I say
the same thing isn't it and what is the
way leading to the cessation of
suffering is just this noble eightfold
path this is called the way leading to
this
zation of suffering when a noble
disciple has thus understood suffering
the origin of suffering the cessation of
suffering and way leading to the
cessation he here and now makes an end
of suffering in that way to a noble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this true Dhamma saying good
friend the monks delighted and rejoiced
in the venerable sariputta is words then
they ask him a further question but
friend might there be another way in
which a noble disciple is one of right
view and has arrived at this true Dhamma
there might be friends when friends a
noble disciple understands aging and
death the origin of aging and death the
cessation of aging and death in the way
leading to the cessation of Aging in
death in that way he is one of great
view and has arrived at this true dama
and what is aging and death what is the
origin what is this a station what is a
way leading to the cessation the aging
of beings in the various orders of
beings their old age brokenness of teeth
grayness of hair wrinkling of skin
decline of life weakness of faculties
this is called aging the passing of
beings out of the various orders of
beings they're passing away dissolution
disappearance dying
univ time the solution of the aggregates
laying down of the body this is called
death so this aging and this death are
what is called aging and death with the
arising of birth there is the arising of
aging and death with the cessation of
burst there is the cessation of aging
and death the way leading to the
cessation of aging and death is just
this noble eightfold path when the noble
disciple is less understood aging and
death the origin the cessation and way
leading to the cessation he here now
makes an end of suffering in that way to
a noble disciple is one of great view
and has arrived at this true dama now
you notice that we're starting from
aging and death and then going down to
ignorance that's kind of interesting
because this is the way to the cessation
this is how you have your right view and
this is also how you start ripping their
you start letting go of things when a
distraction arises and you recognize
that distraction you six are the
distraction come back to your object of
meditation if there is still attachment
then your mind goes back to that
distraction how did minds attention do
that what happened first what happened
after that what happened
after that what happened after that as
you become more familiar with how this
process works you start recognizing more
easily when the distraction arises and
you see something that happens right
before you could carry it away and you
let go of that then and then come back
to your object of meditation after six
or eight
you always have to come back to your
object of meditation that's how you
improve your mindfulness and by six are
in the distraction you are letting go of
the craving you're letting go of that
tension and tightness of that I am
conceit that is attached to everything
when you let that go smile come back to
your object to meditation if you still
haven't let go of that hindrance then
you simply wait until your attention is
pulled back to it and six are relaxed
smile come back to your object of
meditation before long you'll become
very familiar with that process and
you'll see something that arises right
before your mind would go to that
distraction so you let go again when you
see that you six are right then you
start having your mind spend more and
more time on your object meditation and
less and less time on the distraction
make this an automatic habit whatever
arises 6r come back to your object to
meditation the more it turns into a
habit the more clearly you see the whole
process
okay saying good friend a mop delight
the monks delighted and rejoiced in the
venerable sorry butas words then they
asked him a further question but friend
might there be another way in which
noble disciple is one of right view and
has arrived at this true Domhnall there
might be friends when friends a noble
disciple understands birth the origin of
birth the cessation of birth the way
leading to the cessation in that way he
is one of right view has arrived at this
true damo what is birth what is its
origin what is the cessation what is a
way leading to the cessation the birth
of beings in the various orders of
beings they're coming to birth
precipitation in alone generation
manifestation of the aggregates
obtaining the basis of contact this is
called birth when they are rising of
habitual tendency with the arising of
habitual tendency there is the arising
of birth with the cessation of habitual
tendency there is a cessation of birth
the way leading to the cessation of
birth is just as Noble Eightfold Path
now another thing that you might not
have realized is when you practice the
six ours you are practicing the
that that is the way leading to the
cessation of suffering why because
you're letting go of the craving and you
saw back here just a little bit ago that
that was that was the cause so you're
every time you practice the six hours
and let go of the distraction then you
are practicing the Eightfold Path
when a noble disciple has less
understood birth the origin of birth the
cessation of birth and away leading to
the cessation of birth he here now makes
an end of suffering in that way to a
noble disciple is one of harmonious
perspective it has arrived at this true
Dhamma saying good friend and the monks
delighted and rejoiced in the venerable
sorry food to his words then they ask
him a further question but friend might
there be another way in which a noble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this true dama there might be
friends when friends a noble disciple
understands be it understands the
Mitchell tendency the origin of habitual
tendency the cessation of habitual
tendency in the way leading to the
cessation in that way is one of
harmonious perspective and has arrived
at this true down and what is harmonious
our habitual tendency what is the origin
what is the cessation what is a way
leading to the cessation there are these
three kinds of habitual tendency since
sphere be habitual tendency fine
material habitual tendency and
immaterial habitual attended tendency so
they're talking about the SAT sphere
that's a human realm the material fine
material that is the Davy Lopes and the
Brahma lokas up to the 4th jhana and the
immaterial that is the group pajamas the
immaterial dramas and that's the last
four parts of the fourth job
with the arising of clinging there is
the rising of a patrol tendency with the
cessation of clinging there is a
cessation of the bitch'll tenancy the
way leading to the cessation is just as
Noble Eightfold Path then Noble when a
noble disciple has thus understood
habitual tendency the origin the
cessation and way leading to the
cessation here and now makes an end of
suffering in that way to a noble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this true Dhamma saying good
friend the Mocs delighted and rejoiced
in a venerable sariputta swerts then
they ask him a further question you'd
think that they would try to phrase it a
little differently after a while but
they don't but friend might there be
another way which a noble disciple is
one of right view and has arrived at
this true gamma and you think he might
answer in a little different way but he
doesn't there might be friends when
friends a noble disciple understands
cleaning the origin of clinging the
cessation of cleaning in the way leading
to the cessation of clinging in that way
is one of right view and has arrived at
this true dama what is clinging what is
the origin what is the cessation what is
a way leading to the cessation there are
four kinds of clinging clinging to
sensual pleasures clinging to views
clinging to rules and observances rites
and rituals clinging to the doctrine of
self with the arising of craving there
is the arai
using of clinging with the cessation of
craving there is a cessation of cleaning
the way leading to the cessation of
clinging is just as no only full bath
did you notice how when I talk about
clinging I I talk about views opinions
comes up stories all of those kind of
things I don't really talk too much
about roles and observations or
observances rites and rituals mostly
because in the West we don't have a
whole lot of rites and rituals and we
don't believe rites and rituals are
going to take us to Nevada in the east
they have those beliefs there's one form
of Buddhism where they just recite a
mantra over and over again and they have
the belief that when they die they will
be reborn in this fantastic heavenly
realm and from there they will attain
Nibhana all I have to do is recite this
mantra over and over and over and over
and over be nice if it was truth be easy
saying good friend the mocks delighted
and rejoiced and venerable sorry putas
words then they asked him a further
question but friend might there be
another way in which a noble disciple is
one of right view and as a ride at this
true Dhamma there might be friends when
friends a noble disciple understands
craving the origin of craving the
cessation of craving the way leading to
the cessation of craving in that way is
one of right view and has arrived at
this true dama what is craving what is
the origin what is the cessation what
it's a way leading to the cessation
there are these six classes of craving
craving for forms craving for sounds
craving for odours craving for flavors
craving for tangibles craving for mind
objects that pretty much sums up
everything there is about craving does
that with the arising of feeling there's
a arising of craving with the cessation
of feeling there is a cessation of
craving the way leading to the cessation
of craving is just this noble eightfold
path when a noble disciple as thus
understood craving the origin the
cessation and way leading to the
cessation he here and now makes an end
of suffering and that way to a noble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this true dama
so as we progress you're going to see
more and more clearly that when you let
go of one thing then all of the rest of
the things that have already been
mentioned won't arise saying good friend
the monks delighted and rejoice in the
venerable sorry Buddha's words then they
asked him a further question but friend
might there be another way in which a
noble disciple is one override you and
has arrived at this true Dhamma there
might be friends when friends a noble
disciple understands feeling the origin
the cessation and way leading to the
cessation of healing in that way he is
one of right view and as a riot at this
true gamma and what is feeling what is
the origin what is a cessation what is a
way leading to the cessation there are
these six glasses of feeling feeling
born of eye contact feeling born of ear
contact feeling born of nose contact
feeling born of tongue contact feeling
born of body contact feeling born of my
contact with the arising of contact
there is the arising of feeling with the
cessation of contact there is the
cessation of feeling the way leading to
the cessation of
is just this noble eightfold path when a
noble disciple is us understood feeling
the origin the cessation the way leading
to the cessation he here and now makes
an end of suffering in that way to a
noble disciple is one of harmonious
perspective and has arrived at this true
gamma saying good friend the monks
delighted and rejoiced in the venerable
sorry bhutas words when they asked him a
further question but friend might there
be another way in which a noble disciple
is one of right view and has arrived at
this true Dhamma there might be friends
when friends a noble disciple
understands contact the origin the
cessation in the way leading to the
cessation of contact in that way is one
of our Monet's perspective and has
arrived at this true dama and what is
contact what is the origin what is a
cessation was a way leading to the
cessation there are these six classes of
contact eye contact here contact nose
contact Tom contact body contact mind
contact with the arising of the six fold
base there is the arising of contact
with the cessation of the six hole base
there is the cessation of contact and
the way leading to the cessation of
contact is just this noble eightfold
path so every time you see any one of
these different links and you're able to
6r them and come
to your object to meditation you are
practicing right view and the info panel
that's why I talked about the
disturbance and the disturbances can be
any sense door doesn't really matter but
when your mind goes to it that's where
the disturbance is that movement of
Mines attention the more fluidly and
easily you catch that mines attention
moving and let it go the easier it is to
stay with your object of meditation
ah
saying good friend amongst delighted and
rejoiced in the venerable sorry pluto's
work then they asked a further question
but friends might there be another way
in which a noble disciple is one of
right view and has arrived at this true
Dhamma there might be friends when
friends and noble disciple understands
the six fold based the origin the
cessation in the way leading to the
cessation of the six whole base in that
way is one of right view better and has
arrived at this true dama now you see in
each one of these lengths how there is
the Four Noble Truths so they're very
intimately intertwined with the links of
dependent origination when you pull II
realize the Four Noble Truths you
realize dependent origination at the
same time
and what is the six-fold base what is
its origin what is a cessation what is a
way leading to the cessation there are
these six bases the I base t here base
the nose base the tongue base the body
based the mind base with the arising of
mentality materiality there is the
arising of the six-fold base with the
cessation of mentality materiality there
is the cessation of the 64 base the way
leading to the cessation of the six-fold
base is just this noble eightfold path
when a noble disciple has as thus
understood the sixth form at the origin
cessation and way leading to the
cessation he here and now makes an end
of suffering and that way to a noble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this true dominant saying
good friend monks delighted and rejoiced
in the venerable sorry putos words then
they ask him a further question but
friend might there be another way in
which a noble disciple is one of right
view and has arrived at this true Dhamma
there might be friends when friends a
noble disciple understands mentality
materiality the origin the cessation way
into this cessation in that way is one
of right view and has arrived at this
true dama and what is mentality
materiality what is the origin what is
the cessation what is a way leading to
the cessation feeling perception
volition contact attention these are
called mentality the four Great elements
and the material form derived from the
four Great elements these are called
materiality the contact in the mentality
is the connection between the mind and
body I got that contact is the
connection between mind and body
ok
so the the contact is is not body but it
is the connection to it and there is the
contact that we're talking about before
the are right after the six volt base
and then there's the contact that we're
talking about here with mentality and
materiality the first contact is more of
the grocer kind of contact and this
contact here is a very subtle one will
sustain decently a cup or the earlier
the second one dimension well this is
this is part of the mentality
materiality this is part of the number
rupa and the different parts of the the
nama feeling perception volition contact
attention and contact is is the link
that holds the to the mentality and the
materiality together after after the
mentality materiality then you start
going just into the mental realm now one
of the things that made the buddha's
teaching so amazing was when people were
practicing their one
absorption concentration they got into
mind and they didn't they didn't
recognize body at all they got into
their absorption so deeply that their
body just disappeared and the body and
the Buddha comes along and said there's
a connection here and when he gave us
the instruction to tranquilize on the
in-breath and tranquilize on the out
breath when you relax your body you
relax your mind when you relax your mind
you relax your body that connection is
real important and it's what you see
very clearly in your the summit of a
possitive meditation and you don't see
very clearly in the absorption
concentrate this is one of the reasons
that it's so hard for people that are
poor in absorption concentration to
understand dependent origination because
of this this mentality materiality link
oh okay saying good friend amongst
delighted in rejoiced in the venerable
sariputta is words then they asked him a
further question but friend might there
be another way in which a noble disciple
is one of right view and has arrived at
this true dama there might be when
friends a noble disciple understands
consciousness the origin the cessation
in the way leading to the cessation of
consciousness in that way is one a
bright view and has arrived at this true
donna what is consciousness what is the
origin what is a cessation what is a way
leading to the cessation there are these
six classes of consciousness I
consciousness ear consciousness nose
consciousness down consciousness body
consciousness and mind consciousness now
these six classes this at this
particular point is the potential for
them to arise but they have to have the
contact in order to arrest
with the arising of formations there is
the arising of consciousness with the
cessation of formations there is a
cessation of consciousness way leading
to the cessation of consciousness is
just this noble eightfold path when a
noble disciple as us understood
consciousness the origin Association in
the way leading to the cessation of
consciousness he here and now makes an
end of suffering and that way to a noble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this crude alma saying good
friend the monks delighted and rejoiced
in the venerable sorry Buddha's words
then they asked him a further question
do you have any idea what that might be
but friend might there be another way in
which a noble disciple is one of right
view and it's arrived at this tree dama
there might be friends when friends a
noble disciple understands formations
the origin the cessation in the way
leading to the cessation in that way he
is one of right view and has arrived at
this true download what our formations
what is the origin what is the cessation
what is a way leading to the cessation
there are these three kinds of
formations the bodily formation the
verbal formation the mental formation
with the arising of ignorance there is
the arising of formations with the
cessation of ignorance there is a
cessation of formations the way leading
to the cessation of formations is just
this mobile
full path when a noble disciple as s
understood formations the origin that's
the station the way leading to the
cessation here and now makes an end of
suffering in that way to ennoble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this true Dhamma saying go
ahead the monks delighted and rejoiced
in the venerable sorry putas words then
they asked him a further question but
friend might there be another way in
which a noble disciple is one of right
view and has arrived at this true Dhamma
there might be friends when friends are
noble disciple understands ignorance the
origin of ingram ignorance the cessation
of ignorance and the way leading to the
cessation of ignorance and that way is
one of right view and has arrived at
this true dumb and what is ignorance
what is the origin what is a cessation
what is a way leading to the cessation
not knowing about suffering not knowing
about the origin of suffering not
knowing about the cessation of suffering
not knowing about the way leading to the
cessation of suffering this is called
ignorance with the arising of the taints
there is the arising of ignorance with
the cessation of the tapes there is the
cessation of ignorance the way leading
to the cessation of ignorance is just
this Eightfold Path when a noble
disciple as us understood ignorance the
origin of ignorance the cessation of
ignorance and the way
to the cessation of ignorance here and
now makes an end of suffering and that
way to a noble disciple is one of right
view and has arrived at this true dhamma
saying good friend the monks delighted
in rejoices in the venerable sorry
Buddha's words then they asked him a
further question but friend might there
be another way in which a noble disciple
is one of right view whose view is
straight who has perfect confidence in
the Dom on this true donna there might
be friends when friends and noble
disciple understands the taints the
origin of the taints the cessation of
the taints and away leading to the
cessation of the taints in that way he
is one of right view whose view is
straight who has perfect confidence in
the domina's arrived at this true gamma
and what are the taints what is the
origin what is the cessation what is a
way leading to the cessation there are
these three taints the taint of sensual
desire the taint of being and the taint
of ignorance with the arising of
ignorance there is the arising of the
taints with the cessation of ignorance
there is the cessation of the taints the
way leading to the cessation of the
taints is just this no voting full path
now did you catch that
okay because we were just talking about
ignorance and what is the cause of
ignorance is the taints now we're
talking about the taints and they're
saying what the cause of the taints is
ignorance sensuality that the the taint
of where to go since there are three
taints the taint of sensual desire the
taint of being and the taint of
ignorance Chuck's have done that
ignorance is all this invisible isn't
that redundant because the ignorance is
the cause of ignorance what they are it
is a little redundant but they wanted to
get pinned attains to show you that they
these tanks are pretty deep seeded but
the way you let those two things is by
letting go of ignorance well it's still
a little hard to comprehend that the way
of letting go of ignorance is letting go
ignorance this ignorance everyone is a
way of letting go ignorance is by
letting go of the taints and wave
the taint is by letting go of ignorance
ignorance is one of the things would you
leave me alone should I answer it's not
necessary your talent will see the tank
ignorance is ignoring the dependent
origination so so say it that way and
see what happens but so is ignorance
ignorance as the first link but ignoring
the whole process what it is the same
when we are asking or talented you're
indebted of the swinging it unwholesome
evils for the see events what is hidden
one is green and the other one was hate
and the last is ignorance number last
revision it's why delusion what is that
kind of delusion delusion illusion is as
the belief in a personal salvation and
ignorance is not seeing the Four Noble
Truths yeah
there are there two kinds of ignorance
is their degrees and understanding the
Four Noble Truths I think so and they
are there is the big seeing of the four
noble truths and there is the subtle
seeing of the four noble truths and the
subtle seeing is the realization of the
Four Noble Truths so you can see the
four noble truths and you can really
understand them deeply but you haven't
quite reached the [ __ ] the
realization but i guess i'm not sure to
be quite honest but it sounds good that
also be the quick a quick recognition of
the immediate recognition of the absence
of the understanding of the four
the truth for they are really living
with us and the subtle aspect would be
that you kind of realize yeah yeah
that's kind of what I was saying here
yeah yeah and then that's the subtle one
yes and then there's the big one we are
there to straighten down enjoy well oh
but you start seeing the four noble
truths and all of the links and you see
the Four Noble Truths even in the
ignorance and you still have the tangle
and that's where the road you still have
the taint of the aprons and that's when
the realization comes yep there's a
taint of ignorance and then there's
ignorance yes sounds good I don't look
at the for neural chase if you were
going to teach a workshop on the
furniture is er you know would you just
under four noble truths you could spend
today talking about how they're the
blueprint of Investigation and they are
the four steps for investigating because
he proves it in his suit is over and
over and then you could spend the day
talking about how they are the links and
in each one of the links they exist in
the links and why and then
they are looked upon as many traditions
look upon them as four pieces of
information but they don't know what
that you were to say that and they can't
tell you either when you ask them what
does it mean if its core pieces of
information okay so talk to me about the
taint I mean that's where they're
realizing hey is the ignoring the tank
is not opening your eyes and minds
you've already let go of ignorance not
until because it's a continent like
those other side that's what it's saying
it's the content good friends the monks
delighted and rejoiced and sorry butas
works then they asked him a further
question but by their but friend might
there be another way another way in
which noble disciple is one of right
view who's new is straight who has
perfect confidence in the Dhamma and has
arrived at this true donna there might
be friends if you woke in your eyes when
friends and noble disciple understands
the taints the origin of the taints the
cessation of the taints in the way
leading to the cessation of the taints
in that way is one of right view whose
view it straight who has perfect
confidence in the Dhamma and has arrived
at this true doctor
the rosses is yes the residence of it
what are the tank is recognizing it now
this is really subtle stuff by this time
I essence yeah yeah yeah yeah that is
hmm yeah it is yeah it is because you
have you have the ignorance and how to
let it go and then you have still have
the taints that sorry butta is saying
there might be and now we're talking
about the taint sonata let the taints go
the arising of ignorance there is the
arising of the tanks with the cessation
of ignorance there's the cessation of
the taints wave leading to the cessation
of the taints is this Eightfold Path
when a noble disciple as us understood
the tanks the origin of the taints the
cessation and way leading to the
cessation he entirely abandons the
underlying tendency to lust oh nice
excuse me he abolish is the underlying
tendency to aversion he extra Bates the
underlying tendency to the view and
conceit I am and by abandoning ignorance
and arousing true knowledge he here and
now makes an end of suffering and that
way to a noble disciple is one of right
view whose view is straight who has
perfect confidence in the Dhamma has
arrived at this true Dhamma so so in
this game the ignorance this is that I
am that was the
distribution yeah please no further
analysis positive is no resistance and
bike abandoning ignorance is it possible
for it to be ignorance and then the
awareness or ignorance you'll be more
tint like the awareness of one's
ignorance is tank like whereas just
being completely well I think it's more
than subtle level of the realization of
the letting go of the ignorance does it
ain't the the the the tape is still
there a little tiny bit yes connect
until the fairways to awareness of
ignorance you see word as Williams in
advance it could be delusion because
remember the Renee turles fading west
station of ignorance not just the
cessation of English have to have the
remainder less annoying and related so
that's why it's like in essence the
essence is sitting there and can cause
problems the taint
I'm not extending for us pink is no
accident seems like a statement frosting
is very common so the other half would
recognize that change good the second
nice little so we had to find it well I
think the Buddha would recognize it i
don't know if they are a odds would be
able to recognize the taint or not
because it's really subtle stuff
and there are suit that's where people
that they claim that they have done
everything that they had to do and they
go to the Buddha and he gives them a
discourse on what needs to be done it's
interesting because it says it's the
underlying tendency this great anger and
delusion and ignorance yes so so that's
what the taints so it's the greed anger
delusion your defiled ms and then and
ignorance which is then the point of
orchards are the truths and everything
is in there all the dependent
origination it's like okay I'm never
sure what you're saying the subtleties
oh maybe I see oh he entirely abandons
the underlying tendency that's the tape
to the lust he abolish is the underlying
tendency to aversion he extra Bates the
underlying tendency to view and concede
I am and by abandoning ignorance and
arousing true knowledge he here and now
makes it in a suffering she's really
just geologist knowing how this actually
interesting there's one more thing that
I wanted to do tonight and that is get a
little bit into suta number 43 which is
the greater series of questions and
answers this is extremely interesting
and important okay that's what I heard
on one occasion the blessed one was
living in sawatya in that Jettas grow
that when it was evening the venerable
maha cojite arose for meditation went to
the venerable sorry puts and exchange
greetings with him when this courteous
and amiable talk was finished they sat
down he sat down at one side and said of
our venerable sariputta one who is
unwise one who is unwise friend with
reference to what is this set one who is
unwise one who does not wisely
understand one who does not wisely
understand that is why it is that and
what doesn't one wisely understand what
one doesn't wisely understand this is
suffering one does not wisely understand
this is the origin of suffering one does
not wisely understand this is the
cessation of suffering one does not
wisely understand this is a way leading
to the cessation of suffering one does
not wisely understand one
is not wisely understand friend that is
why it is that one does not wisely young
one who is unwise saying good friend of
my venerable makuhita delighted and
rejoiced in the venerable sorry Buddha's
words then he asked him a further
question now venerable mojadita and
sorry puto were monks that were our huts
at that at this time one who is wise one
who is wise is said with reference to
what was this said one who is wise one
wisely understands when wisely
understands friend that is why it is
said one who is wise what does one
wisely understand one wisely understand
this is suffering one wisely understand
this is the origin of suffering one
wisely understands this is a cessation
of suffering one wisely understand this
is a way to leading to the cessation one
wisely understands one wisely
understands friend that is why it is
said one who is wise now we're going to
get to it consciousness consciousness is
said friend with reference to what is
consciousness said it cognos it cognates
is Fred that is why consciousness is
said what does it cog nuys it cognizes
this is pleasant get cognizes this is
painful it caught dieses this is neither
painful nor Pleasant it cognizes it
cognizes friend that is why
consciousness is said now the word
cognize is interesting because most
people would say recognized but
recognized has memory in it and that
takes you a one step away from the
actual experience of seeing and that's
why we use the word cotton eyes it's not
recognized it's cotton but this first
also takes you into dependent
origination to awake well you'll see
wisdom and consciousness friend are
these two states conjoined or disjoint
and is it possible to separate each of
these states from the other in order to
subscribe the difference between them
excellent question wisdom and
consciousness friend these states are
conjoined not disjoint and it is
impossible to separate each of these
states from the other in order to
describe the difference between them for
what one wisely understand that one
cognizes what one cognizes that one
wisely understands that is why these
dates card conjoined not disjoint and it
is impossible to separate each of these
states from the other in order to
describe the difference between them
what is the difference friend between
wisdom and consciousness these states
that are a conjoined not destroyed the
difference friend between wisdom and
consciousness these states that are
conjoined not destroyed is this wisdom
is
we developed consciousness is to be
fully understood ostensibly I may be too
that what we named the knowing faculty
it comes out right in the experience
it's not past it is at the present
moment the consciousness is to be fully
understood yes recognizing I mean it's
happening well the cognizer yes that
would that would be what's happening in
the present moment exactly and Isis yes
but but here the question was the
difference between wisdom and
consciousness and wisdom is to be
developed what does that mean the wisdom
is to be developed seeing the links of
dependent origination through the eyes
of the Four Noble Truths okay
feeling feeling his said friend with
reference to what his feeling said it
feels it feels friend that is why
feeling is that what does it feel it
feels pleasure it feels pain it feels
neither pleasure nor pain it feels it
feels friend that is why feeling is said
perception perception is said friend
with reference to what is perception
said it perceives it perceives friend
that is why perception is that what does
it perceive it perceives blue it
perceives yellow it perceives read it
perceives white it perceives it
perceives rent that is why perception is
said feeling perception and
consciousness friend are these states
conjoined or destroyed and is it
possible to separate each of these date
from the others in order to describe the
difference between them feeling
perception and consciousness friend
these states are conjoined not disjoint
it is impossible to separate each of
these date from the others in order to
describe the difference between them for
what one feels that one / seeds and what
one perceives that one cog NYSE's that
is why these states are conjoined not
destroyed and it is impossible to
separate each of these states from the
others in order to describe the
difference between them so they are on
separate unit yes
at some point the description of the of
both of cognition i think is sale seeing
over the question about feeling he said
the bay de NOC you are working yes that
vahina arises with each consciousness or
does that truth that i have that in my
mind some dispute yeah it arises to
acquire along with Sonia miss miss what
Sonia perception yes Tanya son Sonia
Sonia perception but that was not quite
but I just said is not quite the
community is consciousness feeling and
feeling and perception perception them
is in separated so many everyone says
with each consciousness to understand
feeling is arising this feeling vague
enough but it has to be some guy in it
yeah yeah oh yeah but that was missing
my wife a pendant I'd like sometimes
contemplate these things and hear myself
my daughter's here lies six types of
consciousness arising and visit arises
Vietnam and Sangha one meets the other
itself you perceive the feeling when the
other consciousness comes up your
percent the feel said one needs the
other people person that is a very
beautiful word work von emo German
language sometimes is describing the
process oh yeah for example we say what
is going to be the one the nurse who
gives head for birth how he gonna be on
notice in German in English whatever
anyway yeah midwife midwife we're in
German we put express the process he
Berman that means he Haven listing it
under there and under is now the person
Oh her activity is good described and
that is to find that in the German
language very much
becomes more clear to me more important
and more appreciated from my language
your table Barney me not back to to your
perception what's perception there is a
two to three facilities it doesn't see
any when you save our name that means
you take the truth well person is new
schema reception is the part of the mind
that names yeah that puts a name on it
uh-huh yeah it has some memory with it
perception good when the German word I
was trying to get into Val Lehman is
perception there two words in it one is
truth and the one other one is taking it
hits me very much or assuming it covered
but so that it was kind of future if
it's a colossal boredom or else it's a
little process described immediate with
activity of perception so it's not like
perception would be closer to
recognition and colonizing you wouldn't
if you didn't have the cotton izing then
the perception would come up but there
would not be any recognition of it you
have to you have to be able to cognize
it you have to be able to see it in the
present moment its consciousness of it
that's being conscious of it because you
can have a feeling it's meant as there's
some type of story that's driving that
feeling you may not see the story but
you might have the feelings other times
you might see into the feeling it's like
he's almost like a so interlinked you
could have a feeling and what drives the
feeling are their stories that you might
not become you could be conscious of the
feeling that maybe that conscious of the
stories that drive that feeling I don't
like that does it reason you up like
that because there's already stories
involved in that you're conscious of the
feeling then maybe not perception but
other times you can see that the I don't
like and feeds into the perception
because sometimes the meditation you
can't see the link between the two
you can see feeling and something you
can see your story but sometimes they
seem disjointed but in some ways they're
the Buddhist saying they're not
disjointed they're actually they're
feeding into each other no he's saying
those are number those are sexy because
what you're talking about is basically
feeling craving and clinging but you're
not dividing it off your cream opening
its come together and they're saying
story yeah see so you're taking three
lengths and pushing them together can't
do that and definitively feeling craving
and cleaning are separate issues and
when you release them and abandon them
you let go of habitual tendency then
cleaning falls away then craving is the
last one to go by in the line of
cognition it's spilling craving cleaning
habitual sentences separate links okay
let's look at it this way for what one
feels one per seats so the feeling and
naming of that is there and what one
perceives that one prognoses you're
saying narrow the same or anyone that
this is knowing will save our sieves on
coconut is that means 111 fields that
one perceives and what one perceives
that one
so you promised in them than the present
moment as it comes up four able to see
it we see immediate no it's not that
remember me but it's all scared as
memory in it yes it's a hint that you
can see the pieces too I mean it's cool
it's on this thing yeah noble by mind
alone friend what can be known by
purified mind consciousness released
from the five faculties bred by purified
my consciousness released from the five
faculties is the base of infinite space
can be known thus space is reka the base
of infinite consciousness can be known
thus consciousness is infinite and the
base of nothingness can be known thus
there is nothing right with what does
one understand the state that can be
known friend one under state understands
a state that can be known with the eye
of wisdom that's the pure I the pure
consciousness that you can call the
knowing mind that's all the eye of
wisdom is in the sukkah when when you
get to neither or when you get to the
cessation of perception of feeling the
eye of wisdom actually ceases it's not
there at that time because there is no
there is no perception and there
is no feeling that arises and without
that there is no knowing money it's a
complete black total
absolutely
friend what is the purpose of wisdom the
purpose of wisdom friend is direct
knowledge as purpose is full
understanding its purpose is understand
as abandoning you want to hear that
again what is the purpose of wisdom the
purpose of wisdom friend is direct
knowledge its purpose is full
understanding and its purpose is
abandoning the agenda then what do
children at identity and do a full
understanding in the media and the
purpose of wisdom is direct knowledge
that's the rec knowledge of seeing
dependent origination and the full
understanding of how dependent
origination works and that leads to the
abandoning
right view friend there how many
conditions are there for the arising of
right view there are two conditions for
the arising of right view the voice of
another and why is attention these are
the two condition for the arising of
right view in other words the only way
you're really going to get right view is
from listening to someone who can tell
you and that someone is the Buddha
friend how many factors is right view
assisted when it has the Libyrinth of
mind for its fruit the difference of
mind for its group and benefit when
there is deliverance of mine by wisdom
for its fruit and deliverance by wisdom
for its fruit and benefit friend right
view is assisted by five factors when it
has deliverance of mind for its fruit
deliverance of mind for its fruit and
benefit when it has deliverance of mind
by wisdom for its group and deliverance
by wisdom for group and benefit dear
friend right view is assisted by virtue
learning discussion serenity and insight
okay here friend right view is assisted
by virtue learning discussion serenity
and insight serenity and insight is
summoned to be possible
right view is assisted by these five
factors as deliverance of mind therefore
its fruit the difference of nine for its
fruit and benefit it has deliverance of
by wisdom for its fruit and deliverance
by wisdom for you and benefit friend how
many kinds of being are there there are
three kinds of being friends that sphere
fine material and immaterial friend how
is renewal of being in the future
generated friend renewal being in the
future is generated through the
delighting of this and that on the part
of being who is who are hindered by
ignorance and fettered by creaming how
is renewal of being in the future not
generated friend with a fading away of
ignorance with the arising of true
knowledge and with the cessation of
craving renewal of being in the future
is not so this this particular suta is
very interesting now we get to the
deliverance of mind how many conditions
are there for the attainment of neither
painful nor pleasant deliverance of mine
friend there are four conditions for
attainment of neither painful more
pleasant delivering
of mine here with the abandoning of
pleasure in pain with the previous
disappearance of joy in brief amount
enters upon and abides in the 4th jhana
which has neither pain nor pleasure and
purity of mindfulness dude equanimity
these are the four conditions for the
attainment of neither pain nor pleasant
deliverance of mine how many conditions
are there for the attainment of the sign
lyst deliverance of mind there are two
conditions for the attainment of the
sang list deliverance of mind non
attention to all science and attention
to the sign this element these are the
two conditions for the attainment of
sinus deliverance of mine the violence
that just did leave on the bottom side
knows Oliver answered mine not paying
attention to any signs you could say
instead of me Bona you could say the
cessation of perception and feeling also
it can be here 10 really
Fred how many conditions are there for
the persistence of the Zionist
deliverance of nine friend there are
three conditions for the persistence of
the Zionist deliverance of mine not
intention to all science attention to
the sign this element in the prior
determination of its duration now this
is talking about someone that is a non
agami or an era hot they can make a
determination to get into the cessation
of perception and feeling as De Palma
did when she said I'm going to sit for
seven days she made the determination
that she was going to sit for 70s and
then she did it and she did it in the
cessation of perception and feeling that
is the realm for amagami zandora it
doesn't mean that you won't experience a
sensation and perception and feeling
without being a non Aghani ornara hi you
will experience it when you the when the
conditions are right let's put it that
way
friend how many conditions are there for
the emergence of the Zionist deliverance
of mind friend there are two conditions
for the emergence of the Zionist
deliverance of night attention to all
signs and non attention to the silence
over friend the immeasurable deliverance
of mind the deliverance of mind through
nothingness the deliverance of mind
through voidness in the sign lyst
deliverance of mine are these dates
different in meaning and different in
name or are they one in meaning and
different in being only friend the
immeasurable deliverance of mind the
deliverance of mind through nothingness
the deliverance of mine through voidness
the Silas deliverance of mine there is a
way in which these states are different
in meaning and different in name and
there is a way in which they are one in
meaning and different in name only what
friend is a way in which these states
are different in meaning and different
in name here a monk abides pervading one
quarter with my
you'd with loving kindness likewise the
second leg weighs the third likewise of
food so above below and around and
everywhere to all as to oneself he
abides pervading and all encompass the
all-encompassing world with the mind and
viewed with loving kindness or bunted
exalted in mid river without hostility
without ill will he abides pervading one
quarter of the mind with compassion he
pervades one quarter of a mine imbued
with joy he pervade he abides pervading
the one quarter of a mind one quarter
with a mine and mute with equanimity
like why is the second third and fourth
this is called the immeasurable
deliverance of might so it's a problem
of the artist and what friends is a
deliverance of mind through nothingness
here with the complete surmounting of
the base of infinite state infinite
consciousness aware that there is
nothing a monk enters upon in abides in
the base of nothingness this is called
the deliverance of mind through
nothingness and what friend is a
deliverance of mine through voidness
here among gone to the forest or to the
root of the tree or an empty Hut
reflects thus this is void of a self or
what belongs to us elf this is the
deliverance of mind through voidness and
what is the sameness deliverance of mind
here the non attention to all signs of
enters upon and abides in a sign lyst
concentration of money this is called
the Zionist deliverance of mind this is
the way in which these states are
different in many and different in name
and what friends is a way in which these
states are one in meaning and different
in need lust is a maker of measurement
eight is a maker of measurement delusion
is a maker of measurement in a monk
whose Tate's are destroyed these are
abandoned cut off at the root made like
a pawn stuff done away with so with so
done away with so that they no longer
are subject to the future arising of all
the kinds of immeasurable deliverance of
mind the unshakable deliverance of mind
is pronounced the best
now that unshakable deliverance of mine
is void of lust light of hate and void
of delusion lust as some is a--the is a
something hate is a something delusion
is as something a monk whose taints are
destroyed these are abandoned by him cut
off at the root made like a palm stump
done away with so they are no longer
subject to future arising of all the
kinds of deliverance of mind through
nothingness the unshakable deliverance
of mind is pronounced the best now that
unshakable deliverance of mind is void
of lust void of eight and void of
delusion lust is a maker of science hate
is a maker of science delusion is a
maker of science in a monk whose tastes
are destroyed these are abandoned cut
off at the root made like a palm stuff
done away with summer no longer subject
to future arising all these kinds of
sinus deliverance of mind the unshakable
deliverance of mine is pronounced the
best now that unshakeable deliverance of
mine is void of lust void of eighth
grade of delusion this is the way in
which these states are one in meaning
and different in name only that is what
the venerable sariputta said the
venerable makuhita was satisfied and
delighted and sorry frutas words so what
they're basically talking about with all
these different
kinds of mental states is when you are
in them they are void of West employed
of eight and void of delusion and I
suppose you could even say all the way
down into the first drana that they can
be that way
ok
so does anybody have any question
remind is the last
the immeasurable deliverance of mind the
deliverance of mind through nothingness
the deliverance move mine through
voidness and the zionist deliverance of
mine are these states different in
meaning and different in name or they
are they one in meaning and different in
name only the immeasurable deliverance
of mind the deliverance of mind through
nothingness the deliverance of mine
through voidness and the zionist
deliverance of mind there is a way in
which these states are different in
meaning and different in name and there
is a way in which they are one in
meaning and different in name only and
it goes through this and it basically
comes out the way that they are one in
meaning and different in name only is
because they let go of the last hatred
and delusion and when they're different
in meeting and different in name that
they're talking about the immeasurable
as being the Brahma viharas and the
nothingness as being the realm of
nothingness in the dramas and the was
the other week the void pneus is a being
void of a personal selfies and the
Zionists deliver deliverance of mind is
a cessation of perception and field
ok
okay so please continue don't be
overly shocked or upset when the
entrances arise at the stage they can be
very persistent and very loud and can be
very painful
as you six are vs
this is just your mind
develop your mindfulness and it's
helping you to be able to see more
clearly then you'll lose the aversion
towards the hindrance and you'll start
to see it more and more as a friend that
is there to help I remember on the night
of them that the Buddha attained
enlightenment he had some real wacko
heavy duty hindrances coming up and he
had to deal with those before he could
go into the deeper states of meditation
so it's real important to not get overly
involved in the thinking about or trying
to control just saying that as they
truly are allowing the space for these
entrances to come and keeping your sense
of humor with it it will help your
meditation
ok
so much worse America well just be
suffered free than linear stroke
peerless t need ingredients [ __ ] all
grief yeah well being sliced bacon may
all being shared as narrative the
support for their presentation of all
kinds of happiness he needs and having
space center today this is not as many
powershares journals may be a long
protect the Buddhist disposition
you
you
this this course tonight is on right
view or harmonious perspective thus have
I heard on one occasion the blessed one
was living in sawatya in Jettas bro
anathapindika spark there the venerable
sariputta addressed the monks thus
friends friends monks friend they
replied the venerable sorry put us at
this one of right view one of right view
is said friends in what way is a noble
disciple one of right view whose view is
straight who has perfect confidence in
the Dhamma and has arrived at this true
dama indeed friend we should come from
far away to learn from the venerable
sorry put to the meaning of this
statement it would be good it's our the
venerable sariputta would explain the
meaning of this statement having heard
it from him the MOX will remember it
then friends listen and a tempest lead
to what I shall say yes friend the monks
replied the venerable sariputta said
this when friends and noble disciple
understands the unwholesome and the root
of the unwholesome the wholesome and the
root of the wholesome in that way he is
one of right view who
is straight who has perfect confidence
in the Dhamma and has arrived at this
true Dharma and what friends is the
unwholesome what is the root of the
unwholesome what is the wholesome what
is the root of the wholesome killing
living beings is unwholesome taking what
is not given is unwholesome misconduct
and sexual pleasures is unwholesome
false speech is unwholesome malicious
speech is unwholesome harsh speech is
unwholesome gossip is unwholesome
covetousness is unwholesome ill-will is
unwholesome wrong view is unwholesome
this is called the unwholesome and what
is the root of the unwholesome greed is
a root of the unwholesome hate is a root
of the unwholesome delusion is a root of
the unwholesome this is called the root
of the unwholesome what is the wholesome
abstention from killing living beings is
also abstention from taking what is not
given is wholesome abstention from
misconduct and sensual pleasures is also
abstention from false speech is also
abstention from malicious beach is
wholesome abstention from harsh Beach is
wholesome abstention from gossip is
wholesome uncover test pneus is also non
ill-will is wholesome right view is
wholesome this is called the wholesome
and what is the root of the wholesome
non greed is a
root of the wholesome non hate is a root
of the wholesome non delusion is a root
of the wholesome it's kind of
interesting that they talk about
delusion has been unwholesome and non
delusion is being wholesome what is
delusion
come on confirma big rooms no concept of
so taking things personal taking things
personally been a personal sustenance so
that's considered unwholesome anytime
you take anything to be i me mine and
take your thoughts you take your
feelings you take your concepts you take
your ideas and if you identify with
those as being yours personally that is
unwholesome this is why when we practice
the six hours it's such an amazing
system because you're letting go of the
craving you're letting go of the start
of that personality belief or that
personal belief and when you let it go
you see everything as being part of an
impersonal process and that's wholesome
agree
when a noble disciple has thus
understood the unwholesome the root of
the unwholesome the wholesome and the
root of the wholesome he entirely
abandoned Z abandons the underlying
tendency to lust he abolish is the
underlying tendency to aversion he extra
baits the underlying tendency to view
and conceit I am what is extra paid me
take down no he get rid of it uproot I
always got a had it had a chuckle when i
ran across the word extra pate that's
been so bigger Bodhi the first sentence
of that last part when the noble
disciple has this understood the
unwholesome when it's understood then
that abolish is it when you understand
that correctly that's what about
but he extra paints the underlying
tendency to view and conceit I am and by
abandoning ignorance and arousing true
knowledge he here and now makes an end
of suffering in that way to a noble
disciple is one of Red you whose view is
straight who has perfect confidence in
the Dhamma and has arrived at this true
Dhamma now we're going to talk a little
bit about nutriment saying good friend
the Mocs delighted and rejoiced in the
venerable sariputta swerts then they
asked him a further question but Fred
might there be another way in which a
noble disciple was one of right view and
has arrived at this true Dhamma there
might be friends when friends a noble
disciple understands nutriment the
origin of nutriment the cessation of
nutriment and the way leading to the
cessation of nutriment in that way he is
one of right view and has arrived at
this true dama and what is nutriment
what is the origin of nutriment the
cessation of neutral
in the way leading to the cessation of
nutriment there are four kinds of
nutriment for the maintenance of beings
that already have come to be for the
support of those seeking a new existence
what for they are physical food as
nutriment gross or so contact as the
second mental volition as the third and
consciousness as the fourth with the
arising of craving there is the arising
of nutriment now what did that mean when
you six are something you've let go of
the craving that means you're not going
to be feeding that mental state and
eventually that mental state will die
from starvation right if you don't give
it food now what's the actual food the
actual food is the clinging right but
before the cleans my attention rate
placed on it goodna nutriment also be
the purity of mind the experience of the
pure well mine
here
it kind of depends on whether craving is
there or not if there is no craving then
there is purity of mine yes because
there's no playing in habitual tendency
and all the other stuff understand
momentary solution of Christ's suffering
right so I guess in a way you could say
that is a kind of nutriment because
you're feeding the wholesome good point
with the arising of craving there is the
arising of nutriment with the cessation
of craving there is the cessation of
nutriment the way leading to the
cessation of nutriment is just this
noble eightfold path that is harmonious
perspective harmonious intention
harmonious communication harmonious
action harmonious lifestyle harmonious
practice harmonious observation in
harmonious collectiveness when a noble
disciple has thus understood nutriment
the origin of nutriment the cessation of
nutriment and the way leading to the
cessation of nutriment he entirely
abandons the underlying tendency to
greed he abolish is the underlying
tendency to aversion he extra baits the
underlying tendency to view and conceit
I am and by abandoning ignorance and
arousing true knowledge he here and now
makes an end of suffering in that way to
the noble disciple is one of right view
who's whose view is straight who has
perfect confidence in the Dhamma as a
right at this predominant saying good
friend the monks delighted and rejoiced
in the venerable sariputta swerves then
they ask him a further question but
friend might there be another way in
which a noble disciple is one of right
view and has arrived
there might be friends when friends a
noble disciple understand suffering the
origin of suffering the cessation of
suffering in a way leading to the
cessation of suffering in that way he is
one of right view and has arrived at
this true dama and what is suffering
what is the origin what is a cessation
what is the way leading to the cessation
birth is suffering aging is suffering
sickness is suffering death is suffering
sorrow lamentation ping grief and
despair are suffering not to be obtained
not to obtain what one wants is
suffering in short the five aggregates
affected by clinging or suffering this
is called suffering the five aggregates
are not necessarily suffering but when
they're affected by clinging they are
and what is the origin of suffering it
is craving which brings renewal of being
is accompanied by delight and lust and
delights in this and that that is
creating for sensual pleasures craving
for being craving for not being this is
called the origin of suffering what is a
cessation of suffering it is the
remainder is fading away and CC the
giving up relinquishing letting go and
rejection of that same cradle this is
called the cessation of craving it's
amazing how another Dhamma talks I say
the same thing isn't it and what is the
way leading to the cessation of
suffering is just this noble eightfold
path this is called the way leading to
this
zation of suffering when a noble
disciple has thus understood suffering
the origin of suffering the cessation of
suffering and way leading to the
cessation he here and now makes an end
of suffering in that way to a noble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this true Dhamma saying good
friend the monks delighted and rejoiced
in the venerable sariputta is words then
they ask him a further question but
friend might there be another way in
which a noble disciple is one of right
view and has arrived at this true Dhamma
there might be friends when friends a
noble disciple understands aging and
death the origin of aging and death the
cessation of aging and death in the way
leading to the cessation of Aging in
death in that way he is one of great
view and has arrived at this true dama
and what is aging and death what is the
origin what is this a station what is a
way leading to the cessation the aging
of beings in the various orders of
beings their old age brokenness of teeth
grayness of hair wrinkling of skin
decline of life weakness of faculties
this is called aging the passing of
beings out of the various orders of
beings they're passing away dissolution
disappearance dying
univ time the solution of the aggregates
laying down of the body this is called
death so this aging and this death are
what is called aging and death with the
arising of birth there is the arising of
aging and death with the cessation of
burst there is the cessation of aging
and death the way leading to the
cessation of aging and death is just
this noble eightfold path when the noble
disciple is less understood aging and
death the origin the cessation and way
leading to the cessation he here now
makes an end of suffering in that way to
a noble disciple is one of great view
and has arrived at this true dama now
you notice that we're starting from
aging and death and then going down to
ignorance that's kind of interesting
because this is the way to the cessation
this is how you have your right view and
this is also how you start ripping their
you start letting go of things when a
distraction arises and you recognize
that distraction you six are the
distraction come back to your object of
meditation if there is still attachment
then your mind goes back to that
distraction how did minds attention do
that what happened first what happened
after that what happened
after that what happened after that as
you become more familiar with how this
process works you start recognizing more
easily when the distraction arises and
you see something that happens right
before you could carry it away and you
let go of that then and then come back
to your object of meditation after six
or eight
you always have to come back to your
object of meditation that's how you
improve your mindfulness and by six are
in the distraction you are letting go of
the craving you're letting go of that
tension and tightness of that I am
conceit that is attached to everything
when you let that go smile come back to
your object to meditation if you still
haven't let go of that hindrance then
you simply wait until your attention is
pulled back to it and six are relaxed
smile come back to your object of
meditation before long you'll become
very familiar with that process and
you'll see something that arises right
before your mind would go to that
distraction so you let go again when you
see that you six are right then you
start having your mind spend more and
more time on your object meditation and
less and less time on the distraction
make this an automatic habit whatever
arises 6r come back to your object to
meditation the more it turns into a
habit the more clearly you see the whole
process
okay saying good friend a mop delight
the monks delighted and rejoiced in the
venerable sorry butas words then they
asked him a further question but friend
might there be another way in which
noble disciple is one of right view and
has arrived at this true Domhnall there
might be friends when friends a noble
disciple understands birth the origin of
birth the cessation of birth the way
leading to the cessation in that way he
is one of right view has arrived at this
true damo what is birth what is its
origin what is the cessation what is a
way leading to the cessation the birth
of beings in the various orders of
beings they're coming to birth
precipitation in alone generation
manifestation of the aggregates
obtaining the basis of contact this is
called birth when they are rising of
habitual tendency with the arising of
habitual tendency there is the arising
of birth with the cessation of habitual
tendency there is a cessation of birth
the way leading to the cessation of
birth is just as Noble Eightfold Path
now another thing that you might not
have realized is when you practice the
six ours you are practicing the
that that is the way leading to the
cessation of suffering why because
you're letting go of the craving and you
saw back here just a little bit ago that
that was that was the cause so you're
every time you practice the six hours
and let go of the distraction then you
are practicing the Eightfold Path
when a noble disciple has less
understood birth the origin of birth the
cessation of birth and away leading to
the cessation of birth he here now makes
an end of suffering in that way to a
noble disciple is one of harmonious
perspective it has arrived at this true
Dhamma saying good friend and the monks
delighted and rejoiced in the venerable
sorry food to his words then they ask
him a further question but friend might
there be another way in which a noble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this true dama there might be
friends when friends a noble disciple
understands be it understands the
Mitchell tendency the origin of habitual
tendency the cessation of habitual
tendency in the way leading to the
cessation in that way is one of
harmonious perspective and has arrived
at this true down and what is harmonious
our habitual tendency what is the origin
what is the cessation what is a way
leading to the cessation there are these
three kinds of habitual tendency since
sphere be habitual tendency fine
material habitual tendency and
immaterial habitual attended tendency so
they're talking about the SAT sphere
that's a human realm the material fine
material that is the Davy Lopes and the
Brahma lokas up to the 4th jhana and the
immaterial that is the group pajamas the
immaterial dramas and that's the last
four parts of the fourth job
with the arising of clinging there is
the rising of a patrol tendency with the
cessation of clinging there is a
cessation of the bitch'll tenancy the
way leading to the cessation is just as
Noble Eightfold Path then Noble when a
noble disciple has thus understood
habitual tendency the origin the
cessation and way leading to the
cessation here and now makes an end of
suffering in that way to a noble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this true Dhamma saying good
friend the Mocs delighted and rejoiced
in a venerable sariputta swerts then
they ask him a further question you'd
think that they would try to phrase it a
little differently after a while but
they don't but friend might there be
another way which a noble disciple is
one of right view and has arrived at
this true gamma and you think he might
answer in a little different way but he
doesn't there might be friends when
friends a noble disciple understands
cleaning the origin of clinging the
cessation of cleaning in the way leading
to the cessation of clinging in that way
is one of right view and has arrived at
this true dama what is clinging what is
the origin what is the cessation what is
a way leading to the cessation there are
four kinds of clinging clinging to
sensual pleasures clinging to views
clinging to rules and observances rites
and rituals clinging to the doctrine of
self with the arising of craving there
is the arai
using of clinging with the cessation of
craving there is a cessation of cleaning
the way leading to the cessation of
clinging is just as no only full bath
did you notice how when I talk about
clinging I I talk about views opinions
comes up stories all of those kind of
things I don't really talk too much
about roles and observations or
observances rites and rituals mostly
because in the West we don't have a
whole lot of rites and rituals and we
don't believe rites and rituals are
going to take us to Nevada in the east
they have those beliefs there's one form
of Buddhism where they just recite a
mantra over and over again and they have
the belief that when they die they will
be reborn in this fantastic heavenly
realm and from there they will attain
Nibhana all I have to do is recite this
mantra over and over and over and over
and over be nice if it was truth be easy
saying good friend the mocks delighted
and rejoiced and venerable sorry putas
words then they asked him a further
question but friend might there be
another way in which a noble disciple is
one of right view and as a ride at this
true Dhamma there might be friends when
friends a noble disciple understands
craving the origin of craving the
cessation of craving the way leading to
the cessation of craving in that way is
one of right view and has arrived at
this true dama what is craving what is
the origin what is the cessation what
it's a way leading to the cessation
there are these six classes of craving
craving for forms craving for sounds
craving for odours craving for flavors
craving for tangibles craving for mind
objects that pretty much sums up
everything there is about craving does
that with the arising of feeling there's
a arising of craving with the cessation
of feeling there is a cessation of
craving the way leading to the cessation
of craving is just this noble eightfold
path when a noble disciple as thus
understood craving the origin the
cessation and way leading to the
cessation he here and now makes an end
of suffering and that way to a noble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this true dama
so as we progress you're going to see
more and more clearly that when you let
go of one thing then all of the rest of
the things that have already been
mentioned won't arise saying good friend
the monks delighted and rejoice in the
venerable sorry Buddha's words then they
asked him a further question but friend
might there be another way in which a
noble disciple is one override you and
has arrived at this true Dhamma there
might be friends when friends a noble
disciple understands feeling the origin
the cessation and way leading to the
cessation of healing in that way he is
one of right view and as a riot at this
true gamma and what is feeling what is
the origin what is a cessation what is a
way leading to the cessation there are
these six glasses of feeling feeling
born of eye contact feeling born of ear
contact feeling born of nose contact
feeling born of tongue contact feeling
born of body contact feeling born of my
contact with the arising of contact
there is the arising of feeling with the
cessation of contact there is the
cessation of feeling the way leading to
the cessation of
is just this noble eightfold path when a
noble disciple is us understood feeling
the origin the cessation the way leading
to the cessation he here and now makes
an end of suffering in that way to a
noble disciple is one of harmonious
perspective and has arrived at this true
gamma saying good friend the monks
delighted and rejoiced in the venerable
sorry bhutas words when they asked him a
further question but friend might there
be another way in which a noble disciple
is one of right view and has arrived at
this true Dhamma there might be friends
when friends a noble disciple
understands contact the origin the
cessation in the way leading to the
cessation of contact in that way is one
of our Monet's perspective and has
arrived at this true dama and what is
contact what is the origin what is a
cessation was a way leading to the
cessation there are these six classes of
contact eye contact here contact nose
contact Tom contact body contact mind
contact with the arising of the six fold
base there is the arising of contact
with the cessation of the six hole base
there is the cessation of contact and
the way leading to the cessation of
contact is just this noble eightfold
path so every time you see any one of
these different links and you're able to
6r them and come
to your object to meditation you are
practicing right view and the info panel
that's why I talked about the
disturbance and the disturbances can be
any sense door doesn't really matter but
when your mind goes to it that's where
the disturbance is that movement of
Mines attention the more fluidly and
easily you catch that mines attention
moving and let it go the easier it is to
stay with your object of meditation
ah
saying good friend amongst delighted and
rejoiced in the venerable sorry pluto's
work then they asked a further question
but friends might there be another way
in which a noble disciple is one of
right view and has arrived at this true
Dhamma there might be friends when
friends and noble disciple understands
the six fold based the origin the
cessation in the way leading to the
cessation of the six whole base in that
way is one of right view better and has
arrived at this true dama now you see in
each one of these lengths how there is
the Four Noble Truths so they're very
intimately intertwined with the links of
dependent origination when you pull II
realize the Four Noble Truths you
realize dependent origination at the
same time
and what is the six-fold base what is
its origin what is a cessation what is a
way leading to the cessation there are
these six bases the I base t here base
the nose base the tongue base the body
based the mind base with the arising of
mentality materiality there is the
arising of the six-fold base with the
cessation of mentality materiality there
is the cessation of the 64 base the way
leading to the cessation of the six-fold
base is just this noble eightfold path
when a noble disciple has as thus
understood the sixth form at the origin
cessation and way leading to the
cessation he here and now makes an end
of suffering and that way to a noble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this true dominant saying
good friend monks delighted and rejoiced
in the venerable sorry putos words then
they ask him a further question but
friend might there be another way in
which a noble disciple is one of right
view and has arrived at this true Dhamma
there might be friends when friends a
noble disciple understands mentality
materiality the origin the cessation way
into this cessation in that way is one
of right view and has arrived at this
true dama and what is mentality
materiality what is the origin what is
the cessation what is a way leading to
the cessation feeling perception
volition contact attention these are
called mentality the four Great elements
and the material form derived from the
four Great elements these are called
materiality the contact in the mentality
is the connection between the mind and
body I got that contact is the
connection between mind and body
ok
so the the contact is is not body but it
is the connection to it and there is the
contact that we're talking about before
the are right after the six volt base
and then there's the contact that we're
talking about here with mentality and
materiality the first contact is more of
the grocer kind of contact and this
contact here is a very subtle one will
sustain decently a cup or the earlier
the second one dimension well this is
this is part of the mentality
materiality this is part of the number
rupa and the different parts of the the
nama feeling perception volition contact
attention and contact is is the link
that holds the to the mentality and the
materiality together after after the
mentality materiality then you start
going just into the mental realm now one
of the things that made the buddha's
teaching so amazing was when people were
practicing their one
absorption concentration they got into
mind and they didn't they didn't
recognize body at all they got into
their absorption so deeply that their
body just disappeared and the body and
the Buddha comes along and said there's
a connection here and when he gave us
the instruction to tranquilize on the
in-breath and tranquilize on the out
breath when you relax your body you
relax your mind when you relax your mind
you relax your body that connection is
real important and it's what you see
very clearly in your the summit of a
possitive meditation and you don't see
very clearly in the absorption
concentrate this is one of the reasons
that it's so hard for people that are
poor in absorption concentration to
understand dependent origination because
of this this mentality materiality link
oh okay saying good friend amongst
delighted in rejoiced in the venerable
sariputta is words then they asked him a
further question but friend might there
be another way in which a noble disciple
is one of right view and has arrived at
this true dama there might be when
friends a noble disciple understands
consciousness the origin the cessation
in the way leading to the cessation of
consciousness in that way is one a
bright view and has arrived at this true
donna what is consciousness what is the
origin what is a cessation what is a way
leading to the cessation there are these
six classes of consciousness I
consciousness ear consciousness nose
consciousness down consciousness body
consciousness and mind consciousness now
these six classes this at this
particular point is the potential for
them to arise but they have to have the
contact in order to arrest
with the arising of formations there is
the arising of consciousness with the
cessation of formations there is a
cessation of consciousness way leading
to the cessation of consciousness is
just this noble eightfold path when a
noble disciple as us understood
consciousness the origin Association in
the way leading to the cessation of
consciousness he here and now makes an
end of suffering and that way to a noble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this crude alma saying good
friend the monks delighted and rejoiced
in the venerable sorry Buddha's words
then they asked him a further question
do you have any idea what that might be
but friend might there be another way in
which a noble disciple is one of right
view and it's arrived at this tree dama
there might be friends when friends a
noble disciple understands formations
the origin the cessation in the way
leading to the cessation in that way he
is one of right view and has arrived at
this true download what our formations
what is the origin what is the cessation
what is a way leading to the cessation
there are these three kinds of
formations the bodily formation the
verbal formation the mental formation
with the arising of ignorance there is
the arising of formations with the
cessation of ignorance there is a
cessation of formations the way leading
to the cessation of formations is just
this mobile
full path when a noble disciple as s
understood formations the origin that's
the station the way leading to the
cessation here and now makes an end of
suffering in that way to ennoble
disciple is one of right view and has
arrived at this true Dhamma saying go
ahead the monks delighted and rejoiced
in the venerable sorry putas words then
they asked him a further question but
friend might there be another way in
which a noble disciple is one of right
view and has arrived at this true Dhamma
there might be friends when friends are
noble disciple understands ignorance the
origin of ingram ignorance the cessation
of ignorance and the way leading to the
cessation of ignorance and that way is
one of right view and has arrived at
this true dumb and what is ignorance
what is the origin what is a cessation
what is a way leading to the cessation
not knowing about suffering not knowing
about the origin of suffering not
knowing about the cessation of suffering
not knowing about the way leading to the
cessation of suffering this is called
ignorance with the arising of the taints
there is the arising of ignorance with
the cessation of the tapes there is the
cessation of ignorance the way leading
to the cessation of ignorance is just
this Eightfold Path when a noble
disciple as us understood ignorance the
origin of ignorance the cessation of
ignorance and the way
to the cessation of ignorance here and
now makes an end of suffering and that
way to a noble disciple is one of right
view and has arrived at this true dhamma
saying good friend the monks delighted
in rejoices in the venerable sorry
Buddha's words then they asked him a
further question but friend might there
be another way in which a noble disciple
is one of right view whose view is
straight who has perfect confidence in
the Dom on this true donna there might
be friends when friends and noble
disciple understands the taints the
origin of the taints the cessation of
the taints and away leading to the
cessation of the taints in that way he
is one of right view whose view is
straight who has perfect confidence in
the domina's arrived at this true gamma
and what are the taints what is the
origin what is the cessation what is a
way leading to the cessation there are
these three taints the taint of sensual
desire the taint of being and the taint
of ignorance with the arising of
ignorance there is the arising of the
taints with the cessation of ignorance
there is the cessation of the taints the
way leading to the cessation of the
taints is just this no voting full path
now did you catch that
okay because we were just talking about
ignorance and what is the cause of
ignorance is the taints now we're
talking about the taints and they're
saying what the cause of the taints is
ignorance sensuality that the the taint
of where to go since there are three
taints the taint of sensual desire the
taint of being and the taint of
ignorance Chuck's have done that
ignorance is all this invisible isn't
that redundant because the ignorance is
the cause of ignorance what they are it
is a little redundant but they wanted to
get pinned attains to show you that they
these tanks are pretty deep seeded but
the way you let those two things is by
letting go of ignorance well it's still
a little hard to comprehend that the way
of letting go of ignorance is letting go
ignorance this ignorance everyone is a
way of letting go ignorance is by
letting go of the taints and wave
the taint is by letting go of ignorance
ignorance is one of the things would you
leave me alone should I answer it's not
necessary your talent will see the tank
ignorance is ignoring the dependent
origination so so say it that way and
see what happens but so is ignorance
ignorance as the first link but ignoring
the whole process what it is the same
when we are asking or talented you're
indebted of the swinging it unwholesome
evils for the see events what is hidden
one is green and the other one was hate
and the last is ignorance number last
revision it's why delusion what is that
kind of delusion delusion illusion is as
the belief in a personal salvation and
ignorance is not seeing the Four Noble
Truths yeah
there are there two kinds of ignorance
is their degrees and understanding the
Four Noble Truths I think so and they
are there is the big seeing of the four
noble truths and there is the subtle
seeing of the four noble truths and the
subtle seeing is the realization of the
Four Noble Truths so you can see the
four noble truths and you can really
understand them deeply but you haven't
quite reached the [ __ ] the
realization but i guess i'm not sure to
be quite honest but it sounds good that
also be the quick a quick recognition of
the immediate recognition of the absence
of the understanding of the four
the truth for they are really living
with us and the subtle aspect would be
that you kind of realize yeah yeah
that's kind of what I was saying here
yeah yeah and then that's the subtle one
yes and then there's the big one we are
there to straighten down enjoy well oh
but you start seeing the four noble
truths and all of the links and you see
the Four Noble Truths even in the
ignorance and you still have the tangle
and that's where the road you still have
the taint of the aprons and that's when
the realization comes yep there's a
taint of ignorance and then there's
ignorance yes sounds good I don't look
at the for neural chase if you were
going to teach a workshop on the
furniture is er you know would you just
under four noble truths you could spend
today talking about how they're the
blueprint of Investigation and they are
the four steps for investigating because
he proves it in his suit is over and
over and then you could spend the day
talking about how they are the links and
in each one of the links they exist in
the links and why and then
they are looked upon as many traditions
look upon them as four pieces of
information but they don't know what
that you were to say that and they can't
tell you either when you ask them what
does it mean if its core pieces of
information okay so talk to me about the
taint I mean that's where they're
realizing hey is the ignoring the tank
is not opening your eyes and minds
you've already let go of ignorance not
until because it's a continent like
those other side that's what it's saying
it's the content good friends the monks
delighted and rejoiced and sorry butas
works then they asked him a further
question but by their but friend might
there be another way another way in
which noble disciple is one of right
view who's new is straight who has
perfect confidence in the Dhamma and has
arrived at this true donna there might
be friends if you woke in your eyes when
friends and noble disciple understands
the taints the origin of the taints the
cessation of the taints in the way
leading to the cessation of the taints
in that way is one of right view whose
view it straight who has perfect
confidence in the Dhamma and has arrived
at this true doctor
the rosses is yes the residence of it
what are the tank is recognizing it now
this is really subtle stuff by this time
I essence yeah yeah yeah yeah that is
hmm yeah it is yeah it is because you
have you have the ignorance and how to
let it go and then you have still have
the taints that sorry butta is saying
there might be and now we're talking
about the taint sonata let the taints go
the arising of ignorance there is the
arising of the tanks with the cessation
of ignorance there's the cessation of
the taints wave leading to the cessation
of the taints is this Eightfold Path
when a noble disciple as us understood
the tanks the origin of the taints the
cessation and way leading to the
cessation he entirely abandons the
underlying tendency to lust oh nice
excuse me he abolish is the underlying
tendency to aversion he extra Bates the
underlying tendency to the view and
conceit I am and by abandoning ignorance
and arousing true knowledge he here and
now makes an end of suffering and that
way to a noble disciple is one of right
view whose view is straight who has
perfect confidence in the Dhamma has
arrived at this true Dhamma so so in
this game the ignorance this is that I
am that was the
distribution yeah please no further
analysis positive is no resistance and
bike abandoning ignorance is it possible
for it to be ignorance and then the
awareness or ignorance you'll be more
tint like the awareness of one's
ignorance is tank like whereas just
being completely well I think it's more
than subtle level of the realization of
the letting go of the ignorance does it
ain't the the the the tape is still
there a little tiny bit yes connect
until the fairways to awareness of
ignorance you see word as Williams in
advance it could be delusion because
remember the Renee turles fading west
station of ignorance not just the
cessation of English have to have the
remainder less annoying and related so
that's why it's like in essence the
essence is sitting there and can cause
problems the taint
I'm not extending for us pink is no
accident seems like a statement frosting
is very common so the other half would
recognize that change good the second
nice little so we had to find it well I
think the Buddha would recognize it i
don't know if they are a odds would be
able to recognize the taint or not
because it's really subtle stuff
and there are suit that's where people
that they claim that they have done
everything that they had to do and they
go to the Buddha and he gives them a
discourse on what needs to be done it's
interesting because it says it's the
underlying tendency this great anger and
delusion and ignorance yes so so that's
what the taints so it's the greed anger
delusion your defiled ms and then and
ignorance which is then the point of
orchards are the truths and everything
is in there all the dependent
origination it's like okay I'm never
sure what you're saying the subtleties
oh maybe I see oh he entirely abandons
the underlying tendency that's the tape
to the lust he abolish is the underlying
tendency to aversion he extra Bates the
underlying tendency to view and concede
I am and by abandoning ignorance and
arousing true knowledge he here and now
makes it in a suffering she's really
just geologist knowing how this actually
interesting there's one more thing that
I wanted to do tonight and that is get a
little bit into suta number 43 which is
the greater series of questions and
answers this is extremely interesting
and important okay that's what I heard
on one occasion the blessed one was
living in sawatya in that Jettas grow
that when it was evening the venerable
maha cojite arose for meditation went to
the venerable sorry puts and exchange
greetings with him when this courteous
and amiable talk was finished they sat
down he sat down at one side and said of
our venerable sariputta one who is
unwise one who is unwise friend with
reference to what is this set one who is
unwise one who does not wisely
understand one who does not wisely
understand that is why it is that and
what doesn't one wisely understand what
one doesn't wisely understand this is
suffering one does not wisely understand
this is the origin of suffering one does
not wisely understand this is the
cessation of suffering one does not
wisely understand this is a way leading
to the cessation of suffering one does
not wisely understand one
is not wisely understand friend that is
why it is that one does not wisely young
one who is unwise saying good friend of
my venerable makuhita delighted and
rejoiced in the venerable sorry Buddha's
words then he asked him a further
question now venerable mojadita and
sorry puto were monks that were our huts
at that at this time one who is wise one
who is wise is said with reference to
what was this said one who is wise one
wisely understands when wisely
understands friend that is why it is
said one who is wise what does one
wisely understand one wisely understand
this is suffering one wisely understand
this is the origin of suffering one
wisely understands this is a cessation
of suffering one wisely understand this
is a way to leading to the cessation one
wisely understands one wisely
understands friend that is why it is
said one who is wise now we're going to
get to it consciousness consciousness is
said friend with reference to what is
consciousness said it cognos it cognates
is Fred that is why consciousness is
said what does it cog nuys it cognizes
this is pleasant get cognizes this is
painful it caught dieses this is neither
painful nor Pleasant it cognizes it
cognizes friend that is why
consciousness is said now the word
cognize is interesting because most
people would say recognized but
recognized has memory in it and that
takes you a one step away from the
actual experience of seeing and that's
why we use the word cotton eyes it's not
recognized it's cotton but this first
also takes you into dependent
origination to awake well you'll see
wisdom and consciousness friend are
these two states conjoined or disjoint
and is it possible to separate each of
these states from the other in order to
subscribe the difference between them
excellent question wisdom and
consciousness friend these states are
conjoined not disjoint and it is
impossible to separate each of these
states from the other in order to
describe the difference between them for
what one wisely understand that one
cognizes what one cognizes that one
wisely understands that is why these
dates card conjoined not disjoint and it
is impossible to separate each of these
states from the other in order to
describe the difference between them
what is the difference friend between
wisdom and consciousness these states
that are a conjoined not destroyed the
difference friend between wisdom and
consciousness these states that are
conjoined not destroyed is this wisdom
is
we developed consciousness is to be
fully understood ostensibly I may be too
that what we named the knowing faculty
it comes out right in the experience
it's not past it is at the present
moment the consciousness is to be fully
understood yes recognizing I mean it's
happening well the cognizer yes that
would that would be what's happening in
the present moment exactly and Isis yes
but but here the question was the
difference between wisdom and
consciousness and wisdom is to be
developed what does that mean the wisdom
is to be developed seeing the links of
dependent origination through the eyes
of the Four Noble Truths okay
feeling feeling his said friend with
reference to what his feeling said it
feels it feels friend that is why
feeling is that what does it feel it
feels pleasure it feels pain it feels
neither pleasure nor pain it feels it
feels friend that is why feeling is said
perception perception is said friend
with reference to what is perception
said it perceives it perceives friend
that is why perception is that what does
it perceive it perceives blue it
perceives yellow it perceives read it
perceives white it perceives it
perceives rent that is why perception is
said feeling perception and
consciousness friend are these states
conjoined or destroyed and is it
possible to separate each of these date
from the others in order to describe the
difference between them feeling
perception and consciousness friend
these states are conjoined not disjoint
it is impossible to separate each of
these date from the others in order to
describe the difference between them for
what one feels that one / seeds and what
one perceives that one cog NYSE's that
is why these states are conjoined not
destroyed and it is impossible to
separate each of these states from the
others in order to describe the
difference between them so they are on
separate unit yes
at some point the description of the of
both of cognition i think is sale seeing
over the question about feeling he said
the bay de NOC you are working yes that
vahina arises with each consciousness or
does that truth that i have that in my
mind some dispute yeah it arises to
acquire along with Sonia miss miss what
Sonia perception yes Tanya son Sonia
Sonia perception but that was not quite
but I just said is not quite the
community is consciousness feeling and
feeling and perception perception them
is in separated so many everyone says
with each consciousness to understand
feeling is arising this feeling vague
enough but it has to be some guy in it
yeah yeah oh yeah but that was missing
my wife a pendant I'd like sometimes
contemplate these things and hear myself
my daughter's here lies six types of
consciousness arising and visit arises
Vietnam and Sangha one meets the other
itself you perceive the feeling when the
other consciousness comes up your
percent the feel said one needs the
other people person that is a very
beautiful word work von emo German
language sometimes is describing the
process oh yeah for example we say what
is going to be the one the nurse who
gives head for birth how he gonna be on
notice in German in English whatever
anyway yeah midwife midwife we're in
German we put express the process he
Berman that means he Haven listing it
under there and under is now the person
Oh her activity is good described and
that is to find that in the German
language very much
becomes more clear to me more important
and more appreciated from my language
your table Barney me not back to to your
perception what's perception there is a
two to three facilities it doesn't see
any when you save our name that means
you take the truth well person is new
schema reception is the part of the mind
that names yeah that puts a name on it
uh-huh yeah it has some memory with it
perception good when the German word I
was trying to get into Val Lehman is
perception there two words in it one is
truth and the one other one is taking it
hits me very much or assuming it covered
but so that it was kind of future if
it's a colossal boredom or else it's a
little process described immediate with
activity of perception so it's not like
perception would be closer to
recognition and colonizing you wouldn't
if you didn't have the cotton izing then
the perception would come up but there
would not be any recognition of it you
have to you have to be able to cognize
it you have to be able to see it in the
present moment its consciousness of it
that's being conscious of it because you
can have a feeling it's meant as there's
some type of story that's driving that
feeling you may not see the story but
you might have the feelings other times
you might see into the feeling it's like
he's almost like a so interlinked you
could have a feeling and what drives the
feeling are their stories that you might
not become you could be conscious of the
feeling that maybe that conscious of the
stories that drive that feeling I don't
like that does it reason you up like
that because there's already stories
involved in that you're conscious of the
feeling then maybe not perception but
other times you can see that the I don't
like and feeds into the perception
because sometimes the meditation you
can't see the link between the two
you can see feeling and something you
can see your story but sometimes they
seem disjointed but in some ways they're
the Buddhist saying they're not
disjointed they're actually they're
feeding into each other no he's saying
those are number those are sexy because
what you're talking about is basically
feeling craving and clinging but you're
not dividing it off your cream opening
its come together and they're saying
story yeah see so you're taking three
lengths and pushing them together can't
do that and definitively feeling craving
and cleaning are separate issues and
when you release them and abandon them
you let go of habitual tendency then
cleaning falls away then craving is the
last one to go by in the line of
cognition it's spilling craving cleaning
habitual sentences separate links okay
let's look at it this way for what one
feels one per seats so the feeling and
naming of that is there and what one
perceives that one prognoses you're
saying narrow the same or anyone that
this is knowing will save our sieves on
coconut is that means 111 fields that
one perceives and what one perceives
that one
so you promised in them than the present
moment as it comes up four able to see
it we see immediate no it's not that
remember me but it's all scared as
memory in it yes it's a hint that you
can see the pieces too I mean it's cool
it's on this thing yeah noble by mind
alone friend what can be known by
purified mind consciousness released
from the five faculties bred by purified
my consciousness released from the five
faculties is the base of infinite space
can be known thus space is reka the base
of infinite consciousness can be known
thus consciousness is infinite and the
base of nothingness can be known thus
there is nothing right with what does
one understand the state that can be
known friend one under state understands
a state that can be known with the eye
of wisdom that's the pure I the pure
consciousness that you can call the
knowing mind that's all the eye of
wisdom is in the sukkah when when you
get to neither or when you get to the
cessation of perception of feeling the
eye of wisdom actually ceases it's not
there at that time because there is no
there is no perception and there
is no feeling that arises and without
that there is no knowing money it's a
complete black total
absolutely
friend what is the purpose of wisdom the
purpose of wisdom friend is direct
knowledge as purpose is full
understanding its purpose is understand
as abandoning you want to hear that
again what is the purpose of wisdom the
purpose of wisdom friend is direct
knowledge its purpose is full
understanding and its purpose is
abandoning the agenda then what do
children at identity and do a full
understanding in the media and the
purpose of wisdom is direct knowledge
that's the rec knowledge of seeing
dependent origination and the full
understanding of how dependent
origination works and that leads to the
abandoning
right view friend there how many
conditions are there for the arising of
right view there are two conditions for
the arising of right view the voice of
another and why is attention these are
the two condition for the arising of
right view in other words the only way
you're really going to get right view is
from listening to someone who can tell
you and that someone is the Buddha
friend how many factors is right view
assisted when it has the Libyrinth of
mind for its fruit the difference of
mind for its group and benefit when
there is deliverance of mine by wisdom
for its fruit and deliverance by wisdom
for its fruit and benefit friend right
view is assisted by five factors when it
has deliverance of mind for its fruit
deliverance of mind for its fruit and
benefit when it has deliverance of mind
by wisdom for its group and deliverance
by wisdom for group and benefit dear
friend right view is assisted by virtue
learning discussion serenity and insight
okay here friend right view is assisted
by virtue learning discussion serenity
and insight serenity and insight is
summoned to be possible
right view is assisted by these five
factors as deliverance of mind therefore
its fruit the difference of nine for its
fruit and benefit it has deliverance of
by wisdom for its fruit and deliverance
by wisdom for you and benefit friend how
many kinds of being are there there are
three kinds of being friends that sphere
fine material and immaterial friend how
is renewal of being in the future
generated friend renewal being in the
future is generated through the
delighting of this and that on the part
of being who is who are hindered by
ignorance and fettered by creaming how
is renewal of being in the future not
generated friend with a fading away of
ignorance with the arising of true
knowledge and with the cessation of
craving renewal of being in the future
is not so this this particular suta is
very interesting now we get to the
deliverance of mind how many conditions
are there for the attainment of neither
painful nor pleasant deliverance of mine
friend there are four conditions for
attainment of neither painful more
pleasant delivering
of mine here with the abandoning of
pleasure in pain with the previous
disappearance of joy in brief amount
enters upon and abides in the 4th jhana
which has neither pain nor pleasure and
purity of mindfulness dude equanimity
these are the four conditions for the
attainment of neither pain nor pleasant
deliverance of mine how many conditions
are there for the attainment of the sign
lyst deliverance of mind there are two
conditions for the attainment of the
sang list deliverance of mind non
attention to all science and attention
to the sign this element these are the
two conditions for the attainment of
sinus deliverance of mine the violence
that just did leave on the bottom side
knows Oliver answered mine not paying
attention to any signs you could say
instead of me Bona you could say the
cessation of perception and feeling also
it can be here 10 really
Fred how many conditions are there for
the persistence of the Zionist
deliverance of nine friend there are
three conditions for the persistence of
the Zionist deliverance of mine not
intention to all science attention to
the sign this element in the prior
determination of its duration now this
is talking about someone that is a non
agami or an era hot they can make a
determination to get into the cessation
of perception and feeling as De Palma
did when she said I'm going to sit for
seven days she made the determination
that she was going to sit for 70s and
then she did it and she did it in the
cessation of perception and feeling that
is the realm for amagami zandora it
doesn't mean that you won't experience a
sensation and perception and feeling
without being a non Aghani ornara hi you
will experience it when you the when the
conditions are right let's put it that
way
friend how many conditions are there for
the emergence of the Zionist deliverance
of mind friend there are two conditions
for the emergence of the Zionist
deliverance of night attention to all
signs and non attention to the silence
over friend the immeasurable deliverance
of mind the deliverance of mind through
nothingness the deliverance of mind
through voidness in the sign lyst
deliverance of mine are these dates
different in meaning and different in
name or are they one in meaning and
different in being only friend the
immeasurable deliverance of mind the
deliverance of mind through nothingness
the deliverance of mine through voidness
the Silas deliverance of mine there is a
way in which these states are different
in meaning and different in name and
there is a way in which they are one in
meaning and different in name only what
friend is a way in which these states
are different in meaning and different
in name here a monk abides pervading one
quarter with my
you'd with loving kindness likewise the
second leg weighs the third likewise of
food so above below and around and
everywhere to all as to oneself he
abides pervading and all encompass the
all-encompassing world with the mind and
viewed with loving kindness or bunted
exalted in mid river without hostility
without ill will he abides pervading one
quarter of the mind with compassion he
pervades one quarter of a mine imbued
with joy he pervade he abides pervading
the one quarter of a mind one quarter
with a mine and mute with equanimity
like why is the second third and fourth
this is called the immeasurable
deliverance of might so it's a problem
of the artist and what friends is a
deliverance of mind through nothingness
here with the complete surmounting of
the base of infinite state infinite
consciousness aware that there is
nothing a monk enters upon in abides in
the base of nothingness this is called
the deliverance of mind through
nothingness and what friend is a
deliverance of mine through voidness
here among gone to the forest or to the
root of the tree or an empty Hut
reflects thus this is void of a self or
what belongs to us elf this is the
deliverance of mind through voidness and
what is the sameness deliverance of mind
here the non attention to all signs of
enters upon and abides in a sign lyst
concentration of money this is called
the Zionist deliverance of mind this is
the way in which these states are
different in many and different in name
and what friends is a way in which these
states are one in meaning and different
in need lust is a maker of measurement
eight is a maker of measurement delusion
is a maker of measurement in a monk
whose Tate's are destroyed these are
abandoned cut off at the root made like
a pawn stuff done away with so with so
done away with so that they no longer
are subject to the future arising of all
the kinds of immeasurable deliverance of
mind the unshakable deliverance of mind
is pronounced the best
now that unshakable deliverance of mine
is void of lust light of hate and void
of delusion lust as some is a--the is a
something hate is a something delusion
is as something a monk whose taints are
destroyed these are abandoned by him cut
off at the root made like a palm stump
done away with so they are no longer
subject to future arising of all the
kinds of deliverance of mind through
nothingness the unshakable deliverance
of mind is pronounced the best now that
unshakable deliverance of mind is void
of lust void of eight and void of
delusion lust is a maker of science hate
is a maker of science delusion is a
maker of science in a monk whose tastes
are destroyed these are abandoned cut
off at the root made like a palm stuff
done away with summer no longer subject
to future arising all these kinds of
sinus deliverance of mind the unshakable
deliverance of mine is pronounced the
best now that unshakeable deliverance of
mine is void of lust void of eighth
grade of delusion this is the way in
which these states are one in meaning
and different in name only that is what
the venerable sariputta said the
venerable makuhita was satisfied and
delighted and sorry frutas words so what
they're basically talking about with all
these different
kinds of mental states is when you are
in them they are void of West employed
of eight and void of delusion and I
suppose you could even say all the way
down into the first drana that they can
be that way
ok
so does anybody have any question
remind is the last
the immeasurable deliverance of mind the
deliverance of mind through nothingness
the deliverance move mine through
voidness and the zionist deliverance of
mine are these states different in
meaning and different in name or they
are they one in meaning and different in
name only the immeasurable deliverance
of mind the deliverance of mind through
nothingness the deliverance of mine
through voidness and the zionist
deliverance of mind there is a way in
which these states are different in
meaning and different in name and there
is a way in which they are one in
meaning and different in name only and
it goes through this and it basically
comes out the way that they are one in
meaning and different in name only is
because they let go of the last hatred
and delusion and when they're different
in meeting and different in name that
they're talking about the immeasurable
as being the Brahma viharas and the
nothingness as being the realm of
nothingness in the dramas and the was
the other week the void pneus is a being
void of a personal selfies and the
Zionists deliver deliverance of mind is
a cessation of perception and field
ok
okay so please continue don't be
overly shocked or upset when the
entrances arise at the stage they can be
very persistent and very loud and can be
very painful
as you six are vs
this is just your mind
develop your mindfulness and it's
helping you to be able to see more
clearly then you'll lose the aversion
towards the hindrance and you'll start
to see it more and more as a friend that
is there to help I remember on the night
of them that the Buddha attained
enlightenment he had some real wacko
heavy duty hindrances coming up and he
had to deal with those before he could
go into the deeper states of meditation
so it's real important to not get overly
involved in the thinking about or trying
to control just saying that as they
truly are allowing the space for these
entrances to come and keeping your sense
of humor with it it will help your
meditation
ok
so much worse America well just be
