this is kind of an interesting suta in
that there's
I'll be accepting my
the mine gets bored
avoid some of your pain
thus if I turn heard on one occasion
blessed one was living at Roger too high
in the mountain ultra repeat it was soon
after David otha had left David otha was
his cousin
david oughtta just about the whole time
that the bodhisattva was about yourself
he was always the challenge for the
bodhisattva it was always doing things
that would get in his way and causing
all kinds of problems in this last
lifetime
the doctor developed psychic ability
and
he wanted to take over the Sun from the
Buddha
basically
not even to think about doing something
so David otha came along and he said I'm
going to ask for some goons from the
from the Buddha that all the months have
to follow one of the things he asked
that the Buddha grant for the month when
the Buddha was no longer around was that
he would appoint one person to run the
saga
so we got no pull
he said that all monks should live in
the forest and the Buddha said no I'm
not angry
all monks should only have three ropes
meaning that that's all that they could
have with and when you're in
City situation where
give robes longer time to be able to
acceptable so the Buddha said Norman
and David oughtta pulled out his face
and said all month should be vegetarian
and the Buddhist
so
David that went around Roger daha
starting to complain about the Buddha
say what I've said is very reasonable
and this is the way one should act when
the wood is not around anymore and look
at what mistakes he's making and he
started to draw months away from her
former Buddha
this is a time when Ludo that give down
the talk and he would stop and say
Ananda take over my back is hurt but he
never went to sleep he always listened
to what was being said he just relieved
his back so David at he got a couple of
hundred months and
took them away from Roger Gahan distance
and he started giving a dominant talk
and he said oh my back is sore and ask
another month to take over and he laid
down and immediately went to sleep when
the Buddha saw that David octa had kind
of charmed these other monks away and
said sorry puta an iguana it'll get him
back so they come they come around and
they see that David oughtta is sleeping
and they give Adam a talk and everybody
got so inspired they all left and David
Otto would really upset by that it said
that that he was so angry that he
started spitting out blood anytime
somebody does that that
and because he caused the chisholm in
the order you really got a lot of bad
Merrick was reborn
remember i talked about that big
that of molten leather
is he is doing what we finally called
during
takes 50 thousand years to get to the
bottom he's in hot molten lead
every different part of your body and
takes 50 thousand years to get up and
he's up long enough to say one syllable
before he goes back
so he's not in a happy existence
but because he in fact did help the
Bodhisattva to develop his good
qualities eventually when he the bad
karma of his actions wears off it said
that he's going to be
so
he was very helpful to me
he challenged him in all kinds of ways
do things
great phones and break his back
the Bodhisattvas on this is a challenge
satisfaction any
monks here sometimes men go forth out of
faith in the home life into the homeless
considering i'm a victim of birth aging
and death of sorrow lamentation pain
grief and is fair i'm a victim of
suffering afraid to suffering fairly an
end of shirley and ending of this whole
mass of suffering can't be known when
he's gone forth thus he acquires being
honor and renown he's pleased with gain
honor and renowned and his intention is
fulfilled on account of it he loves
himself and he disparages others thus I
have gained honor and renowned but those
other months are unknown of no account
he becomes intoxicated with a gain honor
and right now gross negligent falls into
negligent and being negligent he lives
in suffering this is what happened to
David oughtta and his last life he had
all these psychic abilities and he would
do things to some of the richer folks
around the King's
that sort of thing so that they would be
impressed with him so they would support
him but he didn't continue on what the
path and he got pretty much intoxicated
and actually lost his psychic ability
suppose a man needing heartwood seeking
heartwood wandering in search of
heartwood came to a great tree standing
possessed of parkland passing over his
heart would its SAP wood its inner bark
and its outer bark you cut off the twigs
and leaves and take a little take them
away thinking that they were Hartley
then a man with good sight seeing him
might say this good man did not know the
heartwood this applet the inner bark the
outer bark the quit or the twigs and
leaves the swell needing heartwood
seeking heartwood wandering in search of
art room he came upon him he came to a
great tree standing possessed with
hardwood passing over its heart when it
SAT with inner and outer bark he cut off
the twigs and leaves and took them away
thinking they were hard whatever it was
this good man
with heart with his purpose will not be
served so two monks here some Klansmen
goes forth out of faith and then it goes
through this whole thing again about how
he gets caught up in his being honor and
renown and becomes negligent and he'd
been he lives in suffering this month is
called one who has taken the twigs and
leaves of the holy life and stop short
with that hair amongst some Klansmen go
out go forth out of faith from the home
life into the homeless considering i'm a
victim of birth aging and death of
sorrow lamentation angry and despair i'm
a victim suffering afraid to suffering
surely an ending of this wholeness of
suffering and in home when he was gone
forth thus he acquires gain honor and
renown
he's not pleased with gain honour and
renown and his intention is not
fulfilled he does not on account of it
lawd himself in the spare each other's
he does not become intoxicated with gain
honor and renown he does not grow
negligent and fall into negligent being
diligent idiot cheves the attainment of
virtue he's pleased with the attainment
of virtue and his intention is fulfilled
on account of this he logs himself and
disparages other dust I am virtuous of
good character but these other monks are
immoral of evil character he becomes
intoxicated with the attainment of
virtue grows negligent falls into
negligence and being negligence he lived
in suffering
suppose a man needing heartwood seeking
heartwood wandering in search of
heartwood came to a great tree standing
possessed of hardwood passing over the
heart with its SAP wood and its inner
bark he would cut off the outer bark and
take it away thinking it was hardly then
a man with good sight seeing him might
say this good man did not know the
heartwood and go through the whole list
again thus while kneading heartwood he
cut off the outer bark and took it away
thinking it was hard wood whatever it
was this good man had to make with
heartwood his purpose will not be served
so two monks here's some plans man go
forth out of faith and attains to virtue
but is negligent and he lives in
suffering this month is called one who
has taken the outer part of the holy
life and stopped short with that
so virtue is this is one of the things
when you take on the rose that you start
to learn about
I have them around somewhere
well the actress to incite put the party
if we can all take that one all right
but I want to have a copy striking so
we'll make up the notebook with it yeah
actually you only took ten precepts but
there's another hundred rolls that you
have to follow they're pretty easy
and we'll go over that but that's so
that you can
hair monks some clanton goes out goes
forth out of faith from the home life
into the homelessness considering i'm a
victim of birth aging and death of
sorrow lamentation pain grief and
despair i'm a victim of suffering a prey
to suffering surely an ending of this
whole mass of suffering can be known
when he's gone forth thus he acquires
gain honor and bri now he's not pleased
with gain honour
his intention is not fulfilled being
diligent he achieves the attainment of
virtue is pleased with the attainment of
virtue but his intention is not
fulfilled he does not on account of it
lawd himself and miss Perry governor's
he does not become intoxicated with that
attainment a virtue he does not grow
negligent and fall into mega drink being
diligent he achieves the attainment of
concentration now this kind of
concentration means the kind of
concentration that you lose while you're
listening to the thom talk while you're
giving here you don't let your mind
become distracted you listen very deeply
to what is being said and this can be a
major and cause a major change
the more attentive you become with what
is being said
it can it sinks in and boy it really be
great
I was telling you before in Germany when
it had that guy reading and German but
six sets of six
it affected him but it also affects
about half of the other people and they
were very very useful in column and I
said I'm not going to talk any more than
this all I want to do is do your
practice right now you've got this
benefit of having a super time that's
really over
so use them
and it was amazing to see the progress
so this kind of collectiveness of mind
is the one that you use for listening to
demote ox or reading such as yourself
he is pleased with the attainment of
collectiveness and his intention is
fulfilled on account of it he blogs
himself and he disparages others I am
collected my mind is unified but these
other monks are unconnected with their
minds astray he becomes intoxicated with
that attainment grows negligent falls in
the negligence and being negligent he
lives in suffering suppose a man meeting
heart with seeking heart and would
wandering in search of heart would came
to a great priest and possessed of heart
wood standing over its heart would it's
sadly he would cut off its inner bark
and take it away and thinking this was
partly
when a man with good sight seeing him
might say this good man did not know the
heartwood the swell leading heart would
he cut off its inner bark and took it
away thinking it was heart with whatever
it was this good man had to make the
park with his purpose will not be served
so two monks here's some plans and go
forth out of faith from home knife into
the homeless and get popped by
negligence and they suffered this monk
is called one who has taken the inner
bark of the holy life and stop short
with that here some hair amongst some
Klansmen goes forth out in faith from
the homelessness considering I'm a
victim of birth aging and death of
sorrow lamentation pain grief and
despair I am a victim of suffering
afraid suffering surely an ending of
this whole mass of suffering can be
known when he has gone forth thus he
acquires gain honor and renown he's not
pleased with being honor and renown and
his intention is not fulfilled being
diligent you choose the attainment of
virtue is pleased with the attainment of
virtue but his intention is not
fulfilled being diligent he achieves the
attainment of collectiveness he's
pleased with the attainment of
collectiveness but his intention is not
fulfilled he does not on account of it
lawd himself in disparage others he does
not become intoxicated with that
containment of collective
he does not grow negligent or fallen the
negligence being diligent he achieves
knowledge and vision now we're starting
to talk about being able to see how mine
is actually working as you're gaining
and teaching yourself how minds
attention moves and become
more alert to that
he's pleased with knowledge and vision
and his intention is fulfilled on
account of it he logs himself in the
spiritual others does I live knowing and
seeing but these other monks live
unknowing and unseen he becomes
intoxicated with that knowledge and
vision grows negligent falls into
negligent and being negligent he lives
in suffering so what we're talking about
here is just because you have some
experience to start thinking you're hot
stuff
there's lots deeper States to go to but
starting to understand and then
continuing on with the practice and your
curiosity makes everything unfold
suppose a man-eating heartwood seeking
heartwood wandering in search of
parkwood came to a great tree standing
possessed apart would passing over its
heart would he would cut off its SAP
wood and take it away thinking it was
hard wood then a man with good sight
seeing it might say this good man did
not know the heartwood thus while
kneading heartwood he cut off the South
wood and took it away thinking it was
hard food whatever it was as good man
had to make with the heartwood his
purpose will not be served so two monks
hair some plans and
think still has suffered this month is
called one who has taken the sapwood of
the holy life and stop short with that
here months some Klansmen goes forth out
of faith from the home life into the
homeless considering i am a victim of
birth aging and death of sorrow
lamentation pain grief and despair I am
a victim of suffering a prey to
suffering surely and ending and his
wholeness of suffering can be no me when
he had gone forth the skiff where he
acquires gain honor and we know is not
pleased with gain honor and
and his intentions not fulfilled when he
is diligent he achieves the attainment
of virtue he's pleased with the
attainment of virtue but his intention
is not fulfilled when he's diligent he
achieves the attainment of
collectiveness he's pleased with the
attainment of collectiveness but his
intention is not fulfilled when he is
diligent he achieves knowledge and
vision is pleased with knowledge and
vision but his intention is not
fulfilled he does not on account o that
lawton self and his spirit others he
does not become intoxicated with that
knowledge and vision he does not grow
negligent and fall into negligence being
diligent he attains perpetual liberation
and it is impossible for that month too
far away from the perpetual deliverance
sees the thin
suppose a man needing heartwood seeking
heartwood wandering in search of
heartwood came to a great tree standing
possessed of Heartland cutting away only
his heart would he would take it away
knowing the heart would then a man with
good sight seeing him might say this
good man knew the heartwood this
afterward the inner bark the outer bark
and twigs and leaves the swelled needing
heartwood seeking heartwood in search of
hardwood he came to a great tree
standing possessed apart possessed of
heart food cutting off his heart would
he took it away knowing it was hardly
whatever it was this good man had to
make with hurt with his purpose is
served so two lumps here or some plant
on most forth out of faith then he is
diligent
tains perpetual liberation and it is
impossible for that month to fall away
from that deliverance so this holy life
box does not have gained honor and
renowned for its benefit or the
attainment our virtue for its benefit or
the attainment of concentration for its
benefit or the knowledge and vision for
its benefit but it is this unshakable
deliverance of mind that is the goal of
the holy life it's heartwood and it's in
and run than the shorter
shorter women disclose
yeah I know
hair brown on some Klansmen goes forth
out of faith from the home life into the
homeless considering a victim of aging
and death sorrow lamentation danger from
the spare i'm a victim of suffering
prayed to succor and trillian ending of
this whole mess of suffering finding
when he has gone forth thus acquires
gain honor and renown is not pleased
with being
his intention is not fulfilled he had
changed the attainment of virtue he's
pleased with the attainment of virtue
but his attention he achieves the
attainment of collectiveness is pleased
with the attainment of collectiveness
but his intention is not fulfilled he
achieves the knowledge and vision is
pleased with knowledge and vision but
his intention is not fulfilled he does
not on account of it lauded himself in
his berry brothers he arouses desire to
act and makes an effort for the
realization of those other states that
are higher and more sublime than
molybdenum he does not hang back and
slacking but what monk are what Brahman
are the states that are higher and more
sublime than
here quite secluded from sensual
pleasures secluded from unwholesome
states among enters of on and abides in
the first job which is accompanied by
thinking in examining God with joy and
happiness born of seclusion this is
insane higher and more sublime than
knowledge and vision and your knowledge
and visually keep growing as you go into
these different states
again with the stilling of thinking and
examining but among enters upon and
abides in the second jhana which has
self-confidence and stillness of mind
without thinking and examining thought
with joy and pleasure and happiness born
of collectiveness this too is a state
higher and more sublime than ordinary
knowledge envision when you get into the
second jhana you let go of your
verbalization the verbalization when you
let go of the verbalization this is the
start of noble silence
you don't have to make militias have so
many distracting thoughts and stay on
you're under communication you're
starting to gain confidence
that you know what you're doing you know
what you're doing when
hindrance arise
it might not go away any faster than it
did before but you have more confidence
that yeah I know I can get through the
joy that you experienced in the second
drama is much lighter mine and
the tranquility you experience is
stronger and feel very at ease in your
body descendants
it's very easy to stay with this unified
mind it's your mind this stays under
object notation
but the self-confidence also is
something that you take with you
in your daily life once you learn the
six RS and your understand the six RS
and carryin with you just as close as
you carry your skin
six art everything
when you can remember when you don't
remember and then all of a sudden you do
remember and criticize yourself because
you forgot just start again
that's all
I challenge some people and I was
teaching them loving-kindness meditation
and
and I said I want you to write down
every time you practice loving kindness
during the day I want you to write down
how long you practice
suppose a true team and really upset I
only got eight minutes today I said wow
that's not bad
eight minutes it's pretty good oh really
and said yeah because kept on coming
back so he forgot for periods of time it
takes practice continue doing it'll get
easier as you start understanding how to
read the loving-kindness with your daily
activities and does get easier but she
was really upset because all days she'd
been drying and had only had eight
minutes but she probably remembered and
practiced the loving-kindness 30 or 40
times but it was just for 30 and that's
fine just remember to do it again and
keep it going as much as you can
again with the fading away of joy among
abides in equanimity mindful and for
your work still feeling happiness with
the body enters upon and abides in the
third rung on count of which noble ones
and notes he has a dozen abiding who has
equanimity and is mine this too is a
higher state and more sublime than
when you get to the third drama
you don't have joy arising anymore but
you start feeling more balance in your
mind you don't have the emotional roller
coaster summer
and you start feeling very comfortable
in your body as we lose tension in your
mind Google's tension in your body and
then you don't notice your body summer
now this particular state is where when
I was in Malaysia I asked for some blood
samples before we started this before
they did any meditation at all and we
kept him in the freezer and then we've
got some blood samples after they'd
after the third run to see what was
happening blood and it was markedly
different before they started meditating
the blood was kind of a brownish red and
when we looked in the
under the telescope and looked at the
playlist they have dark rings around
them when they got into the third jhana
and we took that blood look underneath
the blood was cherry red amazing it was
really really nice with and you looked
at the playlets underneath it and they
it was red circle around it and the dot
in the middle was just the most
brilliant color difference crisp it was
really impressive when you get into the
third jhana as you start letting go
attention in your mind and you let go of
tension in your body
the places that you're holding on to
tensions and tightness 'as they start
relaxing and then you start having more
and more good circulation without
revival and you can start feeling
yourself
yes I'm really teaching better
I refuse to teach vipassana i pray that
bad procurement there are a lot of
people
they
there's a few years
and I didn't want to teach any kind of
mindfulness of breathing
so I started teaching menta and so
happens that there was a group of what
are they call themselves
buddhist graduate fellowship
and it was all of these people that have
gone to college together
and they became so excited and when they
started doing the practice they actually
saw that this was really important that
they
started telling everybody in Malaysia
so does
turn around every night I was giving the
gonna talk to
so they really
they really took off with the loving
kindness because they've been doing this
austere gratefully asana practice where
you don't smile and you don't where you
have this tension and tightness and you
don't really pay attention to it but
it's there so I'm coming along and I'm
saying well you smile a little bit and
relax a little bit more and you have to
focus on being happy well this was brand
new Fox to them
and because of that
they asked me to do
a wonderful dream
I didn't want any more than 25 but there
was 25 people
seven or eight people actually got into
the
and all of a sudden I was mr. famous
but it was an amazing thing to watch
because they've been practicing
meditation for so long and not really
getting any benefits and all of a sudden
they come along and say tried this
meditation and they're starting to feel
was happiness come in and there they
were so used to being austere that I'm
coming along saying gotta lighten up
guys let's be happy all the time just
develop this it was big revelations for
them and I had quite a following
and
many of the people got into the advanced
stages of medication in the aruba dramas
and
not many but they're releasing
in
I don't know why I got ya
the whole thing is once you get into the
third job
really starting your mind works and
you're starting to understand that the
hindrances when they come up are not a
problem
he'll get caught in the mud for a little
while
ok
but if you have started having this
balance of mind and says it's okay to be
kind of my for a little get the chance
to learn how to do
so as you go deeper you start having
more and more profound insights into how
your minds attention moves and this
leads to having more so that what used
to be your real heavy duty roller
coaster rides start coming into like a
little waves you're still going to have
some ups and downs but they're not going
to be here at braddock know if they work
that's the advantage of doing this again
by abandoning the pleasure and pain with
the previous disappearance of joy and
grief a month enters upon and abides in
the 4th jhana which has neither pain or
pleasure and purity of mindfulness do to
you once you get into the fourth
you don't feel your body at all you
don't we are not able to Rady in
heart this is where you start reading
and then they have other instructions
this tomb is the state higher and more
sublime than
again with a complete surmounting of
perceptions of gross form with the
disappearance of perceptions of gross
sensory impact and I really don't like
this next one it says the non attention
to perceptions of diversity that means
that really implies one concentration
adjusted
so most of the time I don't read this
aware that space is infinite amount
enters upon and abides in the face of
infinite space it contradicts itself if
you continue in a sentence there's
nowhere
anyway when once you get to this state
you the feeling of loving kindness
feeling of loving kindness changes
and you start to feel
and start your Spanish
and still do the directions feel this
expansion
but you don't do up for this one
stay with me needing in all directions
at the same time
eh
but you're not going to feel any center
it's no starting right here it's just
the feeling
and the feeling of compassion is
different
again by completely surmounting the base
of infinite space aware their
consciousnesses of a month enters upon
it arrives in the basin and for the
consciousness this to use a state higher
or more sublime than knowledge when you
get to the infinite consciousness that
was about a Money in the rising
you will see
one
you'll see it at all of the Sun stories
but the one that you see mostly is with
dresses and it's it's like there's that
can that movie camera which is going a
little bit too slow and you're seeing
individual frames and you're saying a
blank spot in between
yes
it's okay
flash
what is it anyway what you do after you
do this for a while you start to feel
its tires seeing all these consciousness
is arising miles away and
you start realizing up close and
personal
everything has changed
there is nobody on
there's only this arising and passing
and because it starts to get tiresome
that's a form of suffering so you're
seeing an intra duka anata
really close up close and personal
you're seeing impermanence
dissatisfaction in personal nature of
everything because there is no
controlling it's just when I its color
informed consciousness arises and it's
doing its arising and passing away
after a little while then you start to
focus on those blank spots in between
and then you'll go deeper into your
meditation again by completely
surmounting the basis of infinite
consciousness aware that there is
nothing among enters upon and abides in
the base of nothing this too is a state
higher and more sublime than that
knowledge can be when you get to the
base of infinite consciousness
the feeling of compassion will change
and you'll start to feel
as you start seeing those spaces in
between the consciousnesses
then you will start to
notice the feeling of joy goes away and
feeling a very very strong equanimity
gain equanimity when we were in
fourth down play its kind of go to this
one
dude debut
this is probably
states
because all along than learning about
entering
have to adjust your energy so that from
get caught by the slot employer where
you don't get caught by the Restless
it becomes very much more
get into the room
and it really terms
but just tastes too much
going to be restless
the restlessness get your balance back
you don't put quite enough wrong get
sleepy
which we will hang on so if you have
to address
makes this a very interest
always a clear and observing very deeply
how
because during a whole sitting you might
have 10 or 20 or 30 or a hundred little
adjustments that you have to make
you keep seeing more and more clear
there are a lot of other things that
happen in that state I'm
tell me but it is really
by completely surmounting the base of
nothingness among enters upon and abide
in the base of neither perception this
to state higher and more sublime then
knowledge
when you get leaner perception non
perception it's like to be sitting went
to sleep didn't feel like Bruce Lee
when you sit in that
and then you start reflecting on what
happened while you were in that state
see there were some things now you have
to be using or six hours
26
the automatic
when there is nothing left
26 are
is very there
it's like
supera wins
you'll see you think
6
again bias or mounting a basin neither
perception nor non perception per month
and abides in the cessation and his
taints are destroyed by his
wisdom
out of the perception is neither
dependent
let go
and with the letting go
no conditions
and from all
that I have talked to know about
instance a rather puzzled
this tues and state higher and more
sublime than Maui
these are the states that are higher and
more sublime
I say that this person from is like a
man meaning heartwood seeking art was
wandering in search of her
who came to a great tree standing
possessed of hard wood cutting away his
heart would took it away
it was Hartley and so whatever it was he
had to make you apart with his purpose
will be served so this holy life Brahman
does not have gained
or the attainment of virtue for his
benefit for the attainment have
collected misfortune or the attainment
of
that is it is this unshakable
deliverance of mind
it's heartwood ethics and when this was
said a Brahmin said to the blessed one
magnificent master both among
magnificent master Gautama has made the
Dhamma clear in many ways though you
were turning up right what had been
turned over revealing what was hidden
showing the way to one who is lost or
holding up a lamp in the dark for those
with good eyesight to see forms I go to
master go to Milford
and the Dhamma and to the song
from today let master go to memory
so they follow
has gone to inform Griffin so
I've always like this
would would see kind of guy look at wood
green fest
so the whole point of the meditation is
to learn
does
and as you see everything as
our teeth of an impersonal process start
seeing the
full links that occur the ones that
you're going to see most are feeling
craving dinging a bit roll tendency for
that
sorrow lamentation pain and despair
those are the ones you're going to get
to see but as you become more familiar
with it it gets easier
not to get caught up in all of those
concepts of India
likes and dislikes
we start purifying
and it does get easier as
the worst part about meditation is when
you first start that's when it's the
hardest
you know it really is hard to get going
and once you get going it gets easier
and easier and easier down to those but
because it starts to be fun because you
start feeling like ah there is some
relief around
yes I think you have to prep respect
that you know that if that's really true
as long as you're practicing with a
guide that's explaining to you what the
meditation is and what the mindful is
precisely is because you could be doing
a meditation and not have the really
understand what you're really there
still is there still is some degrees of
really even with sure until meditation
and you can just experience not even the
same as this and this seems to work much
faster so you start noticing things a
little bit
well I I just know for me it really it
really struck me as an adventure because
you would read this suit us and when we
run this on the ridge you would read the
citrus and talk about it and then we
would go out and you could see that
stuff and we don't come back and we
weren't really comparing notes a lot at
first so we didn't know each other we're
seeing these things until later on like
probably the second year I guess it's
when we really started to figuring out
that each of us each of the four or five
of us who are actually having this same
thing happening and we really started to
compare stuff you know you never really
said don't talk to each other about you
never really said talk to each other
back then you never really even said
talk to each other so we didn't do it
and we didn't really know it was like
other things they didn't say that I
can't tell you what the foundation was
about no not really all the meadows also
a teacher there almost fell off in tears
I still remember that it was very funny
you know we're all in wait a minute
we're all in the kitchen and he comes
prancing in and he says them I have
something to tell you and where they're
like so what you know and he said I I am
of a pasta a teacher and of course our
Owen and Kelly no you're not of a
passing a teacher you don't even like my
past and she did you not have a pot he
says well let me ask you this have you
ever had any insights in your meditation
and so he started have you ever seen
this and this and this and he's going
over the 37 requisites of enlightenment
and we're going well yeah yeah yeah yeah
we're checking us out on all this stuff
and it's like he gay it's like he took
you into a college course and trot you a
curriculum and didn't tell you what the
curriculum was going to be at the end he
asked you if you knew all this stuff on
this particular curriculum he was
looking
and you knew that you knew it all and so
then he turns around says we'll see if a
pass and amines insight and he really I
guess it never he probably had said it
but we really didn't pick it up pick up
on it the fact that the word from pasta
damn it in sight so we didn't catch that
the question was did you have any
insights in yer in your you know did you
find out anything new did you realize
anything you didn't know before and and
all g yeah and that's what happened so
it was very funny because here was this
insight teacher and he'd been saying
that you know but he wasn't teaching
what he meant was he wasn't teaching it
like the other positive teachers were
teaching it is what he meant and we all
took it to assume that it meant he was
not of a positive teacher but he was he
was a summit of the hospital teacher a
serenity and insight teacher yoked
together and he was just doing that
before we were talking about it this way
and it was kind of fun and that really
was
we have any questions
contingencies like the snake going in
one direction and your expansion of
loving-kindness needs to go faster in
same direction so you're out that he's
getting right that's a little bit
different than more like standstill you
can let it go by don't be afraid that's
making a white truck
she can let it let it slide by living
with that Khobragade becoming a little
bit too close to him sometimes let me
know I always let me know it is it was
always sorry I was
that
and
we
we could be on the path going up to the
cave it was it was not a steep walk but
it wasn't a wide walk neither and we
could both be going in different
directions and I could come within two
feet of them and it didn't shake him up
at all because I was afraid of because
in balance
and I can green eyes essentially they
were really yeah we weren't it was great
because he kept all the mice and homa
crows away because of nice and crows
getting your stuff and really recover it
put holes in your robes and all kinds of
stuff
the crows way to come take anything
shiny away where was the cave is in
Thailand the soccer
I say it was a south of Thailand and
that's what they call it but it was from
malaria was probably a tower crane right
so that was something to them to decide
to come and get you well from where did
they come Oh overnight wasn't the other
side please you know brother Mike please
just go get the month bring him back
from Kennedy something Jenna or sweat
sure Kuala Lumpur was six hours to six
or seven hours
titan
very
another eight hours
that's all
dream
just a little chore
monks
get to ride on the train Pat bus and if
you ride third class
to go from and then
to Vanguard is 90 by
for regularly
I got to do it for 45
which was about two dollars or something
the Brit wasn't but it was sitting on
wooden seats that didn't give and what I
wound up doing is just take book with me
and Reno get comfortable or not
and I was always crowded in the third
class
let's travel all over
and then somebody did something to
they said oh I don't want you to bring
third class why don't you go second
class aircon with the sleeper
oh man I hit the big time ooh that was
so nice I couldn't believe it I could
lay down I couldn't lay down all the way
because they were short but I could lay
down enough and I could actually sleep
and it was no humidity oh boy back to
third class with a hardwood but I
learned all kinds of tricks that took
extra water and if you wash your face in
your hands a few times while you're
traveling it really does make a
difference
I purity extra water
my head real nice and wet you always
sweat off of it
and
thailand
they have
my ID on Rue d'assas place they have
sulfur husband montréal is cotton picker
and now
of his friends
when I was there he was still alive
you'd be giving a dominant talk in this
wrist would come up in this
he wouldn't he wouldn't even break
stride he'd just reach over while he's
giving the dhamma talk would open up a
thing Watson brain given through the
tricking while he's getting the downtime
this great stuff
here's a picture of them
this one day one
spend white money
or taking
other things he did in any visiting
into his kudi payments booty and get his
robes ready here in the morning without
making any noise and he had a wood floor
and its peak and you had no idea where
the where that squeak was coming and he
started yelling I mean had I ray say and
you're so big and you know the fourth
floor there was no way you could get
across the floor in my way I'm siderable
last night that's true but visiting him
was great fun as he had this beauty that
was home but he had a lot of stuff and
he had this he was always sitting
outside in his chair and he had so much
stuff that she couldn't bow to it he did
you again and it upset the tides know in
that they couldn't bow to it some of
them would get off and get it go into
the dirt and bow you know and things
like that
I practice within about six weeks or so
he would take the
and Noble Truths
he would talk about it suffering and
talk about the cars and suffer
a way to get off and get out of the
suffering and then we would talk about
the cessation
and because he changed it like that
there had been monks that had been
sitting with him for years and they
didn't realize that he was talking about
the four noble truths and I'm going
there after the first dhamma talk i'm
walking away with these other monks I'm
saying you can't fool me I know the four
noble truths gonna hear and they're gone
what I said he just talked about the
Four Noble Truths we just change the
order really yeah
he didn't speak much
what english is hope call it may be
very good
if you had a real question
a lot of months
and I don't go on
you just do it in a sense that you know
what a person needs before they really
when they come in usually to discuss it
you really basically know what the
person needs then what they're going to
talk about and have the solution oh it's
all
yes I don't
it was funny kind of me
one that one lady came to practice menta
one night that's are a few weeks later
and she said are you teaching magic
so well
if what I'm teaching you helps you to
have an uplifted mind so you don't have
so much suffering and I guess that I do
to come she'd never come she was deathly
afraid because the Christians of
well that's sort of a lot less magic
cure them there is with laying on of
hands yeah they do their one okay so you
know they don't they don't call it no
it's the alignment of thought yeah the
power of the alignment is thought me to
gathering together of energy great
sure Samaritan 3 and the pair struck
carelessly their games and all grief
Oh

this is kind of an interesting suta in
that there's
I'll be accepting my
the mine gets bored
avoid some of your pain
thus if I turn heard on one occasion
blessed one was living at Roger too high
in the mountain ultra repeat it was soon
after David otha had left David otha was
his cousin
david oughtta just about the whole time
that the bodhisattva was about yourself
he was always the challenge for the
bodhisattva it was always doing things
that would get in his way and causing
all kinds of problems in this last
lifetime
the doctor developed psychic ability
and
he wanted to take over the Sun from the
Buddha
basically
not even to think about doing something
so David otha came along and he said I'm
going to ask for some goons from the
from the Buddha that all the months have
to follow one of the things he asked
that the Buddha grant for the month when
the Buddha was no longer around was that
he would appoint one person to run the
saga
so we got no pull
he said that all monks should live in
the forest and the Buddha said no I'm
not angry
all monks should only have three ropes
meaning that that's all that they could
have with and when you're in
City situation where
give robes longer time to be able to
acceptable so the Buddha said Norman
and David oughtta pulled out his face
and said all month should be vegetarian
and the Buddhist
so
David that went around Roger daha
starting to complain about the Buddha
say what I've said is very reasonable
and this is the way one should act when
the wood is not around anymore and look
at what mistakes he's making and he
started to draw months away from her
former Buddha
this is a time when Ludo that give down
the talk and he would stop and say
Ananda take over my back is hurt but he
never went to sleep he always listened
to what was being said he just relieved
his back so David at he got a couple of
hundred months and
took them away from Roger Gahan distance
and he started giving a dominant talk
and he said oh my back is sore and ask
another month to take over and he laid
down and immediately went to sleep when
the Buddha saw that David octa had kind
of charmed these other monks away and
said sorry puta an iguana it'll get him
back so they come they come around and
they see that David oughtta is sleeping
and they give Adam a talk and everybody
got so inspired they all left and David
Otto would really upset by that it said
that that he was so angry that he
started spitting out blood anytime
somebody does that that
and because he caused the chisholm in
the order you really got a lot of bad
Merrick was reborn
remember i talked about that big
that of molten leather
is he is doing what we finally called
during
takes 50 thousand years to get to the
bottom he's in hot molten lead
every different part of your body and
takes 50 thousand years to get up and
he's up long enough to say one syllable
before he goes back
so he's not in a happy existence
but because he in fact did help the
Bodhisattva to develop his good
qualities eventually when he the bad
karma of his actions wears off it said
that he's going to be
so
he was very helpful to me
he challenged him in all kinds of ways
do things
great phones and break his back
the Bodhisattvas on this is a challenge
satisfaction any
monks here sometimes men go forth out of
faith in the home life into the homeless
considering i'm a victim of birth aging
and death of sorrow lamentation pain
grief and is fair i'm a victim of
suffering afraid to suffering fairly an
end of shirley and ending of this whole
mass of suffering can't be known when
he's gone forth thus he acquires being
honor and renown he's pleased with gain
honor and renowned and his intention is
fulfilled on account of it he loves
himself and he disparages others thus I
have gained honor and renowned but those
other months are unknown of no account
he becomes intoxicated with a gain honor
and right now gross negligent falls into
negligent and being negligent he lives
in suffering this is what happened to
David oughtta and his last life he had
all these psychic abilities and he would
do things to some of the richer folks
around the King's
that sort of thing so that they would be
impressed with him so they would support
him but he didn't continue on what the
path and he got pretty much intoxicated
and actually lost his psychic ability
suppose a man needing heartwood seeking
heartwood wandering in search of
heartwood came to a great tree standing
possessed of parkland passing over his
heart would its SAP wood its inner bark
and its outer bark you cut off the twigs
and leaves and take a little take them
away thinking that they were Hartley
then a man with good sight seeing him
might say this good man did not know the
heartwood this applet the inner bark the
outer bark the quit or the twigs and
leaves the swell needing heartwood
seeking heartwood wandering in search of
art room he came upon him he came to a
great tree standing possessed with
hardwood passing over its heart when it
SAT with inner and outer bark he cut off
the twigs and leaves and took them away
thinking they were hard whatever it was
this good man
with heart with his purpose will not be
served so two monks here some Klansmen
goes forth out of faith and then it goes
through this whole thing again about how
he gets caught up in his being honor and
renown and becomes negligent and he'd
been he lives in suffering this month is
called one who has taken the twigs and
leaves of the holy life and stop short
with that hair amongst some Klansmen go
out go forth out of faith from the home
life into the homeless considering i'm a
victim of birth aging and death of
sorrow lamentation angry and despair i'm
a victim suffering afraid to suffering
surely an ending of this wholeness of
suffering and in home when he was gone
forth thus he acquires gain honor and
renown
he's not pleased with gain honour and
renown and his intention is not
fulfilled he does not on account of it
lawd himself in the spare each other's
he does not become intoxicated with gain
honor and renown he does not grow
negligent and fall into negligent being
diligent idiot cheves the attainment of
virtue he's pleased with the attainment
of virtue and his intention is fulfilled
on account of this he logs himself and
disparages other dust I am virtuous of
good character but these other monks are
immoral of evil character he becomes
intoxicated with the attainment of
virtue grows negligent falls into
negligence and being negligence he lived
in suffering
suppose a man needing heartwood seeking
heartwood wandering in search of
heartwood came to a great tree standing
possessed of hardwood passing over the
heart with its SAP wood and its inner
bark he would cut off the outer bark and
take it away thinking it was hardly then
a man with good sight seeing him might
say this good man did not know the
heartwood and go through the whole list
again thus while kneading heartwood he
cut off the outer bark and took it away
thinking it was hard wood whatever it
was this good man had to make with
heartwood his purpose will not be served
so two monks here's some plans man go
forth out of faith and attains to virtue
but is negligent and he lives in
suffering this month is called one who
has taken the outer part of the holy
life and stopped short with that
so virtue is this is one of the things
when you take on the rose that you start
to learn about
I have them around somewhere
well the actress to incite put the party
if we can all take that one all right
but I want to have a copy striking so
we'll make up the notebook with it yeah
actually you only took ten precepts but
there's another hundred rolls that you
have to follow they're pretty easy
and we'll go over that but that's so
that you can
hair monks some clanton goes out goes
forth out of faith from the home life
into the homelessness considering i'm a
victim of birth aging and death of
sorrow lamentation pain grief and
despair i'm a victim of suffering a prey
to suffering surely an ending of this
whole mass of suffering can be known
when he's gone forth thus he acquires
gain honor and bri now he's not pleased
with gain honour
his intention is not fulfilled being
diligent he achieves the attainment of
virtue is pleased with the attainment of
virtue but his intention is not
fulfilled he does not on account of it
lawd himself and miss Perry governor's
he does not become intoxicated with that
attainment a virtue he does not grow
negligent and fall into mega drink being
diligent he achieves the attainment of
concentration now this kind of
concentration means the kind of
concentration that you lose while you're
listening to the thom talk while you're
giving here you don't let your mind
become distracted you listen very deeply
to what is being said and this can be a
major and cause a major change
the more attentive you become with what
is being said
it can it sinks in and boy it really be
great
I was telling you before in Germany when
it had that guy reading and German but
six sets of six
it affected him but it also affects
about half of the other people and they
were very very useful in column and I
said I'm not going to talk any more than
this all I want to do is do your
practice right now you've got this
benefit of having a super time that's
really over
so use them
and it was amazing to see the progress
so this kind of collectiveness of mind
is the one that you use for listening to
demote ox or reading such as yourself
he is pleased with the attainment of
collectiveness and his intention is
fulfilled on account of it he blogs
himself and he disparages others I am
collected my mind is unified but these
other monks are unconnected with their
minds astray he becomes intoxicated with
that attainment grows negligent falls in
the negligence and being negligent he
lives in suffering suppose a man meeting
heart with seeking heart and would
wandering in search of heart would came
to a great priest and possessed of heart
wood standing over its heart would it's
sadly he would cut off its inner bark
and take it away and thinking this was
partly
when a man with good sight seeing him
might say this good man did not know the
heartwood the swell leading heart would
he cut off its inner bark and took it
away thinking it was heart with whatever
it was this good man had to make the
park with his purpose will not be served
so two monks here's some plans and go
forth out of faith from home knife into
the homeless and get popped by
negligence and they suffered this monk
is called one who has taken the inner
bark of the holy life and stop short
with that here some hair amongst some
Klansmen goes forth out in faith from
the homelessness considering I'm a
victim of birth aging and death of
sorrow lamentation pain grief and
despair I am a victim of suffering
afraid suffering surely an ending of
this whole mass of suffering can be
known when he has gone forth thus he
acquires gain honor and renown he's not
pleased with being honor and renown and
his intention is not fulfilled being
diligent you choose the attainment of
virtue is pleased with the attainment of
virtue but his intention is not
fulfilled being diligent he achieves the
attainment of collectiveness he's
pleased with the attainment of
collectiveness but his intention is not
fulfilled he does not on account of it
lawd himself in disparage others he does
not become intoxicated with that
containment of collective
he does not grow negligent or fallen the
negligence being diligent he achieves
knowledge and vision now we're starting
to talk about being able to see how mine
is actually working as you're gaining
and teaching yourself how minds
attention moves and become
more alert to that
he's pleased with knowledge and vision
and his intention is fulfilled on
account of it he logs himself in the
spiritual others does I live knowing and
seeing but these other monks live
unknowing and unseen he becomes
intoxicated with that knowledge and
vision grows negligent falls into
negligent and being negligent he lives
in suffering so what we're talking about
here is just because you have some
experience to start thinking you're hot
stuff
there's lots deeper States to go to but
starting to understand and then
continuing on with the practice and your
curiosity makes everything unfold
suppose a man-eating heartwood seeking
heartwood wandering in search of
parkwood came to a great tree standing
possessed apart would passing over its
heart would he would cut off its SAP
wood and take it away thinking it was
hard wood then a man with good sight
seeing it might say this good man did
not know the heartwood thus while
kneading heartwood he cut off the South
wood and took it away thinking it was
hard food whatever it was as good man
had to make with the heartwood his
purpose will not be served so two monks
hair some plans and
think still has suffered this month is
called one who has taken the sapwood of
the holy life and stop short with that
here months some Klansmen goes forth out
of faith from the home life into the
homeless considering i am a victim of
birth aging and death of sorrow
lamentation pain grief and despair I am
a victim of suffering a prey to
suffering surely and ending and his
wholeness of suffering can be no me when
he had gone forth the skiff where he
acquires gain honor and we know is not
pleased with gain honor and
and his intentions not fulfilled when he
is diligent he achieves the attainment
of virtue he's pleased with the
attainment of virtue but his intention
is not fulfilled when he's diligent he
achieves the attainment of
collectiveness he's pleased with the
attainment of collectiveness but his
intention is not fulfilled when he is
diligent he achieves knowledge and
vision is pleased with knowledge and
vision but his intention is not
fulfilled he does not on account o that
lawton self and his spirit others he
does not become intoxicated with that
knowledge and vision he does not grow
negligent and fall into negligence being
diligent he attains perpetual liberation
and it is impossible for that month too
far away from the perpetual deliverance
sees the thin
suppose a man needing heartwood seeking
heartwood wandering in search of
heartwood came to a great tree standing
possessed of Heartland cutting away only
his heart would he would take it away
knowing the heart would then a man with
good sight seeing him might say this
good man knew the heartwood this
afterward the inner bark the outer bark
and twigs and leaves the swelled needing
heartwood seeking heartwood in search of
hardwood he came to a great tree
standing possessed apart possessed of
heart food cutting off his heart would
he took it away knowing it was hardly
whatever it was this good man had to
make with hurt with his purpose is
served so two lumps here or some plant
on most forth out of faith then he is
diligent
tains perpetual liberation and it is
impossible for that month to fall away
from that deliverance so this holy life
box does not have gained honor and
renowned for its benefit or the
attainment our virtue for its benefit or
the attainment of concentration for its
benefit or the knowledge and vision for
its benefit but it is this unshakable
deliverance of mind that is the goal of
the holy life it's heartwood and it's in
and run than the shorter
shorter women disclose
yeah I know
hair brown on some Klansmen goes forth
out of faith from the home life into the
homeless considering a victim of aging
and death sorrow lamentation danger from
the spare i'm a victim of suffering
prayed to succor and trillian ending of
this whole mess of suffering finding
when he has gone forth thus acquires
gain honor and renown is not pleased
with being
his intention is not fulfilled he had
changed the attainment of virtue he's
pleased with the attainment of virtue
but his attention he achieves the
attainment of collectiveness is pleased
with the attainment of collectiveness
but his intention is not fulfilled he
achieves the knowledge and vision is
pleased with knowledge and vision but
his intention is not fulfilled he does
not on account of it lauded himself in
his berry brothers he arouses desire to
act and makes an effort for the
realization of those other states that
are higher and more sublime than
molybdenum he does not hang back and
slacking but what monk are what Brahman
are the states that are higher and more
sublime than
here quite secluded from sensual
pleasures secluded from unwholesome
states among enters of on and abides in
the first job which is accompanied by
thinking in examining God with joy and
happiness born of seclusion this is
insane higher and more sublime than
knowledge and vision and your knowledge
and visually keep growing as you go into
these different states
again with the stilling of thinking and
examining but among enters upon and
abides in the second jhana which has
self-confidence and stillness of mind
without thinking and examining thought
with joy and pleasure and happiness born
of collectiveness this too is a state
higher and more sublime than ordinary
knowledge envision when you get into the
second jhana you let go of your
verbalization the verbalization when you
let go of the verbalization this is the
start of noble silence
you don't have to make militias have so
many distracting thoughts and stay on
you're under communication you're
starting to gain confidence
that you know what you're doing you know
what you're doing when
hindrance arise
it might not go away any faster than it
did before but you have more confidence
that yeah I know I can get through the
joy that you experienced in the second
drama is much lighter mine and
the tranquility you experience is
stronger and feel very at ease in your
body descendants
it's very easy to stay with this unified
mind it's your mind this stays under
object notation
but the self-confidence also is
something that you take with you
in your daily life once you learn the
six RS and your understand the six RS
and carryin with you just as close as
you carry your skin
six art everything
when you can remember when you don't
remember and then all of a sudden you do
remember and criticize yourself because
you forgot just start again
that's all
I challenge some people and I was
teaching them loving-kindness meditation
and
and I said I want you to write down
every time you practice loving kindness
during the day I want you to write down
how long you practice
suppose a true team and really upset I
only got eight minutes today I said wow
that's not bad
eight minutes it's pretty good oh really
and said yeah because kept on coming
back so he forgot for periods of time it
takes practice continue doing it'll get
easier as you start understanding how to
read the loving-kindness with your daily
activities and does get easier but she
was really upset because all days she'd
been drying and had only had eight
minutes but she probably remembered and
practiced the loving-kindness 30 or 40
times but it was just for 30 and that's
fine just remember to do it again and
keep it going as much as you can
again with the fading away of joy among
abides in equanimity mindful and for
your work still feeling happiness with
the body enters upon and abides in the
third rung on count of which noble ones
and notes he has a dozen abiding who has
equanimity and is mine this too is a
higher state and more sublime than
when you get to the third drama
you don't have joy arising anymore but
you start feeling more balance in your
mind you don't have the emotional roller
coaster summer
and you start feeling very comfortable
in your body as we lose tension in your
mind Google's tension in your body and
then you don't notice your body summer
now this particular state is where when
I was in Malaysia I asked for some blood
samples before we started this before
they did any meditation at all and we
kept him in the freezer and then we've
got some blood samples after they'd
after the third run to see what was
happening blood and it was markedly
different before they started meditating
the blood was kind of a brownish red and
when we looked in the
under the telescope and looked at the
playlist they have dark rings around
them when they got into the third jhana
and we took that blood look underneath
the blood was cherry red amazing it was
really really nice with and you looked
at the playlets underneath it and they
it was red circle around it and the dot
in the middle was just the most
brilliant color difference crisp it was
really impressive when you get into the
third jhana as you start letting go
attention in your mind and you let go of
tension in your body
the places that you're holding on to
tensions and tightness 'as they start
relaxing and then you start having more
and more good circulation without
revival and you can start feeling
yourself
yes I'm really teaching better
I refuse to teach vipassana i pray that
bad procurement there are a lot of
people
they
there's a few years
and I didn't want to teach any kind of
mindfulness of breathing
so I started teaching menta and so
happens that there was a group of what
are they call themselves
buddhist graduate fellowship
and it was all of these people that have
gone to college together
and they became so excited and when they
started doing the practice they actually
saw that this was really important that
they
started telling everybody in Malaysia
so does
turn around every night I was giving the
gonna talk to
so they really
they really took off with the loving
kindness because they've been doing this
austere gratefully asana practice where
you don't smile and you don't where you
have this tension and tightness and you
don't really pay attention to it but
it's there so I'm coming along and I'm
saying well you smile a little bit and
relax a little bit more and you have to
focus on being happy well this was brand
new Fox to them
and because of that
they asked me to do
a wonderful dream
I didn't want any more than 25 but there
was 25 people
seven or eight people actually got into
the
and all of a sudden I was mr. famous
but it was an amazing thing to watch
because they've been practicing
meditation for so long and not really
getting any benefits and all of a sudden
they come along and say tried this
meditation and they're starting to feel
was happiness come in and there they
were so used to being austere that I'm
coming along saying gotta lighten up
guys let's be happy all the time just
develop this it was big revelations for
them and I had quite a following
and
many of the people got into the advanced
stages of medication in the aruba dramas
and
not many but they're releasing
in
I don't know why I got ya
the whole thing is once you get into the
third job
really starting your mind works and
you're starting to understand that the
hindrances when they come up are not a
problem
he'll get caught in the mud for a little
while
ok
but if you have started having this
balance of mind and says it's okay to be
kind of my for a little get the chance
to learn how to do
so as you go deeper you start having
more and more profound insights into how
your minds attention moves and this
leads to having more so that what used
to be your real heavy duty roller
coaster rides start coming into like a
little waves you're still going to have
some ups and downs but they're not going
to be here at braddock know if they work
that's the advantage of doing this again
by abandoning the pleasure and pain with
the previous disappearance of joy and
grief a month enters upon and abides in
the 4th jhana which has neither pain or
pleasure and purity of mindfulness do to
you once you get into the fourth
you don't feel your body at all you
don't we are not able to Rady in
heart this is where you start reading
and then they have other instructions
this tomb is the state higher and more
sublime than
again with a complete surmounting of
perceptions of gross form with the
disappearance of perceptions of gross
sensory impact and I really don't like
this next one it says the non attention
to perceptions of diversity that means
that really implies one concentration
adjusted
so most of the time I don't read this
aware that space is infinite amount
enters upon and abides in the face of
infinite space it contradicts itself if
you continue in a sentence there's
nowhere
anyway when once you get to this state
you the feeling of loving kindness
feeling of loving kindness changes
and you start to feel
and start your Spanish
and still do the directions feel this
expansion
but you don't do up for this one
stay with me needing in all directions
at the same time
eh
but you're not going to feel any center
it's no starting right here it's just
the feeling
and the feeling of compassion is
different
again by completely surmounting the base
of infinite space aware their
consciousnesses of a month enters upon
it arrives in the basin and for the
consciousness this to use a state higher
or more sublime than knowledge when you
get to the infinite consciousness that
was about a Money in the rising
you will see
one
you'll see it at all of the Sun stories
but the one that you see mostly is with
dresses and it's it's like there's that
can that movie camera which is going a
little bit too slow and you're seeing
individual frames and you're saying a
blank spot in between
yes
it's okay
flash
what is it anyway what you do after you
do this for a while you start to feel
its tires seeing all these consciousness
is arising miles away and
you start realizing up close and
personal
everything has changed
there is nobody on
there's only this arising and passing
and because it starts to get tiresome
that's a form of suffering so you're
seeing an intra duka anata
really close up close and personal
you're seeing impermanence
dissatisfaction in personal nature of
everything because there is no
controlling it's just when I its color
informed consciousness arises and it's
doing its arising and passing away
after a little while then you start to
focus on those blank spots in between
and then you'll go deeper into your
meditation again by completely
surmounting the basis of infinite
consciousness aware that there is
nothing among enters upon and abides in
the base of nothing this too is a state
higher and more sublime than that
knowledge can be when you get to the
base of infinite consciousness
the feeling of compassion will change
and you'll start to feel
as you start seeing those spaces in
between the consciousnesses
then you will start to
notice the feeling of joy goes away and
feeling a very very strong equanimity
gain equanimity when we were in
fourth down play its kind of go to this
one
dude debut
this is probably
states
because all along than learning about
entering
have to adjust your energy so that from
get caught by the slot employer where
you don't get caught by the Restless
it becomes very much more
get into the room
and it really terms
but just tastes too much
going to be restless
the restlessness get your balance back
you don't put quite enough wrong get
sleepy
which we will hang on so if you have
to address
makes this a very interest
always a clear and observing very deeply
how
because during a whole sitting you might
have 10 or 20 or 30 or a hundred little
adjustments that you have to make
you keep seeing more and more clear
there are a lot of other things that
happen in that state I'm
tell me but it is really
by completely surmounting the base of
nothingness among enters upon and abide
in the base of neither perception this
to state higher and more sublime then
knowledge
when you get leaner perception non
perception it's like to be sitting went
to sleep didn't feel like Bruce Lee
when you sit in that
and then you start reflecting on what
happened while you were in that state
see there were some things now you have
to be using or six hours
26
the automatic
when there is nothing left
26 are
is very there
it's like
supera wins
you'll see you think
6
again bias or mounting a basin neither
perception nor non perception per month
and abides in the cessation and his
taints are destroyed by his
wisdom
out of the perception is neither
dependent
let go
and with the letting go
no conditions
and from all
that I have talked to know about
instance a rather puzzled
this tues and state higher and more
sublime than Maui
these are the states that are higher and
more sublime
I say that this person from is like a
man meaning heartwood seeking art was
wandering in search of her
who came to a great tree standing
possessed of hard wood cutting away his
heart would took it away
it was Hartley and so whatever it was he
had to make you apart with his purpose
will be served so this holy life Brahman
does not have gained
or the attainment of virtue for his
benefit for the attainment have
collected misfortune or the attainment
of
that is it is this unshakable
deliverance of mind
it's heartwood ethics and when this was
said a Brahmin said to the blessed one
magnificent master both among
magnificent master Gautama has made the
Dhamma clear in many ways though you
were turning up right what had been
turned over revealing what was hidden
showing the way to one who is lost or
holding up a lamp in the dark for those
with good eyesight to see forms I go to
master go to Milford
and the Dhamma and to the song
from today let master go to memory
so they follow
has gone to inform Griffin so
I've always like this
would would see kind of guy look at wood
green fest
so the whole point of the meditation is
to learn
does
and as you see everything as
our teeth of an impersonal process start
seeing the
full links that occur the ones that
you're going to see most are feeling
craving dinging a bit roll tendency for
that
sorrow lamentation pain and despair
those are the ones you're going to get
to see but as you become more familiar
with it it gets easier
not to get caught up in all of those
concepts of India
likes and dislikes
we start purifying
and it does get easier as
the worst part about meditation is when
you first start that's when it's the
hardest
you know it really is hard to get going
and once you get going it gets easier
and easier and easier down to those but
because it starts to be fun because you
start feeling like ah there is some
relief around
yes I think you have to prep respect
that you know that if that's really true
as long as you're practicing with a
guide that's explaining to you what the
meditation is and what the mindful is
precisely is because you could be doing
a meditation and not have the really
understand what you're really there
still is there still is some degrees of
really even with sure until meditation
and you can just experience not even the
same as this and this seems to work much
faster so you start noticing things a
little bit
well I I just know for me it really it
really struck me as an adventure because
you would read this suit us and when we
run this on the ridge you would read the
citrus and talk about it and then we
would go out and you could see that
stuff and we don't come back and we
weren't really comparing notes a lot at
first so we didn't know each other we're
seeing these things until later on like
probably the second year I guess it's
when we really started to figuring out
that each of us each of the four or five
of us who are actually having this same
thing happening and we really started to
compare stuff you know you never really
said don't talk to each other about you
never really said talk to each other
back then you never really even said
talk to each other so we didn't do it
and we didn't really know it was like
other things they didn't say that I
can't tell you what the foundation was
about no not really all the meadows also
a teacher there almost fell off in tears
I still remember that it was very funny
you know we're all in wait a minute
we're all in the kitchen and he comes
prancing in and he says them I have
something to tell you and where they're
like so what you know and he said I I am
of a pasta a teacher and of course our
Owen and Kelly no you're not of a
passing a teacher you don't even like my
past and she did you not have a pot he
says well let me ask you this have you
ever had any insights in your meditation
and so he started have you ever seen
this and this and this and he's going
over the 37 requisites of enlightenment
and we're going well yeah yeah yeah yeah
we're checking us out on all this stuff
and it's like he gay it's like he took
you into a college course and trot you a
curriculum and didn't tell you what the
curriculum was going to be at the end he
asked you if you knew all this stuff on
this particular curriculum he was
looking
and you knew that you knew it all and so
then he turns around says we'll see if a
pass and amines insight and he really I
guess it never he probably had said it
but we really didn't pick it up pick up
on it the fact that the word from pasta
damn it in sight so we didn't catch that
the question was did you have any
insights in yer in your you know did you
find out anything new did you realize
anything you didn't know before and and
all g yeah and that's what happened so
it was very funny because here was this
insight teacher and he'd been saying
that you know but he wasn't teaching
what he meant was he wasn't teaching it
like the other positive teachers were
teaching it is what he meant and we all
took it to assume that it meant he was
not of a positive teacher but he was he
was a summit of the hospital teacher a
serenity and insight teacher yoked
together and he was just doing that
before we were talking about it this way
and it was kind of fun and that really
was
we have any questions
contingencies like the snake going in
one direction and your expansion of
loving-kindness needs to go faster in
same direction so you're out that he's
getting right that's a little bit
different than more like standstill you
can let it go by don't be afraid that's
making a white truck
she can let it let it slide by living
with that Khobragade becoming a little
bit too close to him sometimes let me
know I always let me know it is it was
always sorry I was
that
and
we
we could be on the path going up to the
cave it was it was not a steep walk but
it wasn't a wide walk neither and we
could both be going in different
directions and I could come within two
feet of them and it didn't shake him up
at all because I was afraid of because
in balance
and I can green eyes essentially they
were really yeah we weren't it was great
because he kept all the mice and homa
crows away because of nice and crows
getting your stuff and really recover it
put holes in your robes and all kinds of
stuff
the crows way to come take anything
shiny away where was the cave is in
Thailand the soccer
I say it was a south of Thailand and
that's what they call it but it was from
malaria was probably a tower crane right
so that was something to them to decide
to come and get you well from where did
they come Oh overnight wasn't the other
side please you know brother Mike please
just go get the month bring him back
from Kennedy something Jenna or sweat
sure Kuala Lumpur was six hours to six
or seven hours
titan
very
another eight hours
that's all
dream
just a little chore
monks
get to ride on the train Pat bus and if
you ride third class
to go from and then
to Vanguard is 90 by
for regularly
I got to do it for 45
which was about two dollars or something
the Brit wasn't but it was sitting on
wooden seats that didn't give and what I
wound up doing is just take book with me
and Reno get comfortable or not
and I was always crowded in the third
class
let's travel all over
and then somebody did something to
they said oh I don't want you to bring
third class why don't you go second
class aircon with the sleeper
oh man I hit the big time ooh that was
so nice I couldn't believe it I could
lay down I couldn't lay down all the way
because they were short but I could lay
down enough and I could actually sleep
and it was no humidity oh boy back to
third class with a hardwood but I
learned all kinds of tricks that took
extra water and if you wash your face in
your hands a few times while you're
traveling it really does make a
difference
I purity extra water
my head real nice and wet you always
sweat off of it
and
thailand
they have
my ID on Rue d'assas place they have
sulfur husband montréal is cotton picker
and now
of his friends
when I was there he was still alive
you'd be giving a dominant talk in this
wrist would come up in this
he wouldn't he wouldn't even break
stride he'd just reach over while he's
giving the dhamma talk would open up a
thing Watson brain given through the
tricking while he's getting the downtime
this great stuff
here's a picture of them
this one day one
spend white money
or taking
other things he did in any visiting
into his kudi payments booty and get his
robes ready here in the morning without
making any noise and he had a wood floor
and its peak and you had no idea where
the where that squeak was coming and he
started yelling I mean had I ray say and
you're so big and you know the fourth
floor there was no way you could get
across the floor in my way I'm siderable
last night that's true but visiting him
was great fun as he had this beauty that
was home but he had a lot of stuff and
he had this he was always sitting
outside in his chair and he had so much
stuff that she couldn't bow to it he did
you again and it upset the tides know in
that they couldn't bow to it some of
them would get off and get it go into
the dirt and bow you know and things
like that
I practice within about six weeks or so
he would take the
and Noble Truths
he would talk about it suffering and
talk about the cars and suffer
a way to get off and get out of the
suffering and then we would talk about
the cessation
and because he changed it like that
there had been monks that had been
sitting with him for years and they
didn't realize that he was talking about
the four noble truths and I'm going
there after the first dhamma talk i'm
walking away with these other monks I'm
saying you can't fool me I know the four
noble truths gonna hear and they're gone
what I said he just talked about the
Four Noble Truths we just change the
order really yeah
he didn't speak much
what english is hope call it may be
very good
if you had a real question
a lot of months
and I don't go on
you just do it in a sense that you know
what a person needs before they really
when they come in usually to discuss it
you really basically know what the
person needs then what they're going to
talk about and have the solution oh it's
all
yes I don't
it was funny kind of me
one that one lady came to practice menta
one night that's are a few weeks later
and she said are you teaching magic
so well
if what I'm teaching you helps you to
have an uplifted mind so you don't have
so much suffering and I guess that I do
to come she'd never come she was deathly
afraid because the Christians of
well that's sort of a lot less magic
cure them there is with laying on of
hands yeah they do their one okay so you
know they don't they don't call it no
it's the alignment of thought yeah the
power of the alignment is thought me to
gathering together of energy great
sure Samaritan 3 and the pair struck
carelessly their games and all grief
Oh
misty
